War’s human cost
Thursday, August 2 at 12:01 AM

The big news out of Iraq lately is that some 8 million people there are in dire need of help to just simply survive. Because of the strife there, they are in need of water, food and shelter.
This big news does not mention the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have left their country and are more than likely suffering somewhere else.
The big news does not mention those who have been killed by our unprovoked war, nor does it mention the wounded Iraqis, who must number in the hundreds of thousands.
What about our own suffering? Close to 4,000 dead, the wounded in the tens of thousands. What we are having to do without so that this unneeded war can continue?
It does not end there. What will our children and grandchildren do without so that our military establishment can make war?

hey they could all go to mexico as they have a lot of space available down there.

Ernest no Republican or rightwinger cares about how many have died in iraq, it is meaningless to them. How many million die for lack or food or healthcare here doesnt matter either. The only important number is 3000 who were killed by terrorists on 9/11. That is our justification for waging war with anyone we wnat to in the world ( whether involved in 9/11 or not) also justification for ignoring our own citizens dying or needing help. Socail programs, bah humbug. No more Farm bills, let them just just band together and screw us like the oilmen do.

Has nothing to do with lunatic fundamentalist Shias and Sunnis slaughtering each other wholesale, and nothing to do with Al-Qaeda and the Persians doing some slaughtering of their own when they're not busy disrupting every possible beneficial process-all in the service of an insane religion whose aim is to reduce the Earth to a seventh-century feudal theocracy. No,no,folks, not at all.The real Satan is the good ol' U.S. of A.Don't believe me? Ask Ward Churchill.

Bad as things were under Sadam, the Shias and Sunnis and Al-Qaeda and the Persians were not reducing the county to rubble. That insane religion was held in check by Sadam because it is pretty clear he was not a religious man.

Think of it this way, you have a yard full of ant hills and some times the ants go to war and kill each other and some times there is peace because the ants all avoid the "others". Then you come in and put all the ants in an ant farm and they start killing each other and destroying their homes.

Sharon- the ant-hill analogy is quite apt, from the perspective of the Deity worshipped by said fundamentalist lunatics. Never let it be said, however ,that God has no sense of humor. Why else would He lead His Chosen People to the one place in the Middle East where there is no oil?

Unprovoked war? Sanctions? Refusal to admit UN inspectors? Bart is 100% correct. Quit listening to Hollywood celebrities and watching CNN...you will be smarter in the end.

I say screw the Iraqies. They should rise up against the insurgents so our troops can come home (when the job is done). Heck, they are too damn stupid to realize that if they would just pretend to to be peaceful for a few months, WE WOULD LEAVE! Until they wise up, we should continue to kill and displace them until we break their will...just like we did in WWI, WWII, Korea. I wish I could say Vietnam too, but we had a sissy society that got in the way of that one too. Funny how politicians listen to the idiot minority.

jimidiot, find out the facts before you enable us to know how ignorant you are.

Poor guy. He seems to miss all the fun our boys had in those wars. He plum forgot to mention how the cowboys killed the Indians. I expect he gets his kicks out of killing people in those computer games. Boy, does he ever need to take a tour of our military hospitals.
