Kids need fed help, too
Recently, Gov. Bill Ritter signed SB 211, a law that will make it easier to enroll low-income kids in the Child Health Plan Plus, the state-federal health insurance plan for kids whose families make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private insurance.
This is a good development for Colorado children. However, our state’s children need federal funding as well. Without additional federal money, Colorado will face shortfalls in just a few years. Our children, our health providers and our communities will feel the gaps in coverage in numerous, costly ways.
I write to request that Colorado’s citizens advocate for children with legislators at the federal level to expand the S-CHIP program.
Molly Cannon Stevenson, Greenwood Village
A first step down the road to socialized medicine. It is important that the village pay for the medical care of children. When do they ask the village to start picking up the cost of the playstations, and other video games these families can afford instead of medical care.
How soon before the tax payer is expected to pay for thier skateboards and other toys?
Posted by on September 12, 2007 01:18 AMhey molly if you will just smoke more you will be doing your part to fund health care for kids in colorado. the dumocrats are raising taxes on tobacco again to fund the insurance for kids, so dont ask for federal help until you have done all you can to help them here at home. go buy more tobacco products and do it today, its for the children you know
Posted by on September 12, 2007 05:57 AMI personally like the idea that poor children have some of the same opportunities for entertainment as other children and also have medical care. But then I love children. When I see all the extravagant hedonism that surfeits our country, I especially like to see poor children get a break.
Posted by Truth on September 12, 2007 07:52 AMFunny how September 12, 2007 01:18 AM complains about how taxpayers may be helping poor kids (he/she also ASSuMEs that they have playstations and skateboards too), but we hear no mention of this person's outrage at the taxpayer-funded giveaways to corporations, such as the oil industry and the various corporate rip-off artists who are supposed to be rebuilding Iraq, but are instead lining their pockets while doing substandard work. What a double-standard hypocrite! Anything other than the status quo to this poster is socialized medicine. I say take the money from these undeserving, corporate thugs and let's help some children who are a lot more deserving.

Posted by Dravur on September 12, 2007 10:53 AMIf you can't pay for 'em, don't have 'em. There is this fabulous invention - it's called birth control. And please don't tell me it is not reliable. When used properly the pill is 99%+ effective. You're a single mother/father with 3 or 4 kids to raise? How is that my responsibility?

Posted by Coco on September 12, 2007 11:39 AMWhy is ti that neocons bitch and complain about anything that has to do with socialize medicine in america and that people need to be responsible for standing on their own two feet. They say it shouldn't be the tax payers job to pay for their healthcare. But they argue that we should be sending billions to Iraq to rebuild and give medical care to every Iraq citizen. I guess it's ok to have socialized medicine in Iraq. And our troops are over there dieing doing what they are not capible to do. And today I read that Iraq refugees are coming to colorado. Why aren't they over there rebuilding their own country. But that would mean Haliburton wouldn't be able to make billions doing it. Cons you all need to be a little more consistant with your believes.
Posted by larrymc on September 12, 2007 12:28 PMyes darry we are consistant in our beliefs and they amount to the fact that you are a moron and really should get a job.
BTW your true love billie c gave Haliburton a no bid contract when he was in office as they were the best company at what they do. when they wanted to move out of the US it was all of you liberals who started to cry because you couldnt count on all their millions in taxes coming in.
Will illegals bankrupt this program, too?
Posted by c on September 12, 2007 03:58 PMHey Mr.coward 1:44pm that don't have the balls to give your name I have a job and a damn good one. But why won't you answer why you support Socialized Medicine for people in Iraq who hates us but against it here. Are you an american hater?
