Energy

As those TV ads are always saying, "A fragile and flourishing planet? Priceless".
Posted by Wes on August 9, 2007 04:27 PMAny bets that Mr. Lipton is one of those Republicans who looks at every resource on the earth with dollar signs in his eyes? Greed is good eh Mr. Lipton? If you are so concerned about throwing away money then why do you give the war profiteers a blank check to ruin Iraq and our economy? Bring the occupation to an honorable conclusion and we will have hundreds of billions of dollars a year to spend on alternative energy development so we don't need the trivial amount of gas that sits under one of Colorado's scenic areas. Oh wait we can't touch the war profiteers because they are Republicans. Typical Republican hatred for our environment and greed for the military/industrial complex.
Posted by Wes on August 9, 2007 04:34 PMGet a life, Wes. Your heart is bleeding all over your sleeve. While I realize that economic realities don't mean anything to you since you favor using (or, in this case denying) other people's money, some people do worry about local, state and national economic interests -- and they don't even support Bush or his overseas folly.
You ought to hook up the dude who calls himself truth. You two could sing a duet of Kumbaya.
Posted by on August 9, 2007 07:50 PMShow me the math that brings in a billion dollars. Its a pie in the sky figure that you are merely parroting from COGA. SHow me the math. C'mon. Pony up.
Posted by Oliver on August 10, 2007 06:54 AMThat religious experience of his could also play a role of costing you $5 at the pump and a lot worse. As long as natural gas supplies are are constrained, the difference has to be made up by alternatives. And for every barrel of crude that is then needed to supply power plants producing electrical power, that means that much less gasoline available for the pump and higher gasoline prices for America. Since nukes have been out of bounds for some 30 years and our coal is not being exploited to its fullest (we import some coal for power plants), keeping any energy supplies from moonscapes like the Roan and Vermillion out of bounds means higher prices. That also means HIGHER INFLATION, HIGHER INTEREST RATES, HIGHER COST OF CORPORATE CAPITAL, LESS BUSINESS EXPANSION, FEWER NEW JOBS, REDUCED INCOMES & LOWER GDP! AMERICA BECOMES LESS COMPETITIVE IN GLOBAL ECONOMIES.
Have a nice harmonic convergence and go save some drowning polar bears, it might make some folks feel better.
Posted by Hank on August 10, 2007 07:47 AMIf aircraft carriers can be safely and dependably powered for years by nuclear engines, why can't we build nuclear power plants that are just as safe? Are government contractors more worried about profits than safety? Oh never mind, that was a stupid question.
Posted by Jay on August 10, 2007 08:18 AMJay,
The reason that we can't build nukes is the environmental folks. They can't dispute that nuclear is clean and safe. What they can do is delay a project for years, doubling or tirpling the price as to make it uneconomical. Why should any money grubbing utility invest money even looking into a new nuke when they know the tree hugger crowd can use delay after delay to kill it? The tree huggers don't get a say (yet) in the nuclear aircraft business. These same wonderful folks have now targetted coal our most abundant and cheapest fuel source.
Posted by on August 10, 2007 09:05 AM9:05, you took the words out of my mouth. At least some folks out there understand.

Nice to ask for 'facts' Oliver but don't expect the lying Republicans to produce any. Making wild claims without any proof is their specialty.
I live in Gilpin County and we were told that the casinos would be nice little mom and pop operations to save the historic structures. You can see for yourself what happened to that concept. Greed has a way of ruining everything it touches. Don't believe for a moment that the piddly amount of gas that they get from this area will be done in a way that will preserve the land. All the lying Republicans can wail about is how much money they are losing by not drilling under every rock in the state.
If you liars don't like the way the state is being run move back to New Jersey. You'll be more comfortable in a someplace that is already a pit.
Posted by Wes on August 10, 2007 09:30 AMThanks Jay.
Some us us do get it but we are few and far between. Now I just have to sit back and wait for some tree hugger to completely discredit by 9:05 post because I forgot to type "carrier" after "aircraft". That is the typical rock solid logical type of response that one can expect in this forum.
Democrats new song.
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting your money ,babe

Gosh 9:33 those "tree huggers" are just such unreasonable people wanting to have a breathable planet to pass onto their children. Ask a fat butted Republican who the enemy is and they will finger those "tree huggers' every time and they are right. Tree huggers are the enemy of fat butted gluttonous Republicans who hate the earth and think of it only in terms of how much they are "get" for their unsustainable lifestyles. Ask a Republican to give up ATV's and 15 miles per gallon gas guzzlers and they will shriek with terror. There will never be any peace between gluttonous Republicans and those who cherish a living earth.
Posted by Wes on August 10, 2007 03:44 PMGosh, Wes, what a one-sided view of the world. We're going to cherish a living earth right back to the cave. How's it going to work when we have a total energy shortage, 'cause we're only allowed solar and wind with too many people competing for what little output there is?
