A nightmare for taxpayers
I am outraged that our elected leaders continue to disrespect and ignore the will of the citizens by trying again to pass yet another version of an amnesty bill.
Regardless of how it’s wrapped, the DREAM Act is indeed a nightmarish amnesty loophole that not only grants a fast track to full citizenship, but it also siphons taxpayer benefits and redirects them to illegal aliens!
Current law prohibits states from giving illegal aliens in-state tuition rates unless those rates are available to other citizens. The DREAM Act would nullify current law and allow states to grant illegal aliens in-state tuition rates. Not only does this create a taxpayer-funded benefit to illegal aliens, it is a benefit not even available to U.S. citizens!
This is wrong, and I urge Rocky readers not to support any legislation that grants amnesty to illegal aliens, and uses my tax dollars to provide in-state tuition discounts to illegal aliens.

Cathi,
Why all the whinning? Didn't you vote for these bastards too?
Posted by on September 27, 2007 06:41 AMThe nightmare is only starting. The senate select committee (the amnesty folks), stated the average illegal alien will cost this country $400,000 during their lifetime. Multiply that by 20 million (the 12 million was a heaviliy disputed figure from the 2000 census as under reported by hispanic groups until recently). My calculator does not have that many zeros. But it looks like 80 trillion dollars. But of course Amnesty will allow family members to follow ( 40-60 million?)and that sounds like a bankrupt taxpayer. Perhaps that is what was intended after all. We will then, welcome Big Brother.
Posted by Breeze on September 27, 2007 07:17 AMThey are hiding the Dream Act in the latest defense funding bill so most will never know it is there. It is known as Senate Amendment 2919. Go to www.numbersusa.com and you can send free faxes, and get phone contacts for your senators. Please fax and call them and tell them to vote against this deceptive amendment.
Posted by Jay on September 27, 2007 10:00 AMI support the DREAM act provisions of allowing children who were brought here and grown up here to adjust their status through going to college. I wish that there were also a community service option in this bill as there was in the original.
The most disturbing thing about the current DREAM Act is its inclusion in the Dept of Defense bill. The second option for adjusting status is to serve in the military. This is an extension of the poverty draft in this country and a blatant exploitation of the desire these children have to be included in this country. If a person desires to serve their country by serving in the military, I respect that. I deplore the move of this administration to avoid a draft, and the opposition it will raise, by stepping up recruiting among those most vulnerable; low-income kids, people of color and immigrants.

Posted by A on September 27, 2007 12:36 PMPiper, NOTHING no instate tuition for any illegal untill we are wlling to give those benefits to each LEGAL citizen FIRST
Posted by Fresh on September 27, 2007 12:41 PMYeah, only white people should go into the military and die for our country.
Illegal immigrants kids should just stay home, go to college on our dime, and keep screwing the taxpayer out of money for their parents who will also be legalized through the this new Dream amnesty Act!
Posted by Shame on Piper on September 27, 2007 12:49 PMNO to amnesty, yes to enforcing the immigration laws.
No more freebies, no more anchor babies, no more theft of jobs from the American people!
No more signs and billboards in foreign languages. If you won't learn the language, go home!
I have nothing against LEGAL immigration. I am against ILLEGAL immigration and the failure to assimilate. Immigrants used to WANT to come to AMERICA to become AMERICAN. Now they want to bring their countries here and expect US to assimilate.
NO MORE! The American people are fed up!
BE HEARD.
Posted by c on September 27, 2007 03:51 PMNothing for illegals and their anchor babies.
If the parents can buy their Coronas, Suv's
F-150's ,etc they can pay for their own kids
education, medical, food and everything else that goes with parenting.
Kill The Dream Act, The Strive Act, Drivers License, everything else!
And revise Amendment 14
Oh Cathi,
Get a grip! Unless you are going to get a job picking lettuce (and we all know that daddy will have none of that) we need someone to do these jobs. Let's be lucid a do something that makes some sense. You can't unring the bell no matter how hard we wish for it.
Wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which fills up first.
Geez you make such an easy target for Libs that all rational conservatives wish you guys would go away
