Too little done for devastated coast
Monday, September 10 at 12:01 AM

I wore a wristband the other night, Aug. 29 to be exact. You know, like the one by Lance Armstrong that says “Live Strong.” I don’t usually wear these wristbands. The one I wore is in the Mardi Gras colors of green, purple and yellow. It says “Renew – Rebuild – Reunite.” Some people asked what it was, most didn’t. That’s OK.
What isn’t OK is the way our current president continues to use New Orleans and the affected area of the Gulf Coast as a backdrop for photographic opportunities. Most recently, the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
I have relatives in Louisiana and Mississippi. Some were displaced by this natural disaster and some lost their homes. Little has been done for much of the affected area. So much chest-beating by this president with not a lot to show! Perhaps he should wear a red wristband to signify the embarrassment of this administration for poor action before, during and since the hurricane that simply says “Shame – Shame – Shame.”

Instead of playing politics R. Fergie. maybe you and your relatives need to look a little closer to home. What has happened to all those millions that louisianna has recieved? Why is Mayor Nagin awarding contracts to out of state contractors who employe ILLEGALS instead of locals.

No instead of looking at where the trus problem lies, you like many would rather blame the current administration. Would you be blaming Kerry or Gore if they had been elected?

On these types of flagerant corruption, party affiliation aside. The questions and the investigations ned to be focused on those who are actually the thieves and cheaters. Not targets of political poor sportsmanship.

well fergie I sugguest you go down there and help them out. why are they waiting for a government hand out? why is only the president the one you blame? why not the local crooks, i mean politicans, in louisiana?
the gao has already found over a billion dollars in a fraud case down there but you dont mention that. I guess the mardi gras colors really mean that someone else has to fix this for us as we have been told for years that the government is responsible for taking care of all of our needs.
maybe while they wait for their next government check, on the first of each month, they could start to rebuild the levee's that cause the most damage when they gave way.

$126 billion and still counting, it makes absolutely no sense to "Renew-Rebuild and Reunite" a costal town built below sea level that is just waiting for the next big disaster. And it looks like the same old incompetent NO politics is ready to facilitate the next tsunami just like they did the last one. Finally, the folks down there are still walking over the debris left behind some 2 years ago, they are stepping over the garbage as easily as NYC subway riders step over dead bodies.

Too much wasted money, too much of the same old incompetent and re-elected local politics and not enough effort by its citizens. SHAME...SHAME...SHAME on NO. Plow the Big Easy under, America is weary of hearing about this stale and recycled self-inflicted tale of woe.

We can't afford to fix NO because we are spending all of our money in Iraq

Too much has already been done down there. It's time to cut and run.

Posted by Keith on September 10, 2007 08:20 AM

its time to get out as we cant win in NO.

Truth to power,

You mean we spent all our money on Iraq except for the $126 billion we gave to rebuilding efforts. Oh, and I'm sure you also meant to include the $700 billion we spend on government heath care. And the $80 billion spent on Dept. of Education. Oh, and the $50 billion spent on Housing and Urban Development. Also, let's not forget the $100 billion spent on the Dept. of Agriculture. And, the $75 billion spent on the Dept. of Transportation. Oh, and let's not forget $80 billion for Veterans Affairs. And another $80 billion for the Dept. of Homeland Security.

But, yes, aside from those expenses, you're correct; we spend all of our money on Iraq. Oh, except for the $65 billion that goes to the Office of Personnel Management.

The real problem for the Gulf Coast and NOLA, is the inept cowards that comprise the Congressional Black Caucus - CBC (comical blacks in congress). I am ashamed to be a member of this sorry tribe. 1500 of my brothers and sisters were GOP waterboarded and drowned, and the CBC are hiding under their desks like scenes out of "ROOTS" , "GONE with the WIND", and "Mandingo".

The quickest way to accelerate construction in NOLA, is to prosecute (court martial) the white US Army of Corps of Engineers, that were responsible and accountable for the maintenance of NOLA's pumping and levee control systesm. These systems catastrophically failed, (lack of army oversight) because corrput federal gov't contracts failed to conduct OEM prescribed preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance actons. Secondly, the corrput contracts should also be charged with 1500 counts of criminal negligence, resulting in deaths.

Uncle Obama and his posse stood silent, while Iraqis and Japanese were given swift justice. Our troops who recently murdered Iraqi citizens are being prosecuted. The Navy officers accountable and responsible for the drowning deaths of 9 Japanese students, are long-gone.

GOP waterboarding have reached the shores of the Rockies. Black Denver Water wroker, Shawn Patilla, was killed as a result of a broken neck and drowning, while he was reckless making repairs to a pipe and valve which were under 90 p.s.i. Shawn was oredered to do this illegal OSHA repair by Chips Barry, Manager, Denver Water. Barry wanted watrer pressure restorded ASAP to tothe white residents in this affected white "toney" neighborhood.

USDOL-OSHA Secy. Chao, in violation of federal law, delegated her investigation into Shawn's death to Barry (GOP donor). Barry "deiced" a black hourly wage foreman was accountable and responsible for Shawn's death. Silly me! I thought Barry was the sole person within Denver Water, for all of Denver Water's employees, regardless of their color. Bush, Chao, Gates, and USAG Gonzo, just love drowning black folks.
