Please put me on the mailing list for Deb Acord’s next book, An Elitist’s Guide to Who Is Suited to Visit Colorado. I am sure it will be a best-seller in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Acord’s Spotlight column of Sept. 11, “So long, flatlanders in flip-flops,” was unkind and arrogant. I am sure she did not take two seconds to smile nicely at the visitors she used for fodder in that column or to offer some other suggestions of what they might enjoy during their stay. But that is probably because she already knew they could not afford the best restaurants and did not come equipped with mountain bikes.
When did Colorado become so elitist? I shudder to think how much ill will this column will cause when it leaves our state and finds its way through Google to the rest of the country.
Nice going, Ms. Acord.

I have to agree with Michele - I found this article to be not only elitist, but insulting to those that may come to visit from somewhere other than Ms. Acord's small mountain town. As a native Coloradoan, who does indeed live in the 'flatlands' of our state, I've got to wonder where she's really from originally. Most folks in our state are not so selfish as to deny others the right to come and enjoy our mountains, in whatever manner they choose to.
Ms. Acord would do well to realize that she and her friends are not the only people who 'matter', and to lose the attitude.
Posted by Gail Lindsey on September 21, 2007 12:03 PMHow abut bringing back that really sharp bumper-sticker that read: "Stop Californicating Colorado"?
Would that help save a little of our senic wilderness? Or even manage to give some impetus to thoughts on how to save our own limited water supply, and support our farmers, who are being denied irrigation rights?
Posted by Old Grouch on September 21, 2007 12:46 PMOG, you're not even on topic. The article was about tourists on vacation, not people moving permanently into Colorado.
Posted by sufferingfromfools on September 21, 2007 01:06 PMI took a vacation to Colorado 34 years ago and forgot to go back home. Now, Colorado is home.
Posted by Stan Broyles on September 21, 2007 03:58 PMOh...YES! Please put my name on that exclusive e-mail list for Deb's new book, An Elitist’s Guide to Who Is Suited to Visit Colorado (surely to be a NY Times Bestseller), for I simply MUST know more helpful hints from her on how to keep up my appearances here as a Colorado Springs citizen and NEVER to be confused as one of those nasty flatlanders (EWWWWW!). I've already thrown away all my flip flops (check), and my fannypacks (check), but I'm not really sure what to do with my camera straps. I guess I'll just have to wait until her book comes out.
Posted by Dianneresidentandtourist on September 21, 2007 05:12 PMMs. Acord has obviously succumbed to the disease known as snob-a-beak-eliteus syndrome. Better known as "loooong nose attitude sickness"
Being a Colorado native I say give Acords face the Denver Boot she needs something to impede running off at the mouth!
