Globalization
Meanwhile, peasant soldiers are slogging away valiantly at the Mid-East mission. One month from the Petraeus Report, the President urges patience.
He (like us) allegedly waits to hear what the Generals have to say. Yet, Capitol Hill sources tell us the White House is actually writing the Report.
One might deduce, therefore, the President will not only know well before any of us what David Petraeus will “say,” but it also amounts to the General reading aloud what the policy writers have already approved. Visions of Colin Powell’s finest hour at the United Nations?
Somehow, I’m betting the surge will be dubbed a provisional success requiring more time to manifest its inherent wisdom. PROGRESS will be the buzzword (without a satisfying sense of what the word really means).
Critics will point to failed benchmarks and how we ignored the Iraq Study Group. Most of all, a haunting voice will rise from our subconscious
EGRESS from Iraq: that’s the heart-felt desire of 99% of Americans.
From Michael Moore to Bill O’Reilly (with all us reasonable people in between), everyone truly wants the war to end; excepting, of course, the visionary 1% who conned us into the mess. Again, they will have their way: no apologies, no timetable, no listening to what say the people of Iraq or America. Honestly, how comical is that?

Sad to Say This Duff, HOW TRUE YOU ARE!!

Posted by Rick Garrett on August 26, 2007 08:21 AMNow that we are finally fighting the war and winnig like we could have 5 years ago, the Surrendercrats want to cut-n-run. They are fully invested in an American defeat in Iraq and our recent success is croaking them.
There is panic in the DNC, the party of Benedict Arnold feels it slipping away! What is this unpatriotic crowd going to do with all those white flags that they planned to bring to Denver a year from now?

Posted by Terry on August 26, 2007 12:13 PMI submit that the Democrats aren't as concerned about winning or loosing the war in Iraq as much as they are worried that it will still be going on when, and if, they win the White House.
Regardless of which party has the title president, the puppet masters behind the ruling elite are not going to allow the president to deviate from the proscribed course of action. Both parties are beholden to the same special interests which control the purse strings of economic and influential power.
If popular public sentiment can't force the current puppets to withdraw from Iraq, the next White House regime is going to be stuck with justifying it's continuation of the war to an ever increasingly skeptical public. A Democratic president is going to be stuck in the same "justification" games as LBJ was in Vietnam.
I found the following unattributed post on another thread. I believe it fits on this thread better:

"George Orwell, call your office. You can add to your list of opposites ("war is peace," "ignorance is strength" and "freedom is slavery") a new one. It is the emerging plan of congressional Democrats, joined by at least one Democratic presidential candidate: "losing is winning." ...
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin ... says, "The military aspects of President Bush's new strategy in Iraq ... appear to have produced some credible and positive results." ...
[E]ven acknowledging progress on the ground is a far cry from a spokesperson for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who said recently that Democratic leaders are "not willing to concede there are positive things to point to" in Iraq. ...
U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., voted against authorization for Bush to invade Iraq. But he told the Olympian newspaper that he is convinced the military needs more time in the region and that a hasty pullout would produce chaos that could only help Iran and damage U.S. security.
Baird, too, recently returned from a visit to the region, including Iraq.
Even Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who can't afford to be on the wrong side of victory no matter how far away it might seem, acknowledges the troop surge is producing results. So does Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin. ...
Yes, says Clinton, the surge is "working," but according to her, it is coming "too late" and so it's time to bring the troops home. If one suffers from terminal cancer and a last-ditch effort is made with experimental drugs to save the patient's life, would a responsible physician give up and declare the situation hopeless, even as the drugs show progress fighting the disease?
All of Iraq's political leaders are not on vacation. The Bush administration says Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other members of the elected government are negotiating a political settlement that would be acceptable to all sides. ...
Democrats at last appear to have a war strategy. It is to snatch victory from the jaws of victory, even after claiming lack of progress and forecasting defeat for at least the last three years. ..."

The quantification of positions are already beginning. The waffling and justification is just going to intensify on both sides of the two party aisle the closer we get to election and we're still bogged down in the Iraqi quagmire.
You have members of the Democratic Party modifying their stance allowing for the hope that it can be justified and won, with their guarded support. And, your have members of the Republican Party with eroding support of the president allowing for them to publicly claim they were against the war. Both sides are playing to public opinion and either election or re election strategies. Very few on either side have stood their ground and fought for their original position throughout the last few years.

Apply your "Trinity of Thought" to your suggestion. Too little, too late...he'll be gone before you can accomplish anything and we're still left with the stink and piles of sh** left behind to clean up. Start seeking the best cleanup crew possible, regardless of party affiliation.
Don't waste the time or money rattling impeachment sabers; spent the same valuable resources getting the government back on the right course -- it'll make cleanup a little easier.
Posted by darfor on August 26, 2007 05:00 PMDarfor,
I agree with you however as you can see by many of the posts here the division is so deep how will that be accomplished? the politics involved, the name calling, the claiming of victory or blame by one side or the other for political party gain.
Posted by Mike D. on August 26, 2007 05:20 PMlittle mikey,Bush has but the dems. did every thing in there power to support the enemy against myself and even you .Find out the facts first.

The Dem's had no power, Bush has had all the money he has wanted, all the slodiers, all the equipment, and now all the time. The Dem's stopped nothing.... These are the facts..........
Posted by Mike D. on August 26, 2007 05:33 PMMike D.
You ask, "...how will that be accomplished?"
That's a damn good question to be sure. However, as we can see around us all of the name calling, finger pointing and chastising of each other is getting us nothing but more of the same crap.
Instead of "fiddling while Rome burns", perhaps we should start holding elected politicians of both parties accountable for actual accomplishments in lieu of promised improvement. To reward a politician with re election just because of party tag is counterproductive. If all politicians were afraid of losing their cushy positions due to ineffectiveness they may start finding a way to work together in finding solutions to our problems.
As they say, true insanity is repeating the same action over and over again while expecting a different outcome.
Posted by darfor on August 26, 2007 05:39 PMDarfor,
Well said, and I have stated many times that the only way to get anything accomplished or hold our elected officials accountable is for us to come together. Division is a way they stay in power, they have to keep us divided or they would be held accountable. Now I know many people of these United States would be on the other side of the issue if the President had a "D" in front of his or her name. They would be screaming about the soldiers killed, the cost of the war, invading a country with no ties to 9/11 etc. etc.. And also there would be those defending the President's actions because of the party affiliation. You are correct that we need independant critical thinking.

It almost seems that we've evolved to a new, but not necessarily improved nation motto...

Posted by darfor on August 26, 2007 06:29 PMmikey, the dems. used there liberal propanganda outlets to lie to the world and American people that we couldn't win the war. Thus giving the enemy the reason to keep fighting and killing our troops, making it easier to recruit more terrorist.Dem. congressman saying our troops are murderers, rapist and theives.Saying our troops were and are stupid. To say to them they are fighting for nothing incouraging desertion.Dems. treasonistly releasing classified legal operations that Bush is doing to protect every American and our soldiers. You have the two most incompetent, corrupt individuals running the two branches of congress lying by saying the surge is not working. Thus again getting comfort and support to the enemy. So mikey as usual you down know what you are talking about because you down spend the time to find out facts.
Posted by Keith on August 26, 2007 07:41 PMTalking about globalization, how about food and medicine on a global scale:
I can't figure this out. Why are we supposed to be afraid of getting medication from Canada because it could be tampered with but we get our fruits and vegetables from all over the world and they could be sprayed or injected with deadly chemicals by terrorists without any home land security x-ray machines or detectors knowing. Could this be Mr. Bush's buddies at the Drug Companies trying to keep fear in America. If the Canadians are using the drugs why shouldn't Americans? Just a thought.
Mike D...said, "Division is a way they stay in power, they have to keep us divided or they would be held accountable. "
Thank you, Mike! I've been sayng this for years about dozens of issues.
For example, it's very true about abortion. There are thousands of people in this country whose very livlihoods depend on abortion remaining a tug of war controversy.
Does anyone really believe that all the anti-abortion or pro-choice lobbyists in Washington are really working..to put themselves out of work?
Of course, all the ordinary people, the "foot soldiers" out there in the public realm fighting for whichever side of the issue they believe in are sincere.
But they're really just pawns in a complex war that will never have any real victors.
The same is true with so many political issues.
I am a liberal in many ways, but I am not a proud democrat. I do still register as one but I consider myself a liberal and vocal independent. I will support and prefer to vote for people who are not beholden to either party.
It's LONG past time that we ended the gridlock of partisanship by supporting politicians who have the courage and integrity to take a personal stand for change.
Keith,
Dissent and an oposing opinion do not lose wars, Bad planning, no exit stategy and using military as police is what loses war. Keith, you can settle down because we are never leaving Iraq we will have a fabulious new base there forever, the killing there will never stop. So don't get too worked up about it, no matter who the next Pres. is we are stuck there for a very long time. I know you are worried about your taxes going up to support some illegal or uninsured American for health care, don't worry about that either most of your tax dollars will go to support your favorite country Iraq. I myself would rather have us leave Iraq and bring our soldiers home as well as spend our tax dollars in the US helping out those less fortunate in the US, but I guess that makes me a US hating socialist coward.
Posted by Mike D. on August 26, 2007 11:33 PMThomas,
Very nice letter, I agree with you. I am a liberal but find myself very concerned about the Congress and their apprehension to act. I think your letter shows a major difference between Lib's and Con's as well as why the Congress approval rating is so low. Republic's will never show approval for a Democratic congress and the Democrats are very unhappy with them so far, thus the low approval rating. Where on the conservative side they stay loyal no matter what happens, they stay in lock step regardless of the outcome or circumstances. You won't find Republican Bush supporters on this blog voicing their dissapointments or disapproval of anything he has done. (I will admit there are exceptions but not often). I also don't see too many lib's consistently labeling someone who disagrees such as a US hater or Coward on every post. There are some people who will never be able to discuss or come to an agreement with someone they see more as an enemy than a fellow US citizen with whom they disagree..
Posted by Mike D. on August 26, 2007 11:47 PMmikey, your right about two things. Can't use our military as police and we will have a base there just like Germany,S. Korea and Japan. The dems. outcry to give military restrictions like our police doesn't work in the time of war. It's making more of our military easier targets to get killed.Trying to give citizen rights to terrorist in Gitmo is an another.

Posted by on August 27, 2007 10:11 AMKieth,
I couldn't have written a more clear explanation of why the Dems blew this war for us myself. I don't think anybody can.
I should note that your fragmented pidgin-english post was laughably bad, but I honestly don't think anybody could make the case better than you made it. Congrats, and keep fighting the good fight for all the other retards out there!
Oh, and Mike, I apologize for falling into the trap you laid out in your previous post ("There are some people who will never be able to discuss or come to an agreement with someone they see more as an enemy than a fellow US citizen with whom they disagree..
"). I hope this doesn't undercut your argument. All I mean by my post is that objectively speaking Kieth is a retard. I'm bound by the truth, here.
Amen brother!!
Posted by Mike D. on August 27, 2007 01:12 PMThomas, Mike D, darfur - Agree with you on the partisanship. Things have to change from this two party system for us to ever obtain the representation we need in this country. It's up to us voters to bring about the change. I'm hopeful in the next election that enough voters are tired of both sides and elect from fresh blood into office.
Thomas - This is the second time in two days I've agreed with you. Your post the other day on your beliefs was insightful.
Don't worry, I'm sure we'll go back to disagreeing in the near future but I won't be surprised if we agree again. Wonders never cease.
