Iraq, Bush and Cheney
Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 PM

Leon Rodriguez of Denver writes:

Lies about the war in Iraq, abuse of the system of checks and balances, approval of illegal spying and torture, signing statements that improperly arrogate legislative powers to the executive branch, schemes to punish political foes and refusal to cooperate with congressional inquires are judged as high crimes and demand the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.
If the crimes of Bush and Cheney go unpunished this corrupt administration will hand off instruments of power greater than any president has ever held—- more authority concentrated in fewer hands than the Founding Fathers of our great Nation could have conceived or would have allowed.
Should Bush/Cheney leave the presidency without limit, accountability or punishment (impeachment) they will have forever changed our country for the worse.

Wow, so many mis-statements all in one place. Sorry, but the "Facts" you have stated are not facts, just your mindless babble and your wishful thinking.

Oddly enough, I could not find one sentence that was actually a fact. Nice try though. It is refreshing to see all those bumper stickers in one place.

Dravur,

I have said this before and it will probably continue: People who send in letters to the editor just do not log onto this blog to check for comments. Or, if they do they certainly don't give any further replies. That is unfortunate because it would be nice to give them a piece of my mind or ask for clarification, but I might as well be talking to the wind.

The letter writer certainly has his entire intellectually dishonest, Bush-bashing, angry liberal talking points down.

Posted by Mountain Cat on August 2, 2007 03:57 PM

It's disgusting that there are still people who defend Bush Inc. after the last 7 years.

Why do you hate America so much? Why do you hate Democracy? So much blood has been shed to build this great country, and Republicans want to undo everything that we've achieved.

Reagan said: "Government is the problem." Reagan was a B movie actor posing as a Great President, and gullible people bought it. Government is not the problem. cynical, misanthropic Republicanism is the problem.

Government's purpose is to protect ordinary citizens from people like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, and in this, government has failed. Republican meddling has damaged our infrastructure, food safety inspections, and education.

Republicans like to play with words, parrot snide, cute absurdities of slime like Rush Limbaugh, and play tit for tat. They fail to realize that there are real issues at stake here, that it's not all just a partisan football game to service Paris Hilton's tax cuts and the Cigarette / Pharmaceutical / Oil Corporations.

Bush's incompetence and dishonesty have brought the U.S.A. to a disasterous place, and these dessicated cynics still defend him. Do you think that all of the Repubs that have finally come to their senses and seen through the lies are all "Liberal Terrorist Lovers"?

These are serious issues, and before you fire off your patented jargon again, think about it. Don't continue to spit on the graves of this great Nation's founders and all of those who fought in legitimate wars to protect our way of life. Stop desecrating the flag, and stop defecating on the Constitution.

Bush is a disgrace. Stop defending him.

Let's have some perspective people. When Andrew Jackson deported the Indians in the southeast to Oklahoma, the Cherokee nations split. Half went to Oklahoma, half filed a lawsuit against the government. When the supreme court ruled in the Cherokee's favor, Jackson ignored the court and had the army deport the remaining Cherokees in the middle of the night. The majority of Cherokee owned slaves died on the trip, as no time was allowed to pack provisions. This became known as the 'trail of tears' though most the tears were shed by Africans, not Indians.

We have survived corrupt leaders who abused power before. We will survive this one.

Leon Rodriguez is trying to help the terrorists win the war when he writes that Bush"lied about the war in Iraq".I am sure he is a Democrat but I can't tell if he is in the US hating or coward wing of the Democrat party. He could be in the "useful idiot" wing. Something we have not explored yet but Drew , Sharon or any Democrat may be able to give us examples of this phenomenon.

Posted by An American on August 3, 2007 11:43 AM

Charles B,

I have tried explaning some of these issues to you and others before (lies about the war in Iraq, approval of illegal spying and torture, schemes to punish political foes, etc.) numerous times. But it never matters, because you and your ilk will not listen, but will just hate anything I would say.

The so called “illegal spying” is not illegal at all. The Bush administration simply started using the very same techniques of studying phone calling patterns (not wiretapping) that has been used against criminals for decades. It’s nothing new. But to some since they never heard about it and since it’s Bush who implemented this against terrorism, it’s to be hated and deemed illegal.

Then there is the topic of torture. Numerous groups such as the Red Cross, Amnesty International and others have been foaming at the mouth hoping to catch us committing torture. And our media would be more than happy to report about it. Can you post some solid evidence that proves we are using torture? Not something from the Daily Kos or moveon.org or The Nation. I mean evidence from a credible source.

It’s interesting how quickly the left in this country decided that we are the bad guys involved in this war against terror and that those who would slit their throats or cut off their hands or stone them to death if they don’t follow their laws are to be treated like little kittens.

Schemes to punish political foes? Leon was probably trying to refer to the Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame/ Scooter Libby issue in which the left thinks the Bush administration got revenge on Wilson for disagreeing with their policy on Iraq. If you go to the link below and become a member of 850KOA radio (it’s free and painless so don’t be afraid) you can download an interview between Mike Rosen and Robert Novak. In short Novak is the one who got the controversy started when he asked a completely innocent question of Richard Armitage and Armitage gave a frank and seemingly innocent answer which stated that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA and that her name is Valarie. If you really want to know the truth about the Scooter Libby issue check it out. Otherwise, you are just blabbing about an issue you are misinformed about.

'An American ' defense of Bush is meaningles, I guess the 70% of us who oppose Bush and the war are not Americans? I am sure 'An American' in colonioal times would have been 'An Englishman' calling Washington, Jeferson and Franklin traitors fro speaking out against their king. Well, that American Flag belongs to the 70% of us who oppose this damn war too!

Posted by Also An American on August 3, 2007 12:02 PM

Get Real - They already are trying to blame this on the Reps and Bush.

"I am waiting for a national figure with the balls to call these warning signs what they are: Republican disdain for and neglect of government oversight, venality, insensitivity to human suffering, tax breaks for rich folks, blatant government incompetence, dirty politics, and bleeding our resources in an immoral f***ing war." -by cas2 on Wed Aug 01

Attaching this to Bush and the Reps is nothing but pure hatred and flies in the face of logic.

But that's what one should expect from the posters at the daily kos

I'll stand on what Ive said. One huge difference between Dems and republicans, regardless of how ridiculous or dumb rightwing ideas are we listen and criticize them, but never question your patriotism, we dont call you traitors. Republicans however thrive on attacking anyone who opposes them, they play the patriotism card, anyone with a differing thought is obviously a traitor and someone who hates America. Try opening your simple little mind even for just a brief moment.

Yep= blowhardbillowlielly named the freepers as a hate site and was almost immediately named in a fatwa by the intellectual luminaries that inhabit that swamp. But he'd already started the crusade to "destroy" dailykos and his reliable flock of parrots have picked up the call so we'll hear it ad nauseum until the blowhard gives it up as the lost cause it is, sorta like his boycott France campaign.I'm surprised he singled out the freepers and left unmentioned such places as politico( drudge's butt boys), redstate, captain's loose change,or little green furballs. On the other hand I also wonder why he singled out Kos and not Americablog, talking points memo, Lawyers, Guns, and Money or any number of other sites I'm sure he'd have no problem characterizing as "hate" sites.
In general I'm mildly amused that the word "hate" seldom comes up until some poor wingnut bereft of any other defense for their demigod and his crew of incompetent cronies has to inject it as cover for their lack of any real criticism, analysis, or countervailing ideas-or even any ideas in general.

Leon: John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Murtha, and other democrats voted for this action in Iraq. But now that CNN interviews terrorists and shows terrorists killing our own soldiers (treason in itself) these same dems want us to run away and hide, leaving Iraq to the terrorists. Do you really think the terrorists will just drop their bombs if we pull our troops out?

This country was founded with patriots not cowards like you and the other liberals like Charles B.

I’ve always been one to give credit where credit is due. And I certainly believe that due credit should be extended to those who are most representative of the true and genuine positions, spirit, and thought, voice, and expression, of the Republican Party and this Republican Administration. Certainly, this forum has presented us with several outstanding examples; and it is time to recognize their presence, as well as their contributions to the exposition of Republicanism/conservatism.

The first of these is the poster presently known as, “bart” – whatever his previous screen name. The old saying: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, is applicable here. And here the imitation/flattery is almost uncanny in its exemplification. One might even say that “bart” is the perfect representative of this Republican Administration on the forum today. His postings are such exact imitations of the voice, tone, and content of the Great Decider himself – even to the use of the Great Decider’s favorite catch phrases, such as, “child left behind” – as to place “bart” at the pinnacle of those who best represent “conservatism”, and the Republicans today.

Next, we have, “AnAmerican”, who certainly speaks with the almost psychic – might one even say, “psychotic”? – imitation/flattery of the White House Chief of Staff, and his henchmen surrounding the Great Decider. The presentation of the current Republican Administration’s attitude towards any, and all, who dissent from the position that, “War is Wonderful, and Shooting People is Fun” – the heart and soul of the Republican Party’s position on Iraq – is certainly done by “AnAmerican” in an outstanding and exemplary way.

On occasion, these two principal Republican Party voices are accompanied by certain “anonymous” posters, who echo the thoughts and presentations of the masters mentioned above. Since these are too timid to offer themselves for commendation, it can only be noted here how faithfully they follow the lead given them by “bart” and “AnAmerican”; and how timely their appearance in conjunction with their leaders always is.

For those who do not recognize the almost perfect congruity of “bart” and “AnAmerican” with anything and everything currently illustrative of the Republican Party and this Administration, we might mention those others who faithfully and diligently strive to cheer on the cause – and work to obfuscate every discussion that might present a viable and workable alternative to those current situations so presently bogged down in “conservative” quagmires of leaderless reactionary regression, typical of this Administration’s dedication to foreign wars over domestic tranquility – and who also represent the Republican positions in an outstanding way.

The poster (____) – feel free to fill in the blank – comes to mind here. While never offering the slightest consideration to any idea of alternatives, this poster fills posting after posting with endless repetitions of the already discredited “talking points” of the Republican Party’s TV and radio entertainers; and asks repeated questions – generally answered, and documented several times already – of anyone attempting to provide intelligent discussion of an idea. Ultimately, this becomes nothing more than a personality war – or a “pissing contest” – which degenerates into wasting everyone’s time while also ending any real attention to the topic itself, a tactic which is itself perfectly typical of the Republican attitude towards the ideas of dissent, or discussion.

One must, of course, mention the “Intellectual Pretender”, (_____) – again, feel free to fill in the name of your choice. Although this is more a matter of delusional devotion to the most fantastic of propositions as being necessary to government, law, and life today, nevertheless, it is illustrative of a distinct part of the Republican Party core as well. This is the core of the religious “fundamentalist” claque, which dominates the Republican Party’s approach to domestic issues in many ways today. On any of this poster’s favorite delusions, he will dissertate extensively, and with the most presumptuous pretensions to erudition. This distinguishes him as being one of the Republican Party’s “intellectuals”, a group rather more noticeable for their absence than for anything else.

But this form of mere obscurantist nonsense is very secondary to the outstanding Republican Party and Administration representations, and expressions, of its top two posters at this forum, “bart” and “AnAmerican”, who stand as the epitome of that to which all the rest aspire. Between them you have the total sum and substance of the Republican Party, this Administration, and “conservatives”, summed up in just a few lines per posting.

Old Grouch is in the coward wing of the Democrat party. He says that "we think war is fun and we love shooting people".What he shows is that he will not fight for anything and makes up excuses to stop our brave soldiers from fighting for our freedom. He is the worst kind of coward because he is aiding the enemy and getting our soldiers killed.

One might want to add here the name of (_____) - fill in your choice - who fervently promotes the cause of that insane delusionary, Tom Tancredo; who wants to engulf the whole world in a war that would destroy all civilization, by bombing, and destroying, the Islamic Holy Cities, Mecca and Medina.

Tancredo calls this insane folly, "deterance"; and suggests that it would "protect" us from terrorism. Well . . . yes . . . in a way it would, I suppose. When the world has been reduced to ashes and rubble, with the bulk of humanity dead in consequence, the idea of further "terrorism" would be meaningless.

But, that's a hallmark of Republicanism/conseratism: a return to the old concept of the "Pax Romanum", the Peace of the Graveyard, after a good show of how "War is Wonderful, and Shooting - and Bombing - People is Fun." (As long as someone else is flying the planes, and using the weapons, that is. As we learn from the examples given us by this Administration's records of "service" in Viet Nam, by way of example. Sort of like "the little man who wasn't there".)

Is this guy "An American' for real? Or a comedian?I cant stop laughing at his comments? Or maybe he has gotten into Rush's dope stash? Hey buddy, quit 'pulling on your rope' and trying using your other head ( not the littleone) for a change.

Laughing,

He's "for real" all right. Indeed, he's one of the outstanding spokesmen for anything and everything Republican/conservative today. One might even say he represents the mind, heart, and whatever passes for a "soul" of Republicanism/conservatism today.

Joined by someone who seems to have resurfaced - and whose name when written causes the posting to be "held for approval" - you have the Republican/conservative "final word", on anything and everything, for any and all topics and ideas.

Reminds one of an old cliche: "Assinus assinum fricavit, et ecce . . . !

And, it's what makes the forum so much fun.

Good point Bart.Spoken like a True American.Once again look at the postings of the liberal Democrats above.Any normal person could see they are madder than they should be. That is because they know what I am saying is true.Try to think of one issue that the Democrats support that shows any courage. They say that I am way off base but look at the words they use to describe me.When I say they are cowards and US haters I am just using words that describe what they are.Their anger shows that I have hit on target.I, you notice, am very calm and not angry.Someone had to show these Democrats for what they are it had to be me.They are US haters and cowards.
