War in Iraq
Wednesday, September 12 at 11:46 AM

John Ruckman of Lakewood writes:

George is at it again—his never ending PR campaign on the Iraq war went into full swing yesterday, in preparation for the report due next week, which, if honest is going to have to say that most areas have made only modest progress. It matters not what the situation really is on the ground (chaos, more and more refugees, no progress on oil output or electricity availability) or what the Iraqi government is failing to do (very little based on the published goals status), the only thing important to him is that his war keep going.
I’m not aware of any serious research or analysis that has been done by the administration as to what the best course really would be for our troops and for the long term improvement of the middle east. There is only one course for Bush—don’t stop or slow down for any reason, at least not until the election is over.
We must put someone in office that has some sense of objectivity and is willing to listen to experts on the issue. Our country is fast becoming subservient to this war and it’s huge costs—in tax money (now at over 469 billion dollars and growing daily) and lives, (nearly four thousand Americans and many, many thousands of Iraqis). And now Bush is asking for yet another 50 billion dollars in supplemental budgeting this year and still has no idea where he is going to get the troops to keep the war going after this fall when many troops will be past their time to come home.

READER COMMENTS

Letter writer John Ruckman is obviously another US hating, coward Democrat trying to help the terrorists win the war.In fact if I remember correctly some of his talking points were the same ones Osama Bin Laden used in his recent speech.I wonder if the Democrats are sharing their talking points with Bin Laden or Bin Laden is writing the speeches for the Democrat party?

Mr. America- You must have noticed how at every critical juncture, Osama pops up on video to augment Bush's weak arguments. The two of them work hand-in-glove. Not surprising, since both of them are rich fundamentalist oil men.

An American,

Sir, you are a great American, and mega dittos as well!! I've heard CNN had a liberal crew record those videos for Osama, I know Keith has the facts on that! You are a traitor and a coward if you question any amount of money this great president needs to keep you safe. If he has to spent our collective last US dime fighting the terrorsists in Iraq we need to support him. I can't believe after 9/11 when Iraq aided and abbeded those terrorists to run planes into our buildings we would ever raise a question regarding the tactics and reasoning behind his steadfastness. War is always the best answer, put a boot in their ass no matter the cost.... If we have to start having a fire sale and sell everything in this country to keep up the good fight in Iraq then we should, if we don't spend ourselves into a third world country to keep this war going then the terrorists win....

When Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraq-NAM broke-out, the GOP broke for shopping malls, ski-slopes, college, etc. It blows my mind surrender monkeys, deafeatist, communist-siders, and draft dodgers like Delay, Frist, Lott, Owens, Mitt, Rudy, Brownback, phony-Fred, Allard, "nuke'em till they glow" Tancredo, Bush, lard-a$$es Cheney and Hastert, Boehner, etc., define what is un-American activities, patriotism, etc. Id it true Fred took a stroll through the "hood", like "Sperm'n Strom" did?

An American,Great factual post as always.karl cheney, another village idiot,a product of the lack of information,rmn.3% of gnp for this war compaired to 53% for WWII.The dems want to surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq and take away our constitution right to bear arms in this country. That makes sense.

An American and Keith have to be the same crier: There can't be two of the same mentality. What has been said of Keith is said of "An American," truly a blasphemy in using such a name.

An American,Facts are blasphemy to a liberal.

These are coming from the same people who think it was a good idea to only let the bin ladens fly after 9/11.

Keith that was a good point you made about the GNP but I do not think Democrats will understand Economics. If they do they will just lie about your point.Keith do you think the postings of the Democrats above are just because they are stupid or they are just trying to help the terrorists?I think their are a lot of people in the Democrat party that just hate what this country stands for but then there are a lot of stupid people in the Democrat party. Also I think the more we get the Democrats to post the more "normal" people will see them for what they are US haters and cowards.

Posted by An American on September 13, 2007 12:18 PM

Keith you are right. The Democrats want to disarm the US citizens and help the terrorists win the war.Does that mean they are cowards os US haters?

What's your real name, American?
No need to hide from us.
Y'know we're all free here.
And I bet you've never felt freer,
now that Saddam's been hanged.

Bush and Co. has always been a sneaky and secretive, so why should we believe him now. Like the boy who cried wolf, once you have lost the respect of the people, it is very difficult to regain it back.

A healthy distrust of the government and the ability to question it is AMERICAN VALUES! Mean spirited attacks, left or right, are not only low, but do nothing to encourage a thoughtful discussion of the actual issues.

Aside from the republican right who want the troops to stay, and the far left who want a sudden, complete withdrawal, most favor a incremental reduction of our forces. Reduce the troops to a training force and get them out of the front lines would go a long way to getting the factions to work out their differences. As long as we have troops out there acting like a occupying force, they will be perceived as such and will remain the main target. All we accomplish by staying in full battle mode is to keep getting our boys killed. Iraqis believe this, Europe believes this, 70 some % of Americans believe this, but Bush and the neo-cons think they know better. Stubbornness in the face of hard facts is not a virtue,

Why would anyone trust the Democrat party that wants to take away your right to own firearms?George Bush has defended our right to Keep and Bear Arms.Bill Clinton worked overtime to take away our gun rights. The Republican right wing does not want the troops to stay.We want the soldiers that are fighting the battle to decide when to leave. When they stop volunteering to fight that will be when they say it is time to leave. We trust the troops!!

So 'an american', as long as George enforces the 2nd amendment eho give a damn if he wipes his butt with the rest of the Bill of rights,eh? Is that all your life is? I realize you are shallow pathetic creature but is your life only defined by your gun? I dont give a damn if you have a gun or not, cowards like you & keith( afraid to serve in the military) dont scare me with or wiothout an assault weapon in your hands. But I'll tell you this much, if you let Bush and future presidents take away the rest of the Bill of Rights, your precious guns will next on their list. I defend the 2nd Amendment, but I defend ALL of the Bill of Rights as well.

Obviously "4all10" does not understand what I am writing so I will write slowly so he will understand. The reason that the Second Amendment is so important is that the first thing a tyranical government does is disarm the citizens. You can't trust a government that does not trust it citizens with firearms. It shows they are up to no good and they do not want us to have the ability to revolt. This has been the case throughout history. It is not about the gun it is about why they want us disarmed. The Democrats have been the major backers of disarming the citizens. The Republicans have been the major backers of protecting our right to own firearms.Common sense will tell you that the Republicans trust the people with power while the Democrats think of us as children that can't be trusted with guns.It would appear that the Democrats fear the citizens and the Republicans do not.The question is why do the Democrats fear the citizens? What are they really up to? Why do they want all the power[guns] only in the hands of the government? It would appear that the Democrats want to take all of our freedoms away and do not want us to put up a fight.I hope I wrote slow enough for you to understand why the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is SO important and if we lose it we will probably lose the rest.
