Unserious about energy
So U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar and Gov. Bill Ritter want to put the energy-rich Roan Plateau and Vermillion Basin “out of bounds”? That’s fine, but I’d simply love to hear their plan on how they will keep $5 at the pump “out of bounds” too.
Until America gets serious about energy independence, I suspect that we will continue to be a nation of bottled water-guzzling and latte-sipping whiners and complainers.

to keep the natural beauty up there they are going to put up a wind farm and prevent drilling rigs in the area
Posted by on August 8, 2007 05:01 AMIts natural gas at Roan Plateau, and it isn't going to your gas pump, its being piped to the midwest and sold at bargain basement prices.
Posted by Oliver on August 8, 2007 06:47 AMAnd when natural gas is not used to produce electrical power as is too often the case, what fills the bill? Nuclear? Coal? We haven't built a nuke power plant in 30 years. And why are we importing coal to fire up our power plants when we are sitting on our very own 250 year supply?
And its CRUDE that finds its way into too many misuses, and that directly translates into higher prices at the pump. If we don't tap natural gas, then we pay more to fill 'er up!
Posted by Hank on August 8, 2007 07:43 AMAccording to Environment Colorado, the Roan Plateau has 5.8 hours of energy at the rate Americans currently use. 5.8 hours, less than a French workday. Is it worth destroying the Roan as we know it for 5.8 hours, and well paying jobs for tens of people for a few years?
Posted by on August 8, 2007 09:24 AMI'd like to know who is "unserious" about edimikation--you Hank, or the RMN?
Posted by Is our child leard'd? on August 8, 2007 12:44 PMEnvironment Colorado is wrong. Industry estimates are about 9 Tcf or nearly half of the natural gas consumed in the United States in a year.
And if they are right, then virtually no wells will be drilled and the Roan plateau won't be disturbed. You can't have it both ways, so stop with the misinformation.
Posted by Bunny Slippers on August 8, 2007 01:09 PMMaybe someone should get the facts out about Gull Island Alaska!
Posted by on August 8, 2007 02:43 PMBunnySlippers says that "some" people say there is enough gas in the Roan Plateau to heat her trailer for all eternity. Bless Bunny and her "some" people who are always looking for a way to extract every ounce of profit from the earth. Such wise and wonderful people to care about how much they can get without a single care about future generations. "Some" people would think that Bunny believed in the Energizer Bunny. Gut the earth then what are you going to do?
Posted by Wes on August 8, 2007 02:45 PMWes, you're a troll. As I pointed out, if Environment Colorado is right, then virtually no wells will be drilled as there is nothing to take out. Are you that biased (stupid?) that you think oil and gas companies will drill wells for no reason?
BTW, turn off your computer, you're using resources that could be better used by future generations.....
