Response to “Flatlanders”
Wednesday, September 26 at 1:07 PM

Steve Grupe of Denver writes:

Enough of the smug, elitist Colorado attitudes once again rearing their ugly head in Deb Acord’s “On Colorado” column.
She should consider:
Flip-Flop people are everywhere (they happen to be a fashion trend)
Flatlanders living in Colorado are everywhere – they far outnumber “Peaksters” (try polling your fellow residents regarding their native states)
The dollars spent by those FFP in your idyllic mountain town (indeed, throughout Colorado) allow you lower property taxes, cheaper auto registration, more public services, better highways, more restaurants and bars, and in many cases – your very “reason to be” – and they allow you to keep your rarefied nose higher in the air the rest of the year when you’re not condescending to the FFP.
Get a clue, Coloradans.

Wow, you like Deb have taken it upon your self to paint many people with your broad brush. I am a fourth generation native and I have never decried anyone from another state. I welcome all to come and view the magisty of the rockies. Do not take the twisted view of one person as the response of many from this state. From a great-grandfather who was a blacksmith, to a grandfather who knew no one that was not a friend, my family has welcomed all to this state. Try to remember, that we are all 'non-native' to this state unless we are of native american background.

well said Mickey as i am Native American i was not born in Colorado i was born in Texas and like all living things on this planet, you cannot choose where you are born but you can choose where you live, I live in America where it is my right to live anywhere i chooose, these "native" Coloradans who think that they own the states and get to pick and choose who lives here need to do a little research on their family back grounds to see just where they come from. i have lived in this state off and on for the last 16 years as i have lived just about every state in the lower 48 and i have never met a friendlier state than Colorado until you tell them your not native, it is just plain discrimination.

And Hoimaha is my real name (spirit of cold, rain and snow)

Was the writer serious? An elite guide to Colorado sounds like a joke.

I`m third generation and my grampa was a carny man, among other things. He helped build the Moffat Tunnel.

My name is a valley near Jerusalem and a flower.
