Dislike of President Bush
Monday, September 24 at 9:36 AM

R. Kiefer of Arvada writes:

If I were a supporter of George W. Bush, I would probably want to sit down, joke a bit, and have a cold one with him - but I detest Mr. Bush¹s philosophy of promoting corporate control of America.
No shameful or derogatory names ( that I could call the Bush Administration ) can adequately express my disgust for its determined, purposeful and well-thought out dismantling of our democracy - by doing everything possible to destroy this nation¹s unique middle-class. One who believes that the purpose of this government should be the pursuit of power and wealth of, for and by corporations, as opposed to ³ life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness² for ordinary citizens, need read no further.
That said, I marvel at the efficiency of Mr. Bush¹s policies, and how successfully he has fooled the electorate and cowed the Congress. Karl Rove did a masterful job of teaching the president how to disguise his policies by calling them what they’re not - and to dispute or question their real purpose - well, it just doesn¹t sound right. Not only that, how can anyone who gushes patriotism and piety be questioned? Any thinking ten-year old could spot a politician who hides behind God or the flag - but unfortunately, ten year-olds can¹t vote.
As deceitful as I find this president¹s actions, I grudgingly concede that there is a consistency (staying the course, if you will, ) or common thread running through them all. Be it as diverse as the war in Iraq, energy policy, or medicines for seniors, the ultimate purpose of any Bush policy or law - despite its title - is the obscene ( not just fair or competitive ) profit or advantage for whatever group or industry is involved in the implementation of that package.

Sorry to hear that the American experience, free-market capitalism and freedom isn't working for you. American households have managed to accumulater a record $50 trillion in net worth, sorry that you didn't get your share. So why not just purchase a one way ticket to Havana for you and your non-tax paying middle class friends. And be sure that you and your slacker friends remember to bring your own hammocks. Fidel doesn't supply any.

Can't fly to havana, hank, because of the failed embargo that includes tourism. So the rest of your argument is just blather from an idiot.

It isn't just W. You need to read more.

Corporate America is who provides your employment. I suppose you would be happier under socialist control like the communists and they would provide you with a govement job, housing, heath care and the rest of your needs.

I wonder what the Cubans who fled Castro's Cuba, the east Germans and Russian people would think of ungrateful pseudo american such as yourself.

What that idiot editor did in CSU College newspaper is parr for most liberals and leftist that hide behind the 1st Amendment.

The left along with the help of the ACLU are the ones dismantling our democracy. The ACLU was founded by a coummunist who's sole purpose was to subvert our Constitution and Bill of rights. The rest of your incoherent ramblings are those of an irrational socialist.

Mr. Kiefer it is the true Americans of this nation that detest you and your lies as we did the former Soviet Union.

Gee Hank, sounds like you are the one who should be moving to Havana.

Whew hank, what are You Keith's illegitimate child? Screw the middle class, eh? America is only for the rich ( or those worthless bastards who inherit it and certainly dont work any harder than the have-nots).

"history in the making" sounds like it's going to be a rather dark, sad history. You far right folks are sounding a little tired lately, using the same old snipes, and daring to call anyone who disagrees with you "un-patriotic, "treasonous","commies" "wimps","cowards", etc., or whatever limited adjectives your feeble, desperate minds can conjure.Sounds VERY juvenile to me. G.W. Bush has become a dangerous joke, and it's evidenced by his attack on congress saying they are behaving fiscally irresponsibly by not passing the funding bills quick enough. Do you think that by your blind support of this president and his administration that he is going to turn around and give a damn about you? History in the making, INDEED!

Posted by Roland on September 24, 2007 03:48 PM

R. Kiefer,

You are correct sir, Bush does nothing unless it benefits his corporate buddies. He will veto anything that is for the common man. Just look at the prescription bill, can't buy from outside US companies. Gee why not, oh ya because the pharms here would lose money. It is all aboput the money with this admin. Never before has so much tax money been squandered, lost and unnaccounted for. That's what happens when we have a president that doesn't understand cause and effect. Also yes the Corps do supply alot of jobs but they also steal their employees 401 and retirement savings. Bush= no accountability and worst president ever...

Hank -- No more telling people to go to Havana - ONE WEEK!

Posted by Soup Nazi on September 24, 2007 03:59 PM

Ah, corporate socialism. What a simple solution to our all of our problems. Just let the smart and powerful people run our lives and forget about the democracy part. Corporations are our masters (not the other way around). All hail the corporations! We created them, now let them do their jobs. Don't question their decisions. They know what is best for all of us. Trust them.

I don't dislike Bush. I disdain him for being a UCMJ-felon (40+ years AWOLee and deserter) and occupying the Oval Office. I hate the fact he hired Judge Alito, who Bush knew was also a UCMJ-felon (40+ years AWOLee and deserter) too.

I am repulsed that Bush and his pappy violated Truman's executive order, which desegregated all of our military units. To save "W's" hide, the Bush-clan resegregated all of our military units, when they carved the racially-segregated Texas Air National Guard, as a NAM sanctuary for "W". Blacks call these commissions "high crimes and misdemeanors" and violations of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

MIDDLE EAST PLANTATION: Bush is guilty of exterminating Arabs (100K), just for grins. Bush and Cheney want to steal the Arabs oil. Bush like Saddam, used chemical weapons on unsuspecting Iraqi citizens.

America's 1st family, America's worst. GWHB made $16 million from his insider stock trading at Global Crossings, Inc. Without a shot being fired, Neil Bush robbed Denver's Silverado Bank of more than $1 billion. And for the last time, that isn't Barbara Bush on the Quaker Oats box.i

In regards to History's comments: "Corporate America is who provides your employment. I suppose you would be happier under socialist control like the communists and they would provide you with a govement job, housing, heath care and the rest of your needs."

Neither corporate america nor a socialist government cares about my needs. What would be the difference? Selling your soul to corporations as opposed to communists does not make you any more of an American.

I think it's time a great many of you Republicans re-visit what it truly means to be a conservative. The mutant, perverse philosophy Republicans practice post-2000 has little to do with true conservatism.

Posted by Dan on September 24, 2007 06:26 PM

From John II: "You enjoy all the benefits of corporations and capitalism while complaining about the greed of the same institutions that provide you these benefits."

Don't Republicans do the same in regards to taxes and public services? Oh.... wait.... you built that roadway to your house with your bare hands.

lefties and righties complain all day about how wrong the other is, when really they have the same flaws, just different flavors.

Dan pondered:

"Don't Republicans do the same in regards to taxes and public services? Oh.... wait.... you built that roadway to your house with your bare hands."

Not quite, Dan. The building of roads is explicitly authorized by our Constitution.

John II,
You know the point I'm making here.

Also, in regards to your assertion: "How can a corporation be your master unless you let it?"

Let me respond to this point with the following example. I work in the publishing industry, for a 40,000 circulation four-color magazine. Just this past July, the PRC enacted mailing rates and standards written entirely by Time-Warner, with little revision from Time-Warner's original draft. The revised rates heavily increase the rates of smaller publishers (some up to a 30% increase), while large publishers (like Time-Warner, of course) barely see any increase.

Now what is the PRC doing even entertaining Time-Warner's rates draft, let alone enacting it with little public discourse? We the people did not elect Time-Warner to represent us in terms of re-writing the PRC's rate policies. And who is sitting on the PRC? Ah yes, of course.... Bush cronies.

You may be comfortable with Corporate America having so much influence over public policy, but from my point of view, they are not an elected entity and should not have that much say.

Corporatocracy, socialism-- either/or, doesn't matter. It's the masses that get screwed.

Posted by Dan on September 24, 2007 06:53 PM

What is the PRC?

No I don't. Which government service do Republicans love yet complain about?

Stan, I am starting to think John II`s wife makes all the money. He stays home to post all day.

"Which government service do Republicans love yet complain about?"

Well, public education for one thing. Or are all Republicans home-schooled? I apologize for the snide remark, but I have heard Republicans complain about every government service from transportation, law enforcement, schools, and so forth. The only government entity I have yet to see Republicans attack is the military.

Now I am not a big proponent of spending either. I prefer a balanced approach to spending for government services that enhances tax revenues (i.e. transportation, public education, infrastyructure, etc.). I also prefer greater efficiency in government spending.

I do NOT believe that private industry should take on governmental services, due to lack of accountability and the laughable myth that private industry is "more efficient".... private enterprises are often just as bad as government.

I would like to see Republicans return to REAL conservative values-- the values of fiscal responsibility, steering clear of nannyism, no social engineering, stronger local and weaker federal control, etc. The current version of the Republican Party does not espouse these values, and I am surprised more conservatives do not see that.

"What is the PRC?"

They are the Postal Regulatory Commission.

"The current version of the Republican Party does not espouse these values, and I am surprised more conservatives do not see that."

That's the main reason they lost the last elections.

"Well, public education for one thing. Or are all Republicans home-schooled? "

Republicans favor private schooling and school choice vouchers over government-run schools. I'm not sure about law enforcement. Most Republicans support the police departments. It's usual the liberals that protest against the police. So, I'm still not sure what programs you're referring to.

"I would like to see Republicans return to REAL conservative values-- the values of fiscal responsibility, steering clear of nannyism, no social engineering, stronger local and weaker federal control, etc."

So, do you favor the abolishment of Social Security at the federal level? Do you feel universal health care gives too much power to the federal government over local government? Should we eliminate the federal Dept. of Education?

I really like W., Bush, as a person, and would normally be very happy that he doesn't give the press the satisfaction of caring about what they think. Unfortunately he thinks that the illegals in this country need to stay here and be made legal. He listened to those who are afraid to fight the war as a war and gave PC orders to the troops. Iraq is not the mistake, not fighting is the mistake and he knows it. He has abandoned Conservative (capital intended) values and needs to change what he is doing. I'm sure he won't make the changes but I wish he would:

1. Give the military the orders, and authority to do anything necessary to defeat the enemy.
2. Order ICE to deport any illegal apprehended in this country.
3. Apply pressure to make the tax cuts permanent.
4. Make all efforts to prevent socialized medicine starting with the childrens' insurance program.
5. Push hard for the Medicare and Medicaid programs to have double or triple the numbers with hard jail time for violators.
6. Act swiftly to punish employers who hire illegals with stiff fines and push for legislation for jail time for the worst offenders..
7. Tell Congress Republicans to stop adding programs and pork and enforce it with vetos.

So much for dreams. I fully expect the Democrats to win the Presidency because the only one who can beat Hillary will not satisfy the moderates who hijacked the party. Maybe after taxes go sky high and more government interference from both federal and state burdens the people, we will set rid of those drunken sailors no matter whether they wear red or blue. I'm for the ones who think that the money we earn is ours not the government's.

What party was hijacked by moderates? Surely you don't think moderates control the GOP. McCain would be President if that was the case. Bush had to pretend to be some sort of Evangelical to get elected.

When all the flack from the left and the right is done, the question of who or what is in control of the government really, is still on the public table. A bit of history needs airing before answering that question. In the formative years of what was then a experimental exercise in democarcy, it was the people who mattered most in that process because the point was how to implement a form of government that had not existed before.

There was much argument about this, there were even some who insisted the proper form of social governing was the same as they fled to escape tyrrany and oppression, monarchy. In the end though it was noted by a few of the wisest men among our founding fathers that no other existing form of rule quarenteed the freedom, liberty and justice which were at the core of the rebellion movement in the first place.

It was shortly afterwards that business was recognized as the vehicle by which the inovation and production needed to create a viable economy, to replaced the independent farming based economy, which produced nothing useable to defend the new and vulnerable country. A brief and, I believe, accurate summation of how business became the driving force behind the new republic.

But it took implementation of antitrust laws and other federal laws and regulations to keep business from becoming more powerful than the government. Therefor, business had to get involved in political influence and interference to offset the laws and regulations they thought were unwarratly imposed on them.

Which brings us to the present; A balance between legitimate government and public interests and big business mercantile interests needs to be struck to replace the constant war for power that now exists between those two factions. If our elected public officials are influenced more by big business than the voting public, which is now the case, true republic, representative government will fast become a thing of the past due to the greed, power and control both public officials and big business regard as their arrogant, almost religious, right.

Why do you deny the truth and try to obfuscate what I commented. If the the shoe fits wear it.

You leftisthave no self respect and integrity or you would get the hell out of this country that you really do not belong to.
Just a bunch of parasites living off of the sacrifices others have made while you sit on your left wing butts and whine and complain because this country isn't up to your low down socialist standards.
You are cry babies who need Hillary to change your diapers and sore losers which is as un- American as the rest of your agenda.

Take a hike Loser.

Obviously there is a deep division on this issue (hatred of Pres. Bush) and that in and of itself is indicative of a huge shortcoming on his part. He has made his presidency about being as caustic as possible to 49% of the population to the point that hatred is really inevitable. There have never been any attempts to compromise on even a single issue, and he's used his power exclusively for the gain of a single party, a single class of citizen, and a single (third-grade, nascar, hillbilly) mindset.

I am too young to remember a president who was a great leader, but I have never seen a president so willfully disdainful of such a large portion of the population. He has almost single-handedly destroyed this country's government beyond repair.
