New laws
Tuesday, August 14 at 12:57 PM

Aleksander K. Aloel of Littleton writes:

Now that the Colorado government is run by a left-wing Democratic majority, one can expect new, disturbing laws. Laws without common-sense, morality and none patriotic. Like HB 1330, which allows homosexuals to adopt children. (An innocent child’s future? Who cares?) Or SB 25 which prevents employers from hiring, firing or promoting who they like. (Something like under communist). HB 1050, it removes the offence of “breach of peace” from state law when a foreign flag is displayed. (downgrading our flag, no buts about it). HB 1073, allows state contractors to check legal status of new hires only. (The other 20 million or more illegals are free to multiply). HB 1196, maybe makes sense. It allows smoking in designated areas in nursing and assisted living facilities. (When one has smoked 60 to 90 years, he or she can survive and enjoy another puff).

READER COMMENTS

Which one of those laws is disturbing exactly? A child with homosexual parents is far better off than a child with no parents... so as far as an innocent child's future, clearly the Colorado government cares. Not allowing discrimination based on sexual orientation (SB25) is a good thing... employers can hire and fire whoever they want still, they just cannot base it on sexual orientation. Or would you prefer to return to the times when one could not be hired based on race, religion, gender, etc?

I'm not sure how foreign flags for educational purposes downgrade the American flag. That is one of the silliest arguments I have ever heard.

1073 is really the only one that makes sense to argue against, depending on your views on immigration. The other laws are common sense and should have been enacted long ago. Why is it "disturbing" to allow for equal opportunity? Why is it "disturbing" to give children better lives? The only thing disturbing is your letter.

And let's make sure that the liberal Democrats don't split and proportion the state's electoral college vote based on the popular vote. If that happens, and they are pushing in that direction, then we could enjoy no more presidential selection influence than does Wyoming.

Anybody know what the status is of that proposed liberal/environut "sheets per wipe" legislation? Don't laugh, the 3-minute egg timer has been turned over on that one too.

Aleksander K. Aloel:

You are reaping what you have sowed by hopping into bed with George Bush, whose as guided by Karl Rove has been disastrous for your party and our country.

Too bad for you loser.

We don't have to worry about specific laws and legislation coming out of a Democrat controlled state legislature and executive branch. We have to worry about our esteemed elected officials having "spiritual" movements (or was that bowel movements) resulting in decisions being made.

And good old Salazar can't do anything on is own. He needs the power players like Bush or Kennedy pointing his course in Washington.

This colorado state legislature is weak on illegals. We need to find new congresspersons in 08. Recall Salazar.

I agree, the left is doing exactly what they claim the "right" is doing. We voted not to allow gay marraige, yet some idiot legislatures allow gay adoption. The claim that the child does better with gay parents than none is a fat lie. The children suffer in school, don't know how to socialize and it's flat wrong to impose their selfish sexual fetishes on the innocent. The left liberal government is about controlling societies beliefs and ultimately everything you do. They the left are true evil cloaked in a shroud of decency. They are cowards, have no backbone and hide behind victims to push their true agenda...a communist fascist state. I have news for you lefties, men and women are different and were made to be the union that results in a family, The earth is self healing and global warming is a joke, the war is a necessary war to prevent the spread of Islamic Terrorism, illegal immigration is a problem and we are taxed to death as it is. We don't need you forcing your "intellectually elite" ideals into our society, the family has always been the basis for a strong healthy society, and the current trend of ALL democrat legislation is to mold our system to match that detailed by their gods..Karl Marx or Muhammad, or mother nature.

Hey t:
So you don't want "intellectual elite" ideas forced down your throat? Makes sense to me to listen to intellectuals over right wing Republican scare and divide tactics.

As far as I can see, the only bad thing I can see about having the Democrats in power is that now we have to listen to Republican whining. Perhaps therapy would help. If not, than maybe a few years in reeducation camps or a forced move to Texas would keep them from spreading their evil lies to impressionable children.

I guess I don't understand what is wrong with gay people being able to adopt. I know quite a few "straight" people that shouldn't be allowed to have children. Many of the homosexual people I know would make excellent parents. It is very small-minded to assume that a person's sexual preference would have any bearing on their ability to parent. I would imagine that the children might experiencing a bit more teasing in school, but that is not reason to prevent children from being placed in a loving home.

I do agree that the immigration status law is dumb. Enforce the laws! Do not only enforce the laws on new hires.

It sure does suck when your party is in the minority.
The Republicans have nobody else to blame for their dismal election performance than themselves. It is not that the Democrats are so appealing, it is because the Republicans are so repugnant. The Republicans can talk a good game but they have failed the ultimate political test, the ability to govern effectively when in power.
So keep on demonizing homosexuals, having a hissy fit whenever a foreign flag is displayed in a classroom and screeching about morality for those are the issues that are sure to loose votes.
The best Republican politician is the one who has been voted out of office.

The liberals are trying to take all the freedom from the people and give the government all the control of our lives. It is too bad that the Democrats won't see that until it is too late and the government will have total control like in Venezuela. France, Germany and much of Europe are starting to see the error of that and are now voting more conservative once again. But, of course the liberals in America are always right and love dictating what everbody else can and can't do. The only free people are the liberals because they love an entitlement society. Those of us (and I believe we are the majority) really need to start standing up to the likes of people who want the government telling us what is best for us when in reality it is only best for those in power like Chavez.

Politics is a pendulum.... One side goes too far and they are voted out of office. A few years pass and the whackos of the other party make stupid laws, and the pendulum swings back.

The dems will eventually get themselves voted out of office after the people in the state get tired of lib values like giving tax subsidized tuition to illegals, etc. They will see the Labor Unions taking over the control of the dems and soon it will be time to vote them out. When people see their taxes going up to provide housing to illegals and others while their own lifestyle drops, they will be voted out. Count on it.

Oh how the libertarian wing of the Republican Party were rolled over and beaten back by the Southern Conservative wing who are more than happy to use the power of the government to force their morals onto everyone else. Would you like to do some online poker? Too bad because the G.O.P. controlled Congress feels as though we are too immature to spend our money as we see fit. Would you like the right to end your own life if you are terminally ill? Too bad because the Republican controlled Congress feels as though that is suicide, which is a sin. Have you come down with a nasty disease and you want to smoke some pot to help alleviate the pain? Too bad, the G.O.P. has been fighting tooth and nail against medical marijuana.
The moral of the story is don't give me that bunk about Democrats wanting to control the lives of its citizens when the G.O.P. has been trying to socially engineer us since Regean was in office. I for one do not want to live like a Southern Baptist, I like having fun.

I for one want a government that keeps it's nose out of my butt, tries to help the poor, not just enrichen insurance companies, oil companies and the conservative elite CEO's and Haliburton like war profiteers. We need a government that tries to tackle the real issues that effect us, they might not succeed, as there are many on both sides that will do their best to disrupt the other sides legistration. Whether or not Bonnie and Kim live together and adopt a kid, or get ‘GASP’ married has no effect on my families well being. Being a good parent will have the desired effect on our kids a lot more then being scared of what someone looks like, talks like, what religion or not they are, or does in their bedroom will.

Being straight with a healthy family I am proud to teach my kids not to hate, that in fact to hate is morally wrong and sinful. I do not teach them to demonize anyone, not gays, not Muslims, not conservatives, not anyone. I do teach them the Osama Bin Ladens, Ann Coulters, Rush Limboggy, and any one else that teach or promote division or death are the real enemies of the American way, it matters not which way they lean.

Posted by Western Slope on August 15, 2007 02:42 PM

Something to think about here: if people are really born with their sexual orientation, how many gays are born each year, and is the number increasing?

Forget your prejudices for a moment and think of this. What percentage of the population is gay? What % is male and what is female?

Are more female gays being born or more male?

Is there something in the environment, say estrogen in our water systems, that effect unborn babies?

Fish and other aquatic life taken in rivers below municipal water discharge areas are being born with both, or no sexual characteristics.

Males are changed the most, with males unable to breed.

What if this is happening to men here, that they have been altered before birth. And women who are gay, might have been destined to become male but stayed female but were effected by hormones in the womb.

I would like someone with some ideas to answer. If you have heard of any research on this I would follow it up.

Please, uno, An American, Keith, etc stay out of this for once.

Your insane political rhetoric aside, clearly even someone as bright as yourself understands that marriage and adoption are not the same thing. Also, there is no nonbiased study that shows that children in homosexual households are worse off than those in heterosexual households, and are often better off. Not only are they more understanding, homosexual couples tend to have above average incomes.

Kyle

You are disingenuous when say; "...there is no nonbiased study that shows that children in homosexual households are worse off than those in heterosexual households, and are often better off..."

The truth is that there are no non-biased studies emanating from any source either pro or con this topic. All studies published are coming from advocates, not neutral parties.

And? Surely that means that being against it without any proof that it is in any way harmful is a poor choice, especially when there ARE studies that clearly show the negative effects of growing up without any sort of family. The anti gay adoption position is one of bigotry and "traditional/religious values" (whatever that even means) and is not a rational position.

Posted by Kyle on August 15, 2007 09:48 PM

Amen, funny stuff. But I seriously wonder if maleness, in all of nature, may be suffering from environmental pollution.

I can not imagine how awful a world without men, or with only weak sickly men, would be.

And we wouldn`t last long as a species without them, true?

So, who out there has heard of this problem.
