Good riddance
Tuesday, August 14 at 12:01 AM

Glad my alma mater got rid of its “white Indian” (not politically correct, but neither was Ward Churchill). People can say that he was fired for what he said, but he was fired for plagiarism.
I have been a college instructor for 15 years, making half of what Churchill made. We have fired instructors and punished students who have plagiarized; why should Churchill think he is above the law?
Goodbye and good riddance.

Robert Plick, Denver

READER COMMENTS

One detects sour grapes in Mr. Plick's letter, because he made half or what Mr. Churchill made. If the gentleman had paid more attention to the entire episode, he would have noted that the animosity toward Ward Churchill began because every self-righteous idiot, including our former governor, editorial writers, and even letter writers began their campaign against him because of what he had "said", and not for plagiarism. One should never tolerate plagiarism nor should we be any more "understanding" of sloppy scholarship from anyone, including the "right wing" ideologues such as David Horowitz. Perhaps Mr. Pick needs to apply the standards he applies to Mr. Churchill across the board. If what we see in Mr. Pick's letter is a sample of the type of "thinking" that he picked up at CU is an example of its graduates, the school has had a problem for a long time.

Robert,

You seem to miss the point. It matters not how the cockroach brings himself to the attention of the homeowner. Once the homeowner is aware that he is a cockroach, he gets stepped on.

It wasnt the fact he brought attention to himself. It was for the fact, he was a cockroach.

Someone else used this analogy earlier. I liked it, so passing it on.

You're right, Robert.

Any other professor who is proven to be a plaigarist, cheat, and a liar should be fired, as well.

The media made him the celebrity he became which provided him with the publicity he craved. If this had not happened he would have not become the issue and the situation would have been taken care of in the due course of events and this lame soap opera whould not have become the joke it is.

Ricky Lee,

"Any other professor who is proven to be a plaigarist, cheat, and a liar should be fired, as well".

And close more than half of our universities? I don't think so! If we got rid of all of those professors we would eventually run out of politicians, lawyers and other professors. Wait a minute, maybe you are on to something
