MoveOn.org’s ad
Thursday, September 27 at 10:41 AM

Tod Gilmore of Parker writes:

The Senate will vote today to condemn Moveon.org’s ad calling General David H. Petraeus General Betray Us.
I believe this Senate will pass S.AMDT.2808 condeming “personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus” Is this the America that our forefathers created? An America where it is not OK to speak out, where putting on a military uniform automatically shields you from criticism? Or is the America Mr. Bush and the Neo-cons have dreamed about.
Even on the face of a new CBS polled that showed 68% of Americans want the troop levels decreased or pulled out completely this Senate has done nothing to help our troops, to bring the troops home or to stand up to Mr. Bush. But now they have the nerve to condemn an organization because Moveon.org had the nerve to stand up to Mr. Bush and the neo-cons.
Please remember General Petraeus was hand picked by Mr. Bush, and the general’s report to Congress was written by the White House. Remember the last general to deliver a white house written report? General Colin Powell, how much credibility does he have now?

Condemning an ad,

I recently recall a country that got so upset about a recent cartoon depicting their relgious icon that they wanted people killed. It was an outrage to them, but thank god that could never happen in America, We with free speech would never take so much time and energy to condemn something a s silly as playing with a name. Could you imagine how upset they would be if they made commercials calling a decorated vietnam vet a liar and triator, the outrage would be unbelievable, OH wait that did happen but the troop loving Con's supported it. Nevermind!!!

Posted by Karl Cheney on September 27, 2007 01:53 PM

Karl baby; you forgot the tag line after - "...calling a decorated vietnam vet a liar and triator..." -- because he was one. He put himself in for most of his medals, including a splinter in the finger..real heroic indeed.

Posted by on September 27, 2007 01:58 PM

We remember but you should also be sure to remember, even after the Senate gave their so coveted "advise and consent" unanimous approval for the pick.

They trash the guy for delivering exactly what they asked him to.

But hey they love active military, and "support the troops but don't support the mission"...

Guess they're practicing tough love...

Posted by on September 27, 2007 02:06 PM

first off, the ad " calling a decorated vietnam vet a liar and triator" never did this. it only called into question his ability to lead and his voting record (this is what people have to "attack" when running against incumbents). do some research.

next, what the ad in the times did was nothing short of defamation, ie. libel.

Posted by on September 27, 2007 02:15 PM

Oh I'm sorry,

I forgot that it was really easy to give yourself medals in the US military. And if you run against Bush even McCain was called a liar and a traitor. I know that none of those medals mean anything because you can just give them to yourself. And I'm sure those of you who slam Kerry's volunteer service in Vietnam were right there with him and have personal accounts right, I mean you wouldn't just believe what other people told you would you?

Posted by Karl Cheney on September 27, 2007 02:19 PM

ps. if you're talking about kerry sorry.

i was referencing Max Cleland

Posted by on September 27, 2007 02:21 PM

Your letter is a self-serving illustration of contempt for America and the men and women who died for your freedom.

MoveOn is short for Move On From the Clinton Scandals...MOFTCS.org just doesn't work.

And Monica was hand-picked by Bill...so what?

Posted by Hank on September 27, 2007 03:12 PM

The moveon.org ad attacked a man who is worthy of respect regardless if you agree with the war or not (remember, he was unanimously approved by Congress) and only those who cannot discern between personal attacks and political motivations seem to agree with it. Whining that "Republicans do it too" and citing the Cleland example is just admitting that it was wrong and pointing fingers as something equally disgraceful to justify it.

tod,C.B.S polls are not reliable because they sample idiots like yourself.I agree with you this liberal dominated congress hasn't done anything to support our troops but have committed treason supporting the terrorist like moveon.org.These lowlife corrupt liberals lie to the ignorant like yourself to take advantage of the mentally challenge like karl cheney.

Posted by KW on September 27, 2007 04:42 PM

treason my butt, Keith! You consider yourself the only patriot, but don't allow for free speech, unless it means that YOU can call people all the nasty juvenile names your limited intelligence can come up with. No self respecting conservative would claim someone like you, You have been told many times that you are an idiot, Keith, and you continue to reinforce that idea every time you post. You are simply PITIFUL, and an embarassment ! You certainly don't speak for real conservatives, and please don't pretend to.!.

Our military has been hijacked by fascists,
but Americans are too blinded by the need to "support the troops" they can't
see it.
There is more tax dollars going to corporate war-profiteers than to our troops, and unfortunately, it's the troops who pay the
price. In sub-standard food to ill-equiped vehicles courtesy of Haliburton, Blackwater, KBR etc. etc. etc.
Until an honest accounting of our spending is done, the public won't know either.

A neo-con coup has taken place, and will not be revealed till their objectives are met.
May God help America

"Even on the face of a new CBS polled that showed 68% of Americans want the troop levels decreased or pulled out completely this Senate has done nothing to help our troops, to bring the troops home or to stand up to Mr. Bush."

a) What does this have to do with slandering and insulting an honorable man?

b) I want the troop numbers decreased too. That is, I want them decreased when the mission is complete.

"Please remember General Petraeus was hand picked by Mr. Bush, "

Wasn't he also approved by majority Democrat Senate?

Posted by John II on September 27, 2007 05:51 PM

Keith,

you always make me laugh and smile when you constantly call people, ignorant, stupid, and child left behind. Your bad spelling, punctuation and grammar just crack me up. I enjoy you making your points for us and I can't believe there are 30% of the popul;ation out there just like you!!

Posted by Karl Cheney on September 27, 2007 05:56 PM

Another thing...

That ad was created before General Petraeus delivered his report. So, the left had already made a strategic decision to combat any good news about the war by attempting to diminish the character of a fine General before he even had a chance to deliver the report.

Posted by John II on September 27, 2007 05:57 PM

What a tremendous WASTE of time for our congressional leaders. dont they have a million other more important issues to be worrying about then " condeming " a worthless poinless ad that has nothing to do with the issues at hand?

"dont they have a million other more important issues to be worrying about then " condeming " a worthless poinless ad that has nothing to do with the issues at hand?"
Don't you realize that our congress specializes in squandering time so that they don't have to do anything of substance to upset their masters? Posted by on September 27, 2007 07:22 PM

Karl,
what makes me laugh even more is when people like you point to other’s “bad spelling, punctuation and grammar”, than in the next sentence you say “popul;ation “ – so your figure is wrong, make that 31% with you included.

"I believe this Senate will pass S.AMDT.2808 condeming 'personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus'."

And we all know how much that will accomplish.

Posted by on September 27, 2007 09:37 PM

Fresh,

I regret to state I agree. Let them do something. Potty mouth training for both sides would be a good start.

Do you suppose if we decided to pay them on the results of their work we'd get anything better?

Scratch that.

A friend and I, after drinking the better part of a bottle of Jim Bean with a grape Kook Aid Mixer (Hey we were in college and all the finals except Calculus were over. We were too broke to buy a soda at the pop machine.), came up with a totally impossible idea to solve all the budget problems and fighting. You just divide the money equally between the Congress and the Senate then divide each half by the number of representatives in each house. Let each one divide up the money as desired and keep the rest. No need to pass bills just send checks.
Must have been the Kool Aid.

When you live in Candyland, you don't have to be nice to honorable people. You especially don't have to be a grown up.

Chains of command and structure have no place in Candyland. We do what we feel when we feel like doing it.

In Candyland individual rights trump everything, even the right of Candyland to defend its self from Miseryland.

Remember. NO ADULTS in Candyland!
Mean old generals take heed!

"...Potty mouth training for both sides would be a good start."

There's not enough lye soap in the metro area to wash out the potty mouths is you include those needing it from both the left and the right!

But, it's a great idea...

Is the Right outraged that Rush Limbaugh on Thursday called those in our military who do not agree with Iraq 'phoney soldiers' ? Will the same Republican Congressmen be pushing another resolution to condemn and censure Limbaugh for attacking the soldiers who are actually fighting in Iraq for cowards like Rush who never served in the military? Funny, we are fighting in Iraq to give the Iraqis the freedoms we have yet Limbaugh will not allow our own soldiers to voice their opinions ( if they differ with his drug-induced babblings)?

Posted by Rush is pus on September 28, 2007 07:20 AM

Well I guess even drug addicted talking heads like Rush Limbaugh have free speech, regardless of how tasteless that free speech is, that's what us liberals want for everyone, even cretins like Rush, Hannity and Coulter

Posted by Free Speech on September 28, 2007 07:33 AM

It sure has distracated people from what he said in his report. Does anyone really believe what he said?

Posted by Curious on September 28, 2007 07:50 AM

The CBS poll the letter writer cited is nonsense.

If the poll asked , Do you favor the troops being pulled out of Iraq or a decrease of some troops in the same poll.
How many of the 68% wanted all the troops out of Iraq?
How many of the 68% wanted just some troops levels decreased?

These are two very seperate questions rolled into one poll.

The poll is bogus.

Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on September 28, 2007 07:53 AM

Can I get an AMEN!:--

Polls can be manipulated to get the results you are seeking by how you phrase the questions. Most polls, whether they by by the right or the left are subjective and only "beneficial" to those who were either looking for those results; or, for those whose pre-held positions are supported by the results.

Very few polls are truly objective once you study the actual questions used.

Curious,

He lost my trust in his opening paragraph when he stated that these were his own words.

Posted by leftside on September 28, 2007 08:44 AM

Honor, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility! What ever happened to these things? The "OFFICE" that Bush holdS deserves respect whether you agree with him or not. If you don't agree with him there are elections. Oh yeah, you guy's lost those.

Good personal values go a long way. Throwing your medals away is not a good personal value. Lying is not a good value either. Max Cleland never had his patriotism questioned and anyone who says so is either a liar or has never seen the add and is just parroting what others have told them to think. which is the Hallmark of lefties after all. Don't confuse them with any truth, they know what they believe.

Show some class and maturity! You act like truculent children.

Letter writer Tod Gilmore is another Democrat working hard to help the terrorists win the war.He tries to act like he is a good American but we know like all Democrats he is just using the words right to "speak out" to cover his hatred of the US.He only wants the "freedoms" that he thinks will help our enemies. This is the new Democrat party.

Posted by An American on September 28, 2007 10:49 AM

VB,

Would this be the same respect your side showed Bill Clinton?

Posted by leftside on September 28, 2007 11:54 AM

The left are a bunch of back-stabbing traitors, as represented by MoveOn's ad.

Posted by on September 28, 2007 12:56 PM

The Right are a bunch of back-stabbing traitors, as represented by Rush Limbaugh's attack on the military, calling our servicemen Phoney Soldiers. I say that Rush and his Conservative hypocrits are Phony Americans.

Posted by Amen on September 28, 2007 01:33 PM

As you can see the Democrats are trying to change the subject about their support for the terrorists. They are trying to say that they are just questioning the President. We know the truth that they are giving aid and comfort to the terrorists.Everything they say is to tear down our country and help the terrorists. They do not care if our soldiers die ,in fact ,they use their bodies as tools to help their effort to help the terrorists. They give encouragement to the enemy to fight on because they hate the US.This is true and normal people know it!! Some Democrats are now trying to lie about what Rush said in order to take the spotlight off them. This will not work because the people can listen to Rush and get the truth. It is not like it use to be where the the liberal Democrat controlled media could lie and get away with it.You Democrats have to realize we have other places to go for information that will tell the people about your lies.

Posted by An American on September 28, 2007 01:57 PM

So America is stuck for the next 16 months treading water in Iraq without a strategy for victory (much less the downgraded goal of 'success' that Bush most recently asserts) while we wait for the next president to make some/any change in our drifting ad hoc strategy?

And all folks can do is call each other names? Even rabid Iraq-war boosters must admit that there is no cohesive strategy in place at the moment, beyond simply reacting and putting the best spin on events beyond America's control.

And somehow it is unpatriotic to complain about 16 more months of this passive/impotent military strategy in the midst of what is supposed to be an important war?

Incredible how fragile of character these self-characterized patriotic types are, at the very time when we could use solid leadership of our country.

Posted by on September 28, 2007 02:04 PM

Cons have nothing left to boast about so they whine.
Bush, Cheney, Rove et al have screwed us by lying us into the quagmire formally known as Iraq . And laughing all the way to the bank
At the added expense of our troops lives and their families suffering.
The pity is, they don't give a damn about them as long as they get thost war-welfare checks made out to Haliburton, KBR , Raytheon, GE, etc. etc.
Until the Democrats find some backbone and impeach these bastards it's not going to change.
The Republicu*ts have helped in the rape,
It's time to hold all parties responsible for their actions, as well as inactions.

Posted by dmz on September 28, 2007 06:31 PM

Posted by An American on September 29, 2007 09:17 AM

Do the Democrats ever say anything bad about the terrorists? No!! Who do they attack? Our soldiers and the people that are fighting the terrorists. It is common sense the Democrats want the terrorists to win because they hate the US.

That muffled sound you hear is An American with his head up his ass once again. The Republicans favorite rightwing coward, fighting the war in iraq from his livingroom in Denver. Amazing how a man with a basement full of guns is too chicken to enlist and use them on the enemy. An American is just another gutless chickenhawk.
