Fie on political parties
Monday, August 6 at 12:01 AM

Over the years, I have discounted my efforts to support only candidates who would strongly support the Constitution and their oath to defend it against all enemies, exchanging it for a political party’s pledge to represent my personal convictions.
I will no longer be a good Democrat or a good Republican; in the future I will be a very good American and vote for the candidate who will run as an independent. They seem to be dedicated to upholding our Constitution and not some special-interest lobby. I’ve had enough of the party illusion game.

John Thurman, Denver

READER COMMENTS

Too bad, so sad. Mitt, Rudy, Thompsons, Tancredo, Huckabee, etc., are all draft-dodgers. When America called them to serve, they placed her on ignore, and cut and ran for their NAM sanctuary (momma's coat-tails).

John if there were only 100 million more of you and I ,maybe we could make a difference in this country. Vote the person-not the party.

it would be interesting to read your service record. Why don't you post it? I'll bet you have a good conduct medal. Do you need bennies because you stubbed your toe when loaded while you were trying to frag your Sarge?

John strikes me as one of those previous Republicans who realizes what creeps the Republicans have revealed themselves to be but can't accept Democrats as a plausible alternative.

He does have a point to vote for the individual instead of the party but he also could be one of those desperate Republicans who knows people aren't going to vote Republican next time so he is trying to plant the seeds of not voting for Democrats. The reality is that the Republican dream of destroying government and replacing it with corporate CEO nobility is dead. With Iraq, Katrina and now the Minneapolis bridge disaster as vivid examples of government gone wrong the nation understands we need responsible government not absent government. The Democratic Party might not be a perfect alternative but it believes in good government and it works diligently to find and support candidates who reflect that perspective. When you look at the credentials and qualifications of the candidates take an unbiased look at the Democrats. They just might surprise you.

All that the liberal Democrats want is a socialist country and some of them even admit it. I am not a Republican either and I totally agree with Mr. Thurman. I will vote the person not the party. At this point I am going to support who ever will protect our borders the most or we won't have a country.

(_) Republican

(_) Democratic

(X) Educated

Holds true whether your educated opinion results in selecting an independent, Republican or Democrat. Any candidate holding to a party line is holding on to the status quo of ineffective government in favor special interests and maintaining power.

Vote for for candidates who offer a glimmer of change -- change to the betterment of the country as a whole.

Chimpy: According to Bush the Constitution is just a "goddamn piece of paper" which is correct. When it favors Bush it becomes the Organic Law of our Nation and the concrete that keeps 50 states and territories together. The Supremes, and now the Catholic cabal known as the Vatican five tell us what the Constitution says. Pursuant to common sense, the Supreme's bias and prejudice, bombs the Wall that separates America's Siamese twins Church and State. The Wall has suffered terrorist conduct as in NYC twin towers to grant W. Bush his quest to convert his secular office into the turf of Jesus Christ, a Jew transmogrified into a Christian God with enormous feet whom women submit and men find pleasure as in John 13 where JC is busted by Judas with a man on his "breast," with a "sop" handed to Judas to placate him.

As for the letter writer: Too many parites is bad policy for any nation. Italy has many parties and many a-coup. A 2-party system provides cohesion because of the threat of losing power as evidenced today by the blunders of the party in power. As an independent I'll vote for (bring home the troops) Ron Paul Republican and for Congress Democratic; I'll ignore 3rd party candidates as being equally human and as corrupt as the next guy.

Oh, my God! I find it almost incomprehensible that I'm on the same page as our Reverend RG:

"As an independent I'll vote for (bring home the troops) Ron Paul Republican and for Congress Democratic"

Just proves the power of the Lord is omnipresent in human affairs.

IT really doesnt matter who is put in office, ALL of them are corrupt idiots who self serve whoever pays the bills ( other then the american people )

the only way to fix it is revolution. but we all know we are all too lazy and stupid to do that. so accept whatever direction our masters in washington give us.

John, and Americans everywhere,
Please don't give up on our Constitutional Republic.
The only way it can work is when We the People participate. Otherwise, if you don't vote, other people will make the important decisions about the United States of America, our children and their future.
While it's true that republicans since Reagan have (literally) preached that government is bad, most educated Americans have understood that it has been the goal of the neo-cons to have Americans believe that Democrats are out to eat your babies, steal your paycheck , and allow welfare queens to move in next door and lower your property values by smokin' crack and throwin' watermelon rinds out the window to draw flies.

(republicans have never been shy about not-so-subtle racism, either).

The facts are what they are, and here's just a sampling......

* Reagan created a deficit larger than all Presidents since Washington combined, and was our first divorced President.

* G.H.W.Bush's "October surprise" was a deal to supply IRAN with advanced weaponry in exchange for holding U.S hostages till after the election ,ensuring that Jimmy Carter would lose, and the deal also included lots o' money. The money then went to Oliver North and his gang to buy arms to supply so-called Contras in Nicaragua,
(expressly against orders from Congress) that in turn were traded for massive amounts of cocaine, that (surprise!) started flooding the streets of our inner cities shortly after Reagan took, (and I DO mean took) office.
Perhaps you've heard of the IRAN-CONTRA scheme. Thet's it in a condensed form.

* Bush pardoned everyone involved .

Sound familiar?

* Then we had 8 years of peace and prosperity under William Jefferson Clinton.
PEACE...unless you count unfounded , unrelenting attacks by the republicans accusing Clinton of everything from real estate swindles and(ironically), drug dealing to murder.
None of which proved true.

They, (republicans) had to settle for busting him for getting a little unauthorized nookie.

* Now we have W......and the pattern of republican greed, corruption, and lies continue, with the added charge of treason as W bush flouts our laws, violates our Constitution and sends our GIs to their deaths as a means to enrich his war-for-profit friends.
To me and our Judicial system, that's about as un-American as you can get.

Treason, as we all know, is punishable by death.

I'm sorry this has been so long, but I hope it illustrates there IS a difference between Democrats and republicans.

Please reconsider, and vote Democratic.

O.K cons, bring it on.

Dmz sends forth a plea:

"John, and Americans everywhere,

Not proven true due to the "witnesses" meeting untimely and strange deaths never adequately explained. Just ask the widows of 5 Arkansas state troopers;, or, you might ask the widow of Vince Foster.

You see, John and Americans, everywhere, the difference is that Republicans are inept at covering their tracks in corruption -- the Democrats have their technique (untimely death) down pat.

John and Americans everywhere,
our nobody at 5:56 explains precisely what President Clinton had to endure for 8 years.
Wild and unfounded accusations without a shred of proof.
You learned your lesson well, 5:56 , no doubt at the knee of Rush the omnipotent
Or is that impotent? Or is that on your knees?
God bless the Democrats.

Posted by dmz on August 6, 2007 09:02 PM

God may, but nobody with a brain will trust either party to act in the best interest of the country..let alone bless either.

Democrats = Socialism no thank you!

Republicans = Exclusionary ties to big business

Democrats = Socialism

No thanks to both. How about;

Government = by the people and for the people, party allegiance be damned.
