Gangs
Denver is a sanctuary city, by official policy signed off on by Mayor Webb and Mayor Hickenlooper. Disrespect for the law spreads like an aggressive cancer. Bangers, especially juveniles, know that exactly zero happens to them when caught. Ergo, they run wild with impunity. Neighborhoods are under siege. Law abiding citizens in these areas need to arm themselves; the “Homeowner’s Protection Act” is still on the books (not “make my day", I wouldn’t want to kill anyone unless it’s him or me). The cops cannot protect you. They call the coroner and do the paperwork after you’ve been murdered.
Life is much cheaper than it’s been in a long time. Speaking of the “M” word, news outlets don’t use it. Someone is “Killed” as if he missed a curve on Berthoud Pass instead of being snuffed in cold blood like a Lucky butt by some heinous lowlife.
Why is life so cheap? We could ask the 40 million victims of abortion, but they never got the chance to be born. Lotta brains and talent down the drain there. From abortion it’s a fast leap to easily murdering after birth as well. Why is abortion not considered racist when most of its victims are black and Hispanic? Why is fatherhood no longer valued in our society, when Uncle Sugar will raise one’s brats (to become gang bangers) and 70% of black births are out of wedlock? 50 years ago, blacks had it much harder than they do now, but families stuck together and fathers raised their children. They raised men and women who could function as upright members of society rather than the dysfunction seen today.
Finally, why are guys like me, who dare ask these questions, considered to be wing nuts and loose cannons? Things are very much upside down today and as long as that holds we’ll see a lot of dead children and young adults.

Man, you're all over the board with your rant. May I suggest in the future you zero in on one topic and stick with it. You can't tie all the ills of modern society into one neat package and beat it into submission.

Pat Desrosiers has made some excellent points.
Could it be that you, 2:22 PM, see it as a rant but in reality it is from a person who is completely fed up with the way these thugs are handled today, how abortions are had with no more thought than brushing one's teeth, how men love the sex but abandon the outcome?
Your letter made perfect sense to me, Pat.

C - Have you had abortions that were no more than brushing your teeth? Do you know women who have such a cavalier attitude? (If you do, you should really think about getting some new friends.) Most women who have had an abortion will tell you that it was one of the most painful, gut-wrenching decisions they ever made.

I respect life far too much but have heard many conversations where women don't think that abortion is any big deal. Never said they were my friends, YOU did. Of course they know nothing about the pain until the abortion is done. Cavalier attitude? From the conversations I've heard, Yah.
Ten to one that Pat and his supporters on this thread don't even live in an inner city neighborhood.
I just moved from one, where I lived for close to four years. I never felt "under seige." Sure, I heard a few gunshots - occasionally. But nothing like the dire "Escape from New York" scenario Pat is painting here.
Anyway, I do not get the impression that Pat is really interested in a solution to the problems he says exist in the black community. I feel he was more interested in ranting from a place of sanctimonious invective, rather than authentic concern based on some modicum of compassion for his fellow man.

Crime is down 11% due to the Mexican exodus. But it dos not seam so because we just got a 11% increase of illegals due to the open border.
mytwosense. Tell me, did you ever find out if anyone was killed by those few shots you heard or was it no concern of yours due to your insistence on unimportance of it ? Did you try to find out who did it or the reasons why ? Did you care at all about the fact that shots in the distance could just a well have been shots directed at you by people who have absolutely no respect for their own or anyone elses life.
I don't know where you learned to be so apathetic and cavalier about others getting shot at as long as your not getting shot at. That attitude is closely related to the uncaring lowlifes, filled with false macho and the evil need to prove they are a man by killing someone, anyone, even if they miss their target and kill a kid or a baby who just happed to be in the line of fire. I suggest you go back there. We need people who care about gang violence here, not those who's apathy allows it's continuance of it.
Crime is down 11%.I don't trust that statistic.
The Denver Police and the D.A.'s task force along with Federal officials did arrest over 100 people and have warrants out for at least 100 more. It was all black gangs. "People of interest" were arrested in the round up and are being held for other charges pending evidence they were involved in the Williams shooting.
Now they have to go after the latino gangs with the same force. Why haven't they gone after the latino gangs?
Lock up a couple hundred latino gang members and then maybe I'll believe the " crime statistics"
Until then how can we believe the statistics when every night on the news there is a new murder of someone just standing around .
These murders and drive bys are not in the Hilltop area.They are in the black and latino neighborhoods and with the culture of " No Snitchin" being taught to little children on up,the police have their hands tied.
It just doesn't pass the smell test.

Relax, people...I'm not saying gang violence is no big deal. What I'm saying is that the letter-writer is wildly over-exaggerating by saying our city is "under seige."
I know, because I've lived in the very neighborhoods he thinks he's talking about. If you honestly think the occasional gunshot can be equated to a city under seige, you lead very sheltered lives!

Not so bad, then why did you move? For those of us that live in areas that have violence, every, I repeat every gunshot means something and that something is not good. That was lameass excuse to lessen tha calous remarks you made.
What specific comment did I make that was callous and imply life is "cheap"? My point is that the letter writer is erroneously calling Denver a "city under seige."
I think too many of you trying to infer something between the lines of what I said that is simply not there.
And I would guarantee most of you are rabidly against Hickenlooper and just looking to jump on any chance to vilify him - even if it means calling Denver a "sanctuary city" or "city under seige" and other such NONSENSE.

Now the majority are far from well maintained. Those that are are considered exuberant. 3rd world standards are just fine for Hinkenlooper. As long as it isn't next to his home.
