No blow-up, please
Interesting picture on Page 3 of the Aug. 1 Rocky Mountain News Business section (“DIA to deploy liquids scanner”).
It shows the hands of a Transportation Security Administration airport screener who has just confiscated a bottle of liquid from a passenger, because it could be an explosive. And what is he doing with this possibly explosive substance? He’s dumping it in the trash.
Did it occur to the Rocky photographer that if the screener’s suspicion was correct, both of them would very likely be dead? Or did they both take for granted that they’re taking part in a meaningless bit of political theater?

yep they sure do a good job. my last flight they took a tooth paste tube that was almost empty and said it was because of the size of the container and not the amount in it.
for fun I say the next time we fliy and have carry on stuff bring an empty bottle of water to see if they have a fit or just throw it away for you.
and all of this from the government that a lot of you want to run your health care.
First - we want illegals to follow the rules, but we don't want to follow them ourselves - from the size of the container of a liquid or gel we take onto a plane to following the posted speed limits (NO - I am not defending illegals, just saying we break the rules daily too). If you travel a lot, and have preferences for what you carry, stores like WalMart now have clearly labelled bottles that are 'legal size' and the same section has the quart sized zip backs to put them in.
Second, no - we don't want the government to run our healthcare - just to be a point of control for insurance. After all - government is non-profit. The insurance companies' whole job is to collect payments in & deny payments out whenever possible. Who would you rather have in charge of payouts?

Posted by Karen on August 10, 2007 07:03 AMAll of the measures for airport security are window dressing. The only thing that has changed since 911 is the amount of inconvenience experienced by airline travellers.

Posted by ML on August 10, 2007 08:30 AMAnyone who'd done even a minimum of research would realize how improbable the liquid explosives scenario was, is, and likely will be.The process requires too many steps, too many supplies to fabricate aboard the aircraft and can be detected if an attempt is made to smuggle them onboard. All in all more likely is the possibility that they're prime use is as an object of ongoing fear-mongering.
Posted by patrick on August 10, 2007 08:50 AMIt's all just to see how much indignity and BS you will endure to "make you safe", while behind the scenes, nobody is paying any attention to things being brought in with the employees. It's theatre, and a bad one at that.
Want to bring down a plane? Get an FA uniform.
