An admission of being from Boulder
Sunday, September 30 at 2:00 PM

Grant D. Cyrus of Boulder writes:

The other day I was talking to my 80 something year old American Indian (Tslagi)/ Italian, but above all very Chicagoan mom -one of my many brothers use to call her Ma Barker- about whatever when outta nowhere she suddenly blurts out ‘you people from Boulder.’ I didn’t let on at first that I was shocked, mindblown actually, seeing that even after 3 decades I‘d never considered myself from Boulder, not many people did/do. Too (student) fluid a place for one thing. I’d always told people I was from Chicago, if anything. I shot that right back at her, ‘Mom NOBODY’S from Boulder.’ YOU are, you’re a Boulder original (I know, I know an original what). You’ve now spent more time there than Chicago where I was born or Jamaica and Barbados where I grew up. Stunned for once I truly did not know what to say but ol’ Ma Barker, the matriarch had spoken.
Damn, snap, pop all of a sudden I was from BOULDER, but what did that/does that even mean? I panicked and I researched.
Hmmm, super sunny Boulder an intelligent town of 90,000 situated in an Arapaho Indian valley in the foothills of the brilliant Rocky Mountains and the third most highly educated county in the country with some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. From the laymen to the scientists, researchers, medical and other professionals I’ve been consistently impressed. And all of this within an essentially Center Leftist political framework.
Ok Ma Barker I guess I’ll take it and just try to suffer through.

What makes ego freak Grant think anyone cares about his past personal life or love of Boulder and its moonbats?

He also may want to think about hitting the bong after posting, not before.

"the third most highly educated county in the country "
Doesn't necessarily make you all "smart" Grant. Look at the nannyist policies of your local government, the idiots teaching your kids at Boulder High School, your public Librarian, Ward Churchill, Boulder Police Department, Mary Keenan/Lacey, etc, etc.
Educated but not very smart.

The land of fruits and nuts.

You all made Grant's point very well.

Rethuglicon posters on this website are lightning quick to judge and comment on someone's ideas because they come from Boulder, even though it's irrelevant. More rare is a point by point rebuttal of liberal points of view with facts cited as backup.

I haven't seen any liberals who criticize Cons Yaakov Watkins or Brian Stuckey suggesting they move to Colorado Springs since they don't fit in in liberal Denver.

Very Interesting, But Stupid as Artie Johnson would say on Laugh In as he dressed in a WWII German Uniform and hide behind a bush while smoking a cigarrette.

Boulder?? You mean Boulder, Colorado??

Bwahahahahah!!!!! Tis funny indeed??

Mr. Cyrus, What ever happened to the Midyette couple that tortured and killed their little baby son?? Since Midyettes father is a bigwig in Boulder Is Mary Lacy going to protect them?? Did they skip the country with daddys money? are they in jail? Where in Boulder are the accused Midyettes???

Where the hell is the outrage in Boulder and news coverage over this atrocity??????

Posted by A on October 1, 2007 12:42 PM

A - Last I heard the Midyettes are facing pretty serious charges. If the fact they are out on bail bothers you so, you need to contact our legislators and ask for higher bail for those accused of any act resulting in death. However, as is often the case, rich people will still be able to bail out their loved ones while the poor sit in jail until trial.

I'm curious about the community that you live in. Are there no unsolved murders? Bungled investigations? Incidents of delayed justice?

Seems Boulder is always looking for ways to make it a stronger community. Please share more about your personal Utopia.

Michael R. Personal Utopia?? Cmon!

I am outraged over the Midyettes and what they did to their tiny little son. They should not have even been givin bail!!!

Boulder just doesn't seem to notice. Has anything at all been written in the local papers in Boulder concerning the Midyettes and their pending charges and trial?

Will rich daddy and the Boulder courts make sure the baby killers get a slap on the wrist and walk?

The last I heard the Midyettes were being charged with child abuse resulting in death. That is the lesser charge!! They should be charged with 1st degree murder!!!!!! Will Boulder do it? I kinda doubt it!!!

a - Don't get me wrong, I share your outrage at the death of an innocent baby at (what is assumed to be) the hands of his own parents. And yes, I question the excessive delay in charging the parents.

My understanding of bail however is that the guidelines are set on a statewide basis, not individual jurisdictions. I honestly can't think of a case of child abuse where parents were convicted of first degree murder because the circumstances rarely fit the definition of premeditation. These are things that you should take up with your legislators.

I did not mean that Boulder is my personal Utopia (I don't even live there). I was just asking about your community and whether it faces the same issues. If your town is doing it better, please share with others.

And yes, the Daily Camera has had numerous articles and the Midyette baby., including a link in their online version. They have also demonstrated unusual media restraint so as not to taint a future jury pool.

Seems people get pretty worked up about events in Boulder. Are you as familiar with the details of the last murder in your own community?
