Question? When is the Democratic controlled Colorado State Legislature going to stop trying to pass tax increases under false titles like the “Property Tax Freeze” bill that they want to introduce in the next session. This makes this bill sound like a tax freeze to the public and not the tax increase that it really is. The reason that the legislature wants to do this is to help pay for Amendment 23 that now limits their spending on other items in the general budget.
In 1992 the people passed the Bruce Amendment calling for a vote of the people on all tax increases that exceed certain requirements of the bill. This tax limitation has kept property taxes relatively constant by requiring the mill levies to go down when the property values went up over the years.
Now the legislature wants to pass, without a vote of the people, a bill freezing the mill levies at current levels, thus increasing these taxes for everyone in the state. Their reasoning for passing this legislatively, and not by the people’s vote, is that most of the school districts have de-Bruced anyway, so a vote is not needed.
It is true that most districts have de-Bruced, but not for the reason that the legislature is trying to make you think. The have done this so that they can keep athletic fees, band fees and other incidental fees.
It is time for the people to contact their representatives and stop this type of legislation from being enacted.

In a word, never. Like it was the nature of the scorpion to sting the frog whose life it depended on, the Democrats nature is sting the productive to compensate for the less productive and cry ignorance as we slide into an economic morass which will leave all in worse shape than before.

Even if you do pay more taxes than the 5 of us put together there is no reason to call people names Mr 6:57! Obviously you are the one with the problem especially since you don't even have the guts to put down a name. I don't understand why there is so much nastyness on these posts now. We don't have to agree and we can say our peace without attacking people. You need to grow up! Just remember "divide and conquer'' ! If people came together and fought for our rights maybe things would change instead of just bitching on these posts! Everyone should play nice in the sand box!

If you can justify tax revenue losses created by Legislative knee jerk actions and the governor's ignoring the facts when this state does not have the money from taxes to do what needs done for the public good, please do.

It's simple, well maybe, for a person with average thinking ability untainted by presupposed, unjustified personal preferences. I know, how about a simple analogy: You have this goose that lays golden eggs. You need the goose because of the eggs it lays every day that pay your bills.You kill the goose because you think it is full of golden eggs, It is not. You now have no more golden eggs and one dead goose.

Maybe, just maybe, some democates do suck. But, lest we forget, is it not the republicans who have increased spending to an excessive point never seen before, not in the years of World War Two, not in the years of the Korean War or even the Viet Nam war era and, allowed China to amass untold billions of dollars in U.S. treasury bills and notes, the cashing in of which would bring the American economy to it's knees.

This all done by the party that claimed they would reduce governmental spending and square away the budget? I don't think much of either party, they are more the same than not in their ignoring of the best interests of the taxpayers and the public welfare. They are equally irresponsible in all ways that matter to the wellbeing of this Country.

Madam speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall Tax on all stock market profits (including Retirement fund, 401Ks and Mutual Funds! Alas, it is true - all to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed Minorities!

Boy, are we in trouble... This woman is frightening. Take special note of the last paragraph. Is she really this whacked out?

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of the stock market as "just another example of Bush policies helping the rich get richer". "First Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded with new record low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy employers are getting even wealthier at the expense of the underpaid working class".

She went on to say "Despite the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq our economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at all time highs. What this really means is that business is exploiting the war effort and working Americans, just to put money in their own pockets".

When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded "Only the rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these obscene record highs". There is no question these windfall profits and income created by the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those dollars redistributed to the poor and working class". Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our working class who, by their hard work, are responsible for generating these corporate profits that create stock market profits for the rich. We in congress will need to address this issue to either tax these profits or to control the stock market to prevent this unearned income t o flow to the rich."

When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have investments in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401Ks, and the stock market she replied "That may be true, but probably only 5% account for 90% of all these investment dollars. That's just more "trickle down" economics claiming that if a corporation is successful that everyone from the CEO to the floor sweeper benefit from higher wages and job security which is ridiculous". "How much of this 'trickle down' ever gets to the unemployed and minorities in our county? None, and that's the tragedy of these stock market highs."

"We democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates on the rich and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current lower income tax payers off the rolls and increase government income substantially." We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest."

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied : "We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as 'Americans'."

The illegal financier of Hillary will be found shot in the back of the head like Vince Foster - obvious suicide. The Clinton hit squad gets another notch on the bedpost.

See how much more efficient the Democrats are. The Republicans out there embarrassments in public view -- the Democrats just arrange convenient suicides; hence, no embarrassment or scandal.
