Petty GOP divisive
Thursday, September 27 at 12:01 AM

So, Republicans have a memo telling them not to mention Gov. Bill Ritter by name (“Elephants able to forget/Ritter speech led to GOP advice: Ignore his name,” Sept. 15).
Isn’t that a bit petty? How does that help their constituents? House Speaker Andrew Romanoff hit the nail on the head when he said “ ... They’re spending more time pointing fingers and picking fights than solving problems.”
Why do Republicans go out of their way to be so divisive?

Joe - it's because, when reduced to their essence as they have now been, that's all they've got. Trolling for gay sex, pedophilia, bigger government and massive deficeits - it's not your father's GOP.

Yeah, Liam; the Democrat heroes are at least honest, aren't they?

On Sept. 23, on "Fox News Sunday," Clinton said that she has “fought hard” for body armor . . .” She added, “I’ve stood with my colleagues to fight hard for armored vehicles because we knew that they needed additional protection in Iraq and they weren’t getting it.”

Yet last May, Clinton voted against the emergency supplemental bill to provide $1.6 billion for body armor, including advanced combat helmets; $2.4 billion to help protect against improvised explosive devices; and $3 billion for mine-resistant, ambush protected vehicles.

Here's some more Democratic "honesty" to go with Anon 07:o6 AM

Clinton’s hypocrisy have any limits. When asked about the recent MoveOn.org ad suggesting that Gen. David Petraeus has betrayed the country, Clinton on "Meet the Press" on Sept. 23 called for an end to such attacks. “I don’t condone anything like that, and I have voted against those who would impugn the patriotism and the service of the people who wear the uniform of our country,” she said.

Yet three days earlier, Clinton had voted against a Senate resolution to condemn the MoveOn.org ad. Her closest competitor, Sen. Barack Obama, voted earlier that day but conveniently missed the vote condemning the ad.

At a hearing on Sept. 11, Clinton told Gen. Petraeus that “the reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.”

In making that accusation, Clinton aptly described what our own reaction should be to her serial dissembling. If any other job candidate had such a record, only a fool would hire the applicant. If Hillary Clinton becomes the Democratic presidential candidate in 2008, it will say as much about us as about her.

HANOVER, N.H. — The leading Democratic White House hopefuls conceded Wednesday night they cannot guarantee to pull all U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the end of the next presidential term in 2013.

"I think it's hard to project four years from now," said Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the opening moments of a campaign debate in the nation's first primary state.

"It is very difficult to know what we're going to be inheriting," added Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

"I cannot make that commitment," said former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

The Repukes are sure up in arms about the Moveon ad. Where were they when Kerry was swift boated and Cleland was dragged throught the mud?

To answer the letter writer's question:

As has been shown here on this website for a long time - especially by the foremost spokes-persons for Republicanism/"conservatism", "AnAmerican" and his confreres and claque - they have nothing else to do, and nothing better to offer. They are totally devoid of any constructive ideas, on any subject whatsoever; and demonstrate their total lack of, and contempt for, reason, judgment, discussion, and sensible exchange of thought by their juvenile rant, and potty-mouth insults directed towards all and sundry who have shown them for what they are. That IS Republicanism/"conservatism" today.

To issue a memo instructing their members not to use someone's name is typical of political parties. They get to tell other people what to do. This is not a conservative or liberal value. It is a party value.

curious 7:26...

The difference is Kerry, Cleland, Murtha, McCain, are all "former" military figures who chose to enter the political arena. General Petraeus is active military and NOT a political figure. He delivered the exact report they all requested when they approved him unanimously. Not a single vote against. Including Clinton and Obama, Kerry was out having botox or something i guess that day, because he didn't vote.

Don't kill the messenger just because you don't like the message...

CURIOUS,
PLEASE describe how Cleland was "drug thorugh the mud" as you put it, for showing his voting record in a political ad?
Also, how can that be questioning his "patriotism" as your leaders at Moveon.org say was done?
Have you even seen or listened to the ad? If not, (and I doubt you did because you would have never said something so stupid as that if you had) here is your opportunity.

Watch it and then tell me how and where in that ad he was drug through the mud or even compared to Osama Bin Ladin as your nut job talkers are telling you.

Did moveon (Soros) serve in Iraq with Petraeus so they (he) could dispute the claims made by the General?

No.

So to compare "betrayus" to the swiftboat ordeal doesn't wash.

In addition, the NY Times refused to run the swiftboat ad against Kerry so any comparison would be quite the stretch.

Republicans hate everybody unless they are white christian. Need proof? Look at their members.

Posted by rick on September 28, 2007 06:56 PM

Petraus became political when the white house wrote his report for him and Petraus allowed it.
