Alberto Gonzales
I found your editorial of August 31, admonishing Democrats for continuing to go after Gonzalez even after he resigned, to be extremely misleading.
The Dems are NOT pursuing Gonzalez because of the firing of the attorneys, as you mislead your readers to believe— they are pursuing charges against Gonzalez for LYING TO CONGRESS. The Democrats have stated this fact in several press releases, but the Rocky has chosen to look the other way, trying to lessen the criminality of Gonzalez—putting lipstick on a pig, no less.
Gonzalez, sworn to uphold the law, has lied continually and has put his party and Bush before his country. He has condoned and facilitated torture in the name of the United States of America. He should be put on trial and not given a pass. If we do not punish violators of the rule of law, then the Rocky might as well advocate that all prisoners be let free, no questions asked.
This letter has not been edited.
Hey slimeball,The only people that lied were the democraps.Check the facts before you write a ridiculous post.
Posted by Keith on September 10, 2007 02:43 PMIt is terrible to generalize, but when the evidence is so strong to support such a generalization, it is hard to ignore. The blind partisanship of some Democrats is hard to ignore, especially when dealing with actual facts.
Ms. Highland's "tell" was her last question:
"Doesn’t it hurt you somewhere inside?"
Well, Ms. Highland, most intelligent people THINK, use critical reasoning, and analytical analysis as the basis for conclusions, at least when it comes to the law. They don't use their feelings, or personal pains.
Ms. Highland claims that "...Dems are NOT pursuing Gonzalez because of the firing of the attorneys, as you mislead your readers to believe— they are pursuing charges against Gonzalez for LYING TO CONGRESS. The Democrats have stated this fact in several press releases..."
Firstly, it is GONZALES, not GONZALEZ. Secondly, where are these press releases? I could find no press release from a member of Congress regarding the action of moving forward with charges, or even an investigation into Congressional Perjury. Maybe you refer to quotes published in the media (pretty big difference between quoting a statement and a press release)?
In fact, the only "possible" consideration of perjury charges has nothing to do with the resignations of the 8 US Attorney's, but testimony regarding the NSA's terrorist surveillance program. And at issue? A 2006 memo, recalling a 2004 meeting and the use of the words Terrorist Surveillance Program.
Emotion tends to cloud judgment (http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1933-1592.2003.tb00245.x).
It is evident that your emotions have taken away your ability for rational and reasoned thought. This is typical.
It is also observable that a tendency exists for those that would describe themselves as "Democrats" on this posting board, to react and post based on emotion and emotion alone. It is observable. However, the phenomenon is not only a Democratic one, but seems to heavily favor partisans on both ends of the political spectrum, especially at the extreme ends.
It makes it difficult to have a rational discussion with someone, when the sole basis for their argument is personal feelings and emotion. I would love to discuss a topic on unconstitutional wiretaps (actually, the wiretaps in and of themselves are not unconstitutional, just the use of them for any prosecution would be), and the culpability of former AG Gonzales while he was White House Counsel. But I would hope that our discussion (written of course), would be based on researched facts, not on your "feelings of the day."

Posted by 40acresandmymuleandNAMvetbennies on September 10, 2007 03:43 PMDan2, I think this administration is guilty of many things, they can all resign, but they can`t hide.
I love,(oops that's an emotion) to see a good old investigation where all the insiders and Bush appointees are made to answer questions and punished if they lie.
Did you see yesterdays RMN where it looks like the wiretaps and government searching may have been broader than we thought?
Posted by Sharon B. on September 10, 2007 03:49 PMAnd what is your point about that article Sharon?
Do you want those who wish to kill your family and my family to know exactly what our government is doing to thwart their attempts?
It sure sounds like it me- why don't you and the New York times move to France.
Posted by on September 10, 2007 04:09 PMI guess you do not want to know what your goverment is doing... Why don't you and Fox move to Russa or China.

Shouldn't you be "running your business" instead of "dictating to your office girl"?
pfffffffffffft

Posted by Keith on September 11, 2007 08:29 AMSharon,
I did see that. I am 100% opposed to anything that violates our constitutional rights and guarantees.
I would love a non-partisan investigation into not only the administration representatives that were involved in the Terrorist Surveillance Program, but those congressmen and women that were also involved and briefed on the Terrorist Surveillance Program, as the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence had Congressional oversight on this topic. The members of the Senate that we should also investigate:
Sen. Rockefeller - D WV
Sen. Levin - D MI
Sen. Feinstein - D CA
Sen. Hatch - R UT
Sen. Bond - D MO
What is very interesting to me, is the claim of ignorance by the members of Congress. According to the linked memo, there were MANY members of Congress briefed to this exact issue.

Seems to me, like no other time in our history, it really is time to kick out all the career politicians, if they can't even remember what business they are discussing...
