Fix roads first, mayor
Denver’s popular mayor has made convincing citizens to vote for a package of new bonds his No. 1 priority before the November election.
I think fixing the potholes around town would be advisable before he asks property owners for a tax increase. Alameda Avenue from Cherry Creek Drive to Lincoln is a good place to start. And Federal Boulevard from Evans to Florida avenues is a travesty.
Joe Gallegos, Denver
When was the last time the city upheld thier end of an agreement. They want a tax increase to help support thier sanctuary city status. With the threat of Federal funds being possibly withheld they want people to give them more money to support thier illegal support of illegals.
Its all fine and dandy to suggest that the city fix the pot holes or do something responsible with this tax increase but the reality is not so.

Welcome to "Hicksville".
hey the hick is fixing the roads for all of his illigal buddies. they are starting to look like mexicos
Posted by on August 24, 2007 10:12 AMWell, I don't know what you all are whining about...streets in my central Denver neighborhood have been closed and rerouted for weeks while they are torn up and repaved.
There are only so many crews to go around and I'm sure that some CDOT or city committee designated which roads and streets needed to be done in what order. It's not like Hickenlooper is deciding every minute detail himself.
Get off his back. He's a great mayor. I'd like to see any of you do a better job. But my guess is that your expertise lies more in bitching and complaining about what other people do than what you can do yourselves.
Posted by Thomas on August 24, 2007 10:14 AMas long as not one dime goes to aid illegals I am good with the tax increase. but something in me doubts that to be the case, so unfotunately I am NOT ok with the increase
Posted by Fresh on August 24, 2007 11:15 AMDo you really think the money WON’T go into the pockets illegals raising anchor babies in Denver? Why do you think the state begged the people to pass referendums C and D? Be happy that D didn’t pass approval too. The $500 million the state was to receive over five years is a piss in the bucket compared to what the illegals suck out of the state every year. But hey…the intelligent voters of Colorado approved C – so I’m guessing they’ll also approve any tax increases Hick wants.
How soon we forget that Hickenlooper was co-owner of the Cherry Cricket when one of his illegal employees murdered an off duty police officer. The restaurant had been notified months before the murder that the Gomez’s social security number wasn’t valid. And reports after the murder say the documents Gomez provided were “obvious fakes.” Gee, Hick and his partners were never fined or punished in any way for employing illegals.
Once the feds hold out funding for this sanctuary city – Denver just might crack down on illegals. And the money not spent on illegals will fill a lot of pot holes.
Centennial Mayor Pye's, "sidewalks to nowhere". Be careful when you make a wish. I live in the Piney Creek subdivision. Mayor Pye (in-the-sky), made a collosal blunder. For some strange reason, he decided to remove several sections of sideawalks and have them replaced. His excuse they were damaged duirng the recent blizzards by homeowners "shovels". Some of these sidewalks are less than 20 years old. This doesn't pass the smell test. I think he and Brannan, Inc. found a way to employ Brannan's (PORK) underemployed criminal illegal Mexican workers. As a taxpayer, I'm left looking at a major eyesore. The only wear and tear our sidewalks suffer is foot traffic from letter carriers. Its the BURBS man, folks don't walk anywhere.
My uncle bought a house (built in WWII) in Denver (26th and Leyden streets) 40 years ago, and none of his sidewalk sections have ever been replaced.
