Paying for the war in Iraq
With the Iraq war cost at $567 billion and U. S. employment at 153 million, the simplest way to pay for the cost of the Iraq war is to have each jobholder send a check to the U. S. Treasury in the amount of $3,700.00.

There you go keith write the check or you are an america hater and terroist lover like you call everyone that is against this war.
Posted by larrymc on September 11, 2007 02:34 PMif that is all i had to pay in income taxes to the irs I would in a heart beat. I was forced to pay 7 times that amount.

Did you use an Interstate highway last year or did you make your money without leaving your house?
If the only thing you want to pay for is war toys then you are one sick puppy. As citizens of a developed country we share the costs of maintaining a civil society. If you are so unAmerican that you don't want to live in a civil society then move to Baghdad. There you only have to pay protection to the warlords. What a traitor.

I see that a couple of our own loony left droolers, wessy boy and no reality check larrymc have jumped in to provide their canned and negative value talking points from moveon.org.
Posted by on September 11, 2007 04:04 PMWe should have just given $47,000 to every man, woman and child in iraq and called it even.
Posted by Stan Broyles on September 11, 2007 04:05 PMI'll pay $3,700. No problem. Just cancel my capital gains tax, my Social Security tax, my Medicare/Medicaid tax and every other illegal tax I am forced to pay.
Posted by John II on September 11, 2007 06:05 PMHow can you even complain about.the cost of this war on the aniversry of 9/11 when iraq attacked us and our. freedoms. these libral trators should heve been in the planes flown. into the bildings by the Iraqi's

No, Bush has figured out the truly simplest way to pay for the cost of the war: charge it, and let the next sucker pay the tab.
Posted by on September 11, 2007 06:39 PMAs did every other administration since WWII.
The original poster has a novel idea. True leadership calls for individual sacrifice and leading by example.
Feel free to send your check first...
Posted by on September 11, 2007 06:55 PM The best way to honor the victims of 9/11 is to think for yourself.
This IS still the United States of America, after all.
Bush will get his. if not in this life, then in hell.
Ya gotta have faith, but Ya gotta pay attention, too.
And not let the bastards win.
dmz,
You are a paranoid idiot. You traitorous libs will get yours too, real Americans wont forget what youre doing, EVER!

From An American to z, we got them all here folks.
Posted by Sharon B. on September 11, 2007 10:23 PMhow is that republicans who are always horrified at taxes dont mind the 567 billion dollar that attacking Iraq has cost us? do they think the money is going to come from donations?
Posted by Taxman on September 12, 2007 06:53 AMHow about we present the Iraq government a bill for 560 billion dollars since this war is for their benefit. Tax money, American money, should not be used...use the Iraqi oil money!
Posted by Money on September 12, 2007 06:55 AMMoney,Good idea but the liberals will be against it.They don't believe that people should pay there own way.
Posted by Keith on September 12, 2007 07:54 AMSharon B,
Thanks for your concern, but I'm not worriied about being on a fascist coward's list.
They, like their leader ,like to huff, puff, and wear a big codpiece, but in the end, they cut and run.
And "accomplish" nothing.
But why do good Americans even listen to these liars anymore?
Oh , of course,Faux news, their holy grail of truth.
The corrupt have swiped the power for the last 6 years, but the jig is up.
These rants are just too idiotic to warrant a reply. Liberals are not traitors/terrorists. Just people who believe differing views. What we really need is tolerance as taught in the Bible.

You miss the point my man. Conservatives hate any government action that actually benefits our nation but love destroying things. This is why they enjoy the destruction of Iraq whatever the cost. They are the ultimate terrorists who yearn to drop "The Bomb" on those heathens. This is their idea of diplomacy: pure terror. Never mind that they could be wrong and end up murdering thousands of innocent people. They love spending when it is to destroy things but ask them to pay for better schools, roads and fair elections well then your SOL my man. They can't stand building a better country here at home. That would weaken their argument that our government is evil. What a bunch of craven traitors.

Posted by JIm on September 12, 2007 10:12 AMJust replace the designation of "Rome" with "America" and see if the following comments aren't applicable...
There is some question if Marcus Tullius Cicero did or didn’t say, “The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt…” However, whoever said it was spot on.
Posted by darfor on September 12, 2007 11:16 AMI believe the war is a good idea as long as I don't have to pay any taxes to pay for it. Also, so long as me or my family won't have to actually go and fight. As Rush has told me, "YOU have nothing to worry about, this isn't costing you anything"

George, had that funding mechanism been in the Iraq War Resolution, i'd bet you dollars to donuts we would not be in that country today.
I sure can't afford to pay that.
Posted by Grim Reefer on September 12, 2007 11:28 AMI can't afford it either Grim. Yet the amount I pay the IRS each year is nearly three times that amount.
We definitely need some tax relief.
Posted by KW on September 12, 2007 12:12 PMLet's see, the War on Poverty is now pushing $6 trillion. That's about $20,000 per head and we still have the same old problems with no exit strategy. Looks like the war on terror has been a relative bargain. And unlike the SURGE in welfare, the SURGE against terrorism is working!

You've been drinking too much Surge Hank. Before we had killed Saddam Hussein, Sunni and Shia lived in the same neighborhoods. Now these mixed neighborhoods no longer exist. For 12 billion dollars a month I would hope that our military forces could secure and reduce violence in a small country but do you are extraordinarily simplistic if you believe that this escalation has reduced tensions between the ethnic groups and will one day lead to happy reconciliation. It is like the dog that has gotten into the chicken coop and killed a chicken. They will always have the sweet taste of blood in their mouth from then on. In the last two years, death squads on both sides have tortured people with electric drills then had them strangled to death. Do you really believe that these death squads want to get along with each other because of The Surge? The ethnic cleansing is just about complete across Iraq so what we can expect is a soft partition and the combatants will then go after each others enclaves as soon as we leave. The Iraqis who could make a difference have fled the country and are now living in Jordon or Syria. Do you really expect that they will suddenly come back because of The Surge. What tragic stupidity The Surge supporters dwell in.
As far as the War on Poverty, that is 60's program that was pretty much gutted by the Bush Administration. I'd like to see where you got your 6 trillion number. If you are talking about our social programs then I guess feeding the hungry and helping them with their health care needs is a failure to you. What an uncompassionate conservative. You war lovers have never cared about the poor. Bombs away boys.
