Columbine memorial
Friday, September 14 at 2:00 PM

Robert E Forman of Lakewood writes:

One would think that the Columbine Memorial would be for the victims and their families. Apparently that thinking is wrong. Apparently the victims and the families of the victims must accept the dictates of atheists who may or may not profess any tie to the incident at Columbine High School, but would nonetheless be “offended” if a “Christian” choir sang at the Columbine Memorial, regardless of what the majority of the victims and their families would prefer.
Thus the atheists do what atheists do best: The atheists must offend others so that they don’t get their feelings hurt by listening to a few songs at a Memorial they don’t have to attend.
If atheists are so offended by “Christians” singing a few “Christian” songs, then, in the long run, they have absolutely nothing to worry about. If Christians and God are that offensive to atheists, I can virtually guarantee them that, once their time on earth is over, they will see God only briefly — and then they will never, ever have to worry about being bothered by seeing the sight of Him ever again.

READER COMMENTS

The letter makes a somewhat good point early on, but falls apart with the ridiculous claim at the end. How would you "guarantee" that? How would you react to a Muslim making the same claim about you and all the other "infidels?"

The closing bromide reminds me of a point skillfully made by the brilliant Dave Barry. Something like this (I'm paraphraising): "Ever notice how the more someone wants to tell you about their religious beliefs, the less they want to hear about yours."

And how much would you pay me, a taxpayer, to sing your Christian songs on taxpayer purchased and financed property?

Quit asking for handouts. Get off of your alter (and the public back), start a fund, buy your own property, put up a memorial, and sing your vocal cords out.

Until then, keep your "god" off of my property.

It seems ok for christians to offend atheists at every turn, yet they simply cannot understand how anyone could be offended by them. Are you certain there were no atheists connected to Columbine? Seem to me that the entire community is connected to it, and I'm pretty sure there might be one or two in the community who are not christians.

I can virtually guarantee you that you are wrong.

The nitwit letter writers are the anti-christs, but the one's who kept the choir out are the racist organizers who didn't want a black gospel choir.

"Apparently the victims and the families of the victims must accept the dictates of atheists who may or may not profess any tie to the incident at Columbine High School."

Must the victims and the families of the victims accept the dictates of Christians who may or may not etc.? Is Columbine a "Christian" high school? (Silly question: the Christians own everything in America, or think they do.) I'll grant one thing: I can't speak for all atheists of course, but I personally assume absolutely no "tie to the incident at Columbine High School" (what a sinister phrase). I was nowhere near the place that day. How many Christians were involved, though?

Can't the victims and the families of the victims decide whether they want "Christian" music at the Memorial? And all others keep out of it?

I have always wondered why people believe in the benevolence of the Christian god after something so horrible like the Columbine massacre. Where was the great god before hand? Why doesn't he stop so much
of the evil in this world? Why doesn't he protect us as a human father would protect his children? Why does he allow such suffering amongst his children? Just wondering, is all.

Yesterday's Daily reveals that god is becoming less and less. Whenever god appears in public he lets go flatulence so odorous the stench is overwhelming; therefore, keep the flatulence in your church, in your home or in your psyche, but don't impose flatulence of your liking/loving on me. Imbibe on the flatulence, Robert E. Foreman, by inhaling but don't exhale on public property. Your claim the atheist stinks but so does your god whoever he/she may be. Keep your stink to yourself.

Maybe the parents and administration should look at what VA Tech did.

They had a shooting, they built a Memorial and dedicated the memorial in less than one year time.

Columbine has been going on forever, with the fighting back and forth, and you can say this but you can't say that. You can have this kind of tile but you can't have that. Please give us more money for the 6 million dollar memorial. Now you can't sing this but you can sing that.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

CigaAMEN,

Back on the line concerning Reggie Rivers, there is a posting that carries your name. In it the poster accuses me of "going after the children", instead of "calling the poster names".

Is this you? Or is this a "hijacking", as seems to be a problem lately?

The posting is there in support of someting by someone calling him/her self "Z", to which I relplied in kind; "Z"'s own posting being a hyperbolic flight of imagination concerning my life as a "college professor".

I do remember having some disagreement with you - mostly in the area of education; but I certainly don't remember "going after your children" - or being motivated to call you names, either, for that matter.. Would you be so kind as to detail this incident, if it happened? The posting can be found back on the Reggie Rivers site. I hate to cross topics, and butt in where I am off topic entirely; but this is the only posting today - other than that one cited - I can find of yours.

Thank you for your consideration. And, thanks to all for yours, and your patience as well.
