Hello Earth to Keith, Bush allowed the biggest attack on American soil in US history. I hate to inform you but Bush was Pres for 8 months prior to 9/11. He refused to look into the PDB regarding the possibility of terrorist attacks with air planes. Also, our economy is so good foreclosures are up 93% from last year.

Posted by Mike D. on August 23, 2007 01:51 AM

All of the gains in our economy in the last 4+ years are because we have BORROWED from everybody that would lend us. I can also increase my standard of living by going into debt using my credit cards. But as with credit cards as with our economy, you can only borrow for so long before the lenders will ask for their money back.

Also, did you know that the Dollar has LOST over 50% of it's purchasing power in the last 6 years in comparison to the Euro? Given that I travel extensively I can tell you that the standard of living has increased in Europe, whereas ours has decreased (I am a US citizen and that's why I am greatly concerned about the direction this country is taking).

Keith - Mike D. is right - a bipartisan (you know - GOP & Dems actually working together) commission research US security & attempted to present to Bush first in Mar 2001, then in May - at which point the presenters were told "Cheney would look into it".

And since so many of us are big on enforcement, I would like to point out that the weapons of choice the terrorists used to take over the planes (box cutters) were already banned in carry-on luggage. The airlines were responsible for inspecting carryons (my curling iron was regularly spotted & I had to prove what it was on several occasions - and at some airports pre 9/11 the metal in my barettes would set off the metal detector) - but somehow, 19 terrorists on 4 planes managed to walk onboard with them.

As far as Bush telling people the truth - which truth was it again that explains the preemptive attack on a country which had nothing to with 9/11 - while letting the mastermind of 9/11 (bin Laden) and the country that is STILL funding Islamic terrorism (Saudi Arabia, also home of 15 of the 19 terrorists) off scot free?

And aren't we PROUD of a country that chooses torture of prisoners along with spying on Americans who might make a call to someone they know in another country? I almost forgot Bush's most telling statement regarding the Constitution (despite having sworn twice to observe, protect & defend it) "It's just a goddamned piece of paper".

Can't wait to hear what you all will be thankful for under the dems, should we be unfortunate enough to have thier oh so great leadership. Higher taxes, sharia law, loss of rights (we are looseing more civil rights under dem leadership then ever before. All in the name of it is healthy i.e. smoking, fast food decisions, what we can or can't drive.)

More corruption in government that is never looked into. Blaming Bush and conservatives for years of corruoption in Louisianna and not carring for the dykes. Jefferson and his fridge full of money. Murtha accepting bribes from foriegn elements and governments. Boxer, Pelosi hireing of illegals and being anti union in thier private buisnesses. support of sanctuary and favoring illegals over citizens.

A rise in foreclosures by alowing corrupt buisnesses to scam people into baloon payments that are not afordable. (consumer beware). Yep can not wait to see how you spin this as a neocon fault. Weve been under democratic leadership for over a year and things are going downhill as congress and the senate pursue political payback. A rise in useless spending, and more welfare proposals for illegals all the while ignoreing citizens. Yeppers can not wait to see what to be thankful next.

Refuseall to protect this countries southern and northern boarder ... look at the votes on all the bills.

Oh boy can not wait. Ohg shoot what am I saying. The msm will have spun it into being a mas conspirocy theory like 9/11 blamming it as an inside job. More then likely William F. Buckley to be at the center of it.

Posted by on August 23, 2007 07:28 AM

Mary, really now. Come up with something original... We allowed Torture? I'm pretty sure we prosecuted those found in violation in Abu Ghraib. That is not "allowing" it.

The attack on Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. In fact, 9/11 never appears in any of the 21 resolutions. And the "spying program deals with calls that come in from OUTSIDE the country. Don'tcha feel better now?

Certainly, most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia... but the government there did not send them. Should we carpet bomb the state of Montana because the Unabomber was from there? I'd love to see the proof you seem to be hoarding that Saudi Arabia is sponsoring the terrorist..... still waiting....

The rise in foreclosures is due to the government? Can't the people ever be blamed for their own stupidity? I was offered a loan like that once.... I said no... see, it's easy. Why in the world do you blame the government for some people being stupid and buying a home they could not really afford.

And 40acres, you need to up the medicine dosage.

Posted by Dravur on August 23, 2007 07:38 AM

It shows how confused you are if you think the housing market has anything to do with what party is in power. The rise in foreclosures is due to people not paying their mortgage.

Thanks Mr Bush for not going after the terrorists and instead starting the Iraq War and losing another 3600 dead Americans because of your ego. Thanks Mr Bush for not raiosing taxes but borrowing so much that our kids and grad kids will pay even more ridiculous taxes to repay those loans (and being able to blame the Dems for raiosing taxes to pay them). Thanks Mr Bush for ignoring the poor in this country, ignoring socail programs in the US and yet dumping 4.5 billion into Wall Street ( guess the rich bankers werent rich enough).

The people who keep trying to paint our current economy as bleak sure do love to throw the foreclosure news out there at every possible turn.

What they fail to see is over the last several years, and because of the ease in obtaining a mortgage, total homeownership has increased dramatically.

While the total number of foreclosures is up, the percentage of all homeowners actually in forecloser is pretty much the same as it was 10 years ago.

Posted by KW on August 23, 2007 08:39 AM

Mike D. and Thankful,

As usual, liberals find fault but never give a solution.

How did Bush “allow” 9/11? What could he have done to prevent it?

Bill Clinton was in office for 38 days when the first attack on the World Trade Center happened. Would you also say that he “allowed” that attack to happen? Would you say that he didn’t listen to the presidential daily briefs of terror threats?

In fact, during the Clinton years Islamic terrorists attacked Americans or American interests ten times. In one very important incidence in the fall of 1998, Clinton drug his feet so long that a prime opportunity to catch or kill Osama bin Laden was lost. For the first hour of a two-hour window of opportunity Clinton would not even return phone calls from Sandy Berger. Bin Laden was in full view in our crosshairs and Clinton couldn't be bothered. Then when he finally got around to talking to Berger, Clinton wanted to “study” the situation and discuss the matter with his secretaries of state and defense rather than seize the opportunity that was place directly into his lap. Bin Laden got away and three years later we had 9/11.

The intelligence given to Bush pertaining to terror threats was sketchy at best. It almost always is, no matter who is the sitting president. How was Bush supposed to know just which date the terrorists were going to hijack planes and crash them into buildings? How was he supposed to know that it was going to be commercial airliners that would be used and not private airplanes? How was he supposed to know from which airports the planes would be departing?

I’m presuming, of course, that you two actually have answers to these questions.

What was Bush supposed to do; shut down the entire country? And for how long? Some people are outraged that we have certain security measures now AFTER 9/11. Think how people would’ve totally lost their corks had Bush implemented those measures before 9/11. You two would be right up there with the rest calling for his head, just as you are now.

You cannot have it both ways, no matter how hard you try.

And as someone already explained, foreclosures are the result of people not paying the mortgages they agreed to pay. How is that Bush’s fault? Oh yeah, I forgot. Every single thing that goes wrong is his fault.

Posted by Mountain Cat on August 23, 2007 08:39 AM

And before I forget, thanks for saving us in Florida from that global warming nut who is now living large by selling his company's carbon credits. And thanks again for saving us from that less than honorably discharged Swiftboater who shot himself in his own ass and then put himself up for medals. Thanks, we owe you.

Posted by Hank on August 23, 2007 08:44 AM

Larry , the people could not pay their mortgages because----------------?

Posted by Allen Campbell on August 23, 2007 08:48 AM

There really can't be a single reason as to why. I suspect that a number of them simply don't want to. But I'll give my two cents on it. The major factor in the foreclosures is the "sub prime" loans that were offered. Loans given out to those with really bad credit and couldn't afford the payments of an "on the level" loan. These were considered high risk, but the payback from them could have given some hefty profits. There were a few that I saw that just simply didn't pay and got foreclosed on. While the easy answer is because of the economy, it's never really that easy. Most people had something else to pay for.

Posted by Larry on August 23, 2007 08:57 AM

Hmmm...either that, or people have lost their jobs, and can't afford their mortgage. Or, maybe their good paying manufacturing job was outsourced, and now they're working for $8 an hour at walmart, and now can't afford their mortgages.

You ever consider that, larry?

"I suspect that a number of them simply don't want to"

Are you f'king kidding me? They just don't want to pay their mortgage? You can't be that stupid, larry.

Posted by Tbone on August 23, 2007 09:20 AM

Posted by Keith on August 23, 2007 09:42 AM

Allen - Larry is correct when saying there are many reasons for people not paying their mortgages.

If, as you say, this was primarily due to poeple losing their jobs, both the percentage of total homeowners in foreclusure and unemplyment rates would be much, much higher.

As I stated earlier, percentage of total homeowners in foreclosure has remained steady and in some areas even decreased over the last ten years.

It's the media who choose to look only at the number of filings while ignoring percentage. It makes for better eye grabbing headlines.

Posted by Allen Campbell on August 23, 2007 10:09 AM

Hey Keith,

So far, there is silence on this thread pertaining to Clinton's ineptitude in dealing with bin Laden.

Many are quick to lay blame on Bush for 9/11 since he was president at the time, but conveniently forget that Clinton was in office during several terror attacks, particularly the first attack on the World Trade Center. Notice they don’t hammer him on that? Notice the conspiracy crowd doesn’t accuse Clinton of “allowing” that attack and others that took place under his watch? Notice they don’t drum up a scandal that Clinton was directly involved in those terror attacks the way they have accuse Bush of doing for 9/11?

On April 17, 1995, while Clinton was in office the Alfred P. Murrah federal building was bombed. Notice that nobody has ever asked what Bill Clinton knew about it and when he knew it?

Posted by Mountain Cat on August 23, 2007 10:16 AM

KW. No where in anything I've written did I even suggests foreclosures were the result of people losing their jobs. It is the greed of mortgage companies and the people who are deceived, if not actually scamed, into applying for little down, initial low payment loans that take a big hike in payments after that initial low payment lure time is up. The buyer takes the loss and the mortgage company gets to resell the house, sometimes three or four times, before luckily and connivingly finding an actually qualified buyer. This is the hidden statistic in foreclosure ratings.

However, I do find it amusing when dolts with agendas have a go at the Bush Administration for not preventing 9/11. Those of you with half a clue must surely recognize that there is a universe of difference between informed speculation and ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE. If this administration had attempted to institute the safeguards, procedures, programs, and laws that would have enabled us to make the leap to actually apprehending Mohammed Atta & friends before they reached the check-in counters, you'd still have been shrieking about "civil liberties" and how Bush is "defecating on the Constitution," in the eloquent words of one of the MENSA members here.

If a guard is watching a bank and nothing happens under his shift, then when the following guard is 2 hours into his shift when the bank gets robbed is it the first guards fault? Mike D: No fighters were scrambled initially b/c until the first impact, authorities were operating under the assumption that they were dealing with a "nominal" hijacking. That is, they expected the terrorists to divert the aircraft to other destinations, land, and make demands. The notion that they were on a suicide mission never occured to anyone in a position of authority until it was too late.

In any case, even after ANG F-16's were scrambled, the rules of engagement at the tim did NOT give them the option of firing on passenger airliners over US territory. The whole response was, first and foremost, a failure of imagination, a point that has been made many times by many people.

Bush has built 16 prisons which have become defacto boot camps because the prisoners were neutral when imprisoned. Guys: "defacto" means "in fact." There are so many facts. The Anti-Keith wrote:

Uh, maybe you didn’t realize that the Oklahoma City bombing that I mentioned (the Alfred P. Murrah federal building) happened on April 17, 1995 which was AFTER the first World Trade Center bombing (Thursday, October 28, 1993). Shortly before the first World Trade Center bombing there was a gun attack on CIA employees at Langley, Virginia. In 1995, after the first World Trade Center bombing, there was a bombing of the U.S. military complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Khobar Towers bombing occurred in 1996. The bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania happened in 1998. The U.S.S. Cole was bombed in Yemen in 2000.

Who was president during the time those attacks took place?

My point is that if people want to start pointing fingers at Bush for not doing enough to prevent 9/11 then they must be intellectually honest enough to also point fingers at Clinton for not doing enough to prevent all the attacks that happened under his watch.

I’ve said it before and I will probably be compelled to say it again; I am not a huge fan of George W. Bush. I just hate unfair accusations.

Here is an interesting idea: Let’s blame the people who actually committed those atrocities! Or should we not blame the Scary Brown People, as Paul Campos would put it, even though it is a fact that they are the ones who are truly responsible.

Now was that the most important issue in the country at the time? Hell no. That set the tone for the rest of his useless administration.

Clinton enjoyed the benefits of the Reagand and Bush 1 tax cuts that created the economy he inherited until he put in the largest tax increase in American history. That started the bubble bursting in the tech stocks just in time for Bush to take over AND get hit by 911 (caused by Clinton ignoring previous terrorist attacks - african embassy bomgings, the cole bombing, first WTC attack, etc.). And to top it off he does the nasty with an intern, on the job, at the work site.

And stop perpetuating the garbage about Bush lying about WMD. The UN inspectors found WMD all over Iraq and photgraphed & tagged them. When the U.S. went in Saddam hid them. Love that amnesia you liberals have. Or is it that you weren't born before Clinton was president and don't know any different?

Try Jimmy Carter. W isn't a great president by any means but he's definitely not as bad as Jimmy Carter was.

Bill & Hillary, 1970

BILL CLINTON's MILITARY CAREER

Bill Clinton registers for the draft on September 08, 1964, accepting all contractual conditions of registering for the draft. Selective Service Number is 3 26 46 228.

Bill Clinton classified 2-S on November 17, 1964.

Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on March 20, 1968.

Bill Clinton ordered to report for induction on July 28, 1969.

Bill Clinton refuses to report and is not inducted into the military.

Bill Clinton reclassified 1-D after enlisting in the United States Army Reserves on August 07, 1969, under authority of Col. E. Holmes.

Clinton signs enlistment papers and takes oath of enlistment. Bill Clinton fails to report to his duty station at the University of Arkansas ROTC, September 1969.

Bill Clinton reclassified 1- A on October 30, 1969, as enlistment with Army Reserves is revoked by Col. E. Holmes and Clinton now AWOL and subject to arrest under Public Law 90-40 (2)(a) registrant who has failed to report...remain liable for induction.

Bill Clinton's birthdate lottery number is 311, drawn December 1, 1969, but anyone who has already been ordered to report for induction is INELIGIBLE!

Bill Clinton runs for Congress (1974), while a fugitive from justice under Public Law 90-40.

Bill Clinton runs for Arkansas Attorney General (1976), while a fugitive from justice.

Bill Clinton receives pardon on January 21, 1977, from President Carter.

Bill Clinton becomes the FIRST PARDONED FEDERAL FELON ever to serve as President of the United States.

All these facts come from Freedom of Information requests, public laws, and various books that have been published, and have not been refuted by Clinton.

After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

Maybe if Clinton had kept those promises, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, DC. who are now dead would be alive today.

THINK ABOUT IT! It is a strange turn of events. Hillary gets $8 million for her forthcoming memoir. Bill gets about $12 million for his memoir yet to be written. This from two people who spent 8 years being unable to recall anything about past events while under oath.

Sincerely,

Cdr. Hamilton McWhorter USN (ret)

drew - the reason your hero Clinton never had "legal" problems beyond his stain on a blue dress, he knew how to cover his transgressions better than the Republicans.

Just a quick refresher course lest we forget what has happened to many "friends" of the Clintons.

1-James McDougal - Clinton's convicted Whitewater partner died of an apparent heart attack, while in solitary confinement. He was a key witness in Ken Starr's investigation.

2 -Mary Mahoney - A former White House intern was murdered July 1997 at a Starbucks Coffee Shop in Georgetown . The murder happened just after she was to go public with her story of sexual harassment in the White House.

3- Vince Foster - Former White House counselor and colleague of Hillary Clinton at Little Rock's Rose Law firm. Died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide.

4- Ron Brown - Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown's skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors. The rest of the people on the plane also died. A few days later the air Traffic controller committed suicide.

5- C. Victor Raiser II- Raiser, a major player in the Clinton fund raising organization died in a private plane crash in July 1992

6-Paul Tulley - Democratic National Committee Political Director found dead in a hotel room in Little Rock , September 1992. Described by Clinton as a "Dear friend and trusted advisor".

7-Ed Willey - Clinton fund raiser, found dead November 1993 deep in the woods in VA of a gunshot wound to the head. Ruled a suicide. Ed Willey died on the same day his wife Kathleen Willey claimed Bill Clinton groped her in the oval office in the White House. Ed Willey was involved in several Clinton fund raising events.

8-Jerry Parks -Head of Clinton's gubernatorial security team in Little Rock. Gunned down in his car at a deserted intersection outside Little Rock. Park's son said his father was building a dossier on Clinton. He allegedly threatened to reveal this information. After he died the files were mysteriously removed from his house.

9-James Bunch - Died from a gunshot suicide. It was reported that he had a "Black Book" of people which contained names of influential people who visited prostitutes in Texas and Arkansas .

10-James Wilson - Was found dead in May 1993 from an apparent hanging suicide. He was reported to have ties to Whitewater.

11-Kathy Ferguson- Ex-wife of Arkansas Trooper Danny Ferguson, was found dead in May 1994, in her living room with a gunshot to her head. It was ruled a suicide even though there were several packed suitcases, as if she were going somewhere. Danny Ferguson was a co-defendant along with Bill Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Kathy Ferguson was a possible corroborating witness for Paula Jones.

12-Bill Shelton - Arkansas State Trooper and fiance of Kathy Ferguson. Critical of the suicide ruling of his fiance, he was found dead in June, 1994 of a gunshot wound also ruled a suicide at the grave site of his fiance.

13-Gandy Baugh - Attorney for Clinton's friend Dan Lassater, died by jumping out a window of a tall building January, 1994. His client was a convicted drug distributor.

23-Barry Seal -Drug running pilot out of Mena Arkansas , death was no accident.

24-Johnny Lawhorn Jr. - Mechanic, found a check made out to Bill Clinton in the trunk of a car left at his repair shop. He was found dead after his car had hit a utility pole.

Why does the Twilight Zone theme keep running through my head when I read this thread?

Posted by Charles B on August 24, 2007 06:42 AM

Christian Conspiracy:

Apparently ,sarcastic humor escapes your perception, else you would understand what I wrote was an answer to a equally tounge in cheek comment posted by Goo11, I mean Go11. And, The phonetically contrived spelling of Jesus Christ is nothing more than an attempt to emulate how some, mostly Southern Baptist, preachers stretch the sylables of that name out in such a way as to turn a two sylable word into a four sylable word followed by changing a one sylable word into a another four sylable word. If i was making fun of anything it was the technique used and certainly not the name.

In any case though, don't you think you're the one being overly sensitive in focusing on and obviously sarcastic humor driven statement. My God,( is that blasphemy too and, if so, why do Christian preachers who use it all the time and get away with it ), if your belief is so tenuous that it requires defending from such trivial things as a phonetically strecthed name, which I believe, in and of it's self, is no blasphemy but, if it is,well then there are just a whole bunch of preachers going to hell someday, then I suggest, no offense meant, that you need a more leassons about what faith really is. Hope I didn't rock your boat to much and try to have a nice day,in spite of all the sin and sinners that seem to surrond you on a daily basis.

I don't recall contributing anything to this thread (unless my Alzheimer's is kicking in). Are you responding to phantom postings or are the voices in your head clouding your judgement?

Anonymously verbose at 12:41:

But while we're on this topic.

Your list is impressive. But Bill & Hillary are even more impressive. Imagine the multi-tasking skills one must have to be able as president/first lady to organize and personally direct (or personally carry out) the slaughter of 47 people! Imagine the talent it takes to have someone put a bullet in Ron Brown's head & at the same time engineer a plane crash so it doesn't look suspicious!

Not only that but at the same time operate a huge money laundering empire, import and distribute cocaine (and coordinate with the U.N.'s black helicopters to have it dropped off), have huge drug-induced orgies, organize with your bodyguards to have prostitutes brought in several times a week and more!

And now it turns out Hillary was seen in New York City the same week as 911! Oh, oh - better get Ken Starr on that case!

Man, those Clintons sure get stuff done! Impressive!

11:39 pm, you may be more correct than you think.
Co. McWhorter, thanks for the info!
12:41 You have just exposed what is likely to happen to anyone who comes to close to exposing the truth about those in high places, whether they be republican or democrat.

Beam me up, Scotty! Now I KNOW there is no intelligent life on this planet!

Somebody please give O.G. back his Depends.

You,and maybe I, will be the only beamees. It takes intellegence to know when and where there is none. That is why the rest of them will stay on planet earth while we go where no man has gone before. Please remind me, if I am to go, to take some cases of very old scotch whiskey with me, going where no man has gone before is hard work and I'm sure the watering places are probably few and far between.

Allen Campbell,

Oh for the days of 100 Proof Old Forester! Welcome aboard!

We'll have to navigate our way through Jonesy's LaLa-Oz-Land; and past John 2's Petrified Constitution Park, of course; and avoid the Stuckey Meteroite Swarm on the way as well. But the adventure will certainly be good fun.

And maybe we'll even find a place where there is some reason, judgment, evidence, and fact used in discussions.

Warp Speed Ahead!

Congratulations Mr. Burdick. I've never seen this many post on a single subject in such a short time. You got the pot stirred really good!

re 12:41 Anon

I had to post that one anonymously as I feared drew would turn me into the Clinton Protection Society and have me whacked (by apparent suicide, gunshot to the back of head) for publicly revealing that which should not be shown the light of day.

Not paranoid, just realistic...

12:41 post, there is about 50 others who died that could of brought down that corrupted clinton.clinton like Al Capone was brought down by a small infraction,Capone by income evasion, clinton by a fat girl.

Posted by Keith on August 24, 2007 06:44 PM

OH MY Keith, how devestating a comment about Clinton who, no doubt, is the only president who had affairs while in office. I'm sure that every pristine and oh so right Republican president never, ever indulged in any kind of tryst with a fat, slim, or any other kind of women. Certainly all the evidence to the contrary was fabricated by no good lying democrats. Yes , yes, I see now my mind must have been tainted by liberal propaganda and the republicans, who are the only morally and ethically people and all others are sinners and depraved criminals. Thanks for opening my eyes to that. I don't know how I could of been so blind, except I need you to explain one thing: If the republicans are all alike in their greatness isn't there a chance, be it ever so small, that they aren't human after all, but are are clones of brain dead, truth denying and totaly clueless aliens.

Posted by Allen Campbell on August 25, 2007 10:14 AM

allen campbell, obviously my post was above your learning capacity.Society needed to impeach this corrupt president which ever way they could. They you think he was known as slick willie. He would have people eliminated who could testified against him on his criminal activities like Al Capone.Any one with a IQ over 71 would of understand my post,so your IQ must be under 71.

Posted by Keith on August 25, 2007 11:00 AM
