I hold exception to Bush’s plan for pulling 30,000 American troops from Iraq by July 2008. It is a token and a political ploy.
All he is doing is playing for time in order to get his own party members off his back while at the same time keeping America’s Military Might acting like hired security guards for Big Oil. These guys don’t give a flip about anybody else, all they have in their sight is their own agenda. And I can tell you, it has nothing to do with spreading thick layers of democracy all over deserts filled with oil.
I call ‘Shenanigans’ on this Administration for the meager bone it is trying to throw out in order to make 51-52% of the American public happier about the war in Iraq. But I think we can safely say that most Americans, even a few who drank the conservative cool-aid, no longer believes anything this Administration says without further investigation and reflection. See, fool me once, shame on you. Fool you twice, shame on me... wait, how does that go? Anyway, this Administration doesn’t get to have a ‘do-over’ with this war. They don’t get to keep their war and send a pittance of our guys and gals back home. This war needs to end. It isn’t for anybody’s benefit at this stage, not the Iraqis and not our Armed Forces. The only winners in this situation have been Big Oil, who got to waltz off with 80% of Iraqi crude, basically all the fields that hadn’t already been tapped by the Iraqi nationalized oil system when America invaded Iraq.
30,000 troops isn’t enough to send home, Mr. President. They all need to come home. America is done with your stupid war. And we want our guys and gals home instead of dying over in those oil-drenched deserts.

Bush is pretending he did something. Add 30,000 troops in the summer, bring them home next summer. Hoping no one notices we have the same numbetr of troops there as we did before ( well the Republicans won't notice, so it sorta works).

It actually gets better than that.

When the surge was originally discussed, we were talking about 20,000 -22,500 troops. But that didn't count the support staff (Petraeus's words), so really we needed 30,000-35,000.

Now, we're talking about reducing to the "pre-surge" levels. But wait! About a day after this plan was announced, we learned that the "support staff" will still be there, so we would only be pulling out about 22,500 troops. But wait! A couple days after that, we learned that we could only pull out the 22,500 troops next July, only 500 would come home in January. Even that proved too optimistic, though, as we learned towards the end of last week. Now, we could possibly if everything we predict happens the way we think it will remove 2 batallions, which really are only about 13,000 troops, and that's only if a very, very specific set of criterion are met.

Poof! And the levels of troops in Iraq remain unchanged, through no fault of this stalwart, upstanding administration and its lackey general, and in the summer of 08 we will get the good news that things in Iraq are really looking very promising, and the outcome of the whole war will depend on us not withdrawing, because let's face it, withdrawing means defeat!

Nobody's coming home anytime soon. By 2030 I fully expect to see some 35,000 U.S. troops in Iraq. And with Syria and Iran holding the middle east hostage, why should Iraq be any different from S. Korea.

I see the Republicans decided to show their Troop support by killing the bill that would have given the Troops over there some relief. Tell me again how Republicans support the troops? is it to keep them there indefintely with no relief from combat?

They want failure there so they will have success here in 2008 That is the bottom line. Politics over country. Don;t get me wrong, Thr republicans are just as much to blame for the shameful games being played. At least they don't bend over to the likes of a Moveon.org and their supporters on the very radical left of left fringe.

wondering you should read the bill as it was crafted almost as moronic as you are. It would have depleated the ready troops by the amount of time of they were to receive. a year for a year
