Would pay more if workers treated fairly
Monday, September 3 at 12:01 AM

With regard to the frequent statement “work American citizens won’t do,” I recently returned from a trip to Michigan. I stayed in eight motels and ate at a number of restaurants. I did not encounter any apparent illegal workers. I did speak to one maid who had recently escaped from Iraq and entered legally.
My question is how do the above-mentioned motels and restaurants stay in business without employing illegal workers? The big difference is the ability to intimidate illegal workers to work under conditions we would not accept.
Why else would many employers prefer illegal workers to immigrant workers with green cards? In agriculture we are told that crops are rotting in the fields but see no examples. We are also told that food prices would skyrocket if illegal workers were not employed. I doubt that there would be a substantial increase, and I would pay more for food and other products if I was sure the workers were paid and treated fairly.

Maybe it's time for American consumers to consider putting principles ahead of their pocketbook.

ok mr. drug store farmer please go do it. the migrate workers in the fields go get paid for what they do. it is all of the illigals who are taking away the fast food jobs from teenagers and the construction jobs from other Americans.
look at your great dumocrat party in DC with raising the minimum wage. how long before you cry that nobody can support a family of 4 on that wage? when they araise the minimum wage to a living wage, ha ha ha ha, why didnt they raise it to 10 or 15 dollars an hour? people can live on that wage.
so really think over what you are saying because one day you could pay 10 dollars for a head of lettuce.
look at corn prices now. the corn used for fuel is not the same as you eat but the price of some corn products is going up and people are up in arms at the raised prices.

Tom,
Be careful, you are exposing the great lie of our elected officials. They are beholden to business (both Republican and Democrat) and they will not appreciate your honest letter.
Politicians like Abel Tapia and Marsha Looper are banking on electorate ignorance in their attempt to open an employment office in Mexico to funnel illegal immigrants into Colorado.

Hey! You're rocking the boat. US Sen. Salazar (skipper, SS Amnesty - just another slave ship) and Uncle Obama's Cabin (Congressional Black Caucus - CBC - comical blacks in congress), are going to be really peeved at you, for dissing criminal illegal Mexicans. The Slazar brothers voted themselves a $484K federal farm subsidy, so they can hire more criminal illegal Mexicans. Do Looper and Tapia own farms too?

I am simply astonished that my people who were victimized as slaves, pimped and exploited, are contributors to Bush's and Salazar's flesh peddling scam. Even Rev. Al Sharpton, paid ($$$) Wal-Mart "illegals" lobbyist (FLUNKY) joined this posse.

These 43 "MT" suits and dresses, need to be reminded that our forefathers, were forced into this country as slaves, much like the criminal illegal Mexicans. However, our people were stripped of their native language, religion, customs, and our women folk were raped and bred like cattle, in the plantation masters pursuits of Herculean slaves (Hitler). Abundant "free" labor. The plantation "massas" gave their slaves cocaine so their muscles wouldn't hurt. Today, the white man is bringing criminal illegal Mexicans into the USA, who are also giving cocaine to blacks. The CBC, Al, T. Carroll, and Groff, need a clue.

"In agriculture we are told that crops are rotting in the fields but see no examples"

"Last year it was so bad that we lost some of our crop because we just didn't have enough help. What should have been 54 days of controlled chaos turned into 54 days of torture as we helplessly watched some of our future simply rot away in the field. "

Maybe you should get out of Highlands Ranch more, or read the paper.

Tom, your exactly right. There is no produce rotting in the fields, unless it is planned or poor business practices are involved.
Some chile crops are now starting to be harvested by machinery in N.M. Many American engineers, machinists, truck drivers and salesman will benefit, as will the American culture and citizen.

20 million illegals are not enough to pick the crops, because they are not picking. More illegals will not fix this issue. It was the true "guest worker" called migrant workers that picked. Americans are out of work. The "starter" jobs are taken by illegals and many industries are overcome by them. Deport them and Americans will reclaim those jobs.

Tom:
Did you look for illegal eastern europeans, coming in from Canada, or just for illegal Mexicans?
