A special place
I visited the Columbine Memorial recently. It is lovely — a beautiful place to reflect on the lives of the 13 victims.
It is not a place to talk on a cell phone, have long chats with friends you run into, roller blade or let children run around stomping on the plants.
Please, folks, turn off the phone and control the kids in this special place.
Ellie Bontrager, Limon
It's a monument to a bunch of suburbanites that finally can feel like victims. Try raising your kids, rather than ignoring them, and things like this won't happen.
Oh, Woe is us, for we are Columbine. Bah! Spoiled, self-centered, little egoists.
Posted by clyde on October 5, 2007 01:42 AMSounds like somebody has issues, right clyde? You need to stay on the meds, buddy.
Posted by ML on October 5, 2007 05:53 AMgee clyde you must really live on top of a mountain or in a deep hole somewhere. did you know any of these kids or the teacher? what about all of the kids who were forced to grow up, something you should try, in a split second?
please tell us oh wise clyde how many times you had someone open fire on you when you were 15-17 years old? well maybe you did living in a crack house or being a gang wanabe.
Ellie when my daughter went there she called me and told me all about it and was reading the names of her friends who were killed that day and that it was bringing closure for her as the wall has for a lot of vets. she also expressed that is was neat that there were a bunch of little kids up there, some running some reading.

I guess I shouldn't still be surprised, only disappointed, in the number of posters on this board who only know word definitions by context, and fail to realize that words have meanings outside of context. You do realize that egoism is not the same as egotism, right, clyde? Egoism commonly refers to an ethics or philosophy, whereas egotism is excessive reference to oneself, self-centeredness. A minor distinction, but it's there. Or are you suggesting that the average 16 year old American kid walks around debating the merits of Aristotle vs. Plato?
Posted by on October 5, 2007 07:31 AMChildishly calling others names does not express a worthy opinion Clyde. All it does is expose your ignorance and anger issues.
Little kids do not understand the significance of the memorial and on one hand their parents should be watching over them. On the other hand isn’t the memorial in Columbine park? As such, it should be expected that people are using the park for other things besides the memorial and some understanding of everyone is in order. Personally, kids playing, people talking on their cells, would add to the fact that the two killers could not silence the lifeblood of the Columbine community.
Posted by on October 5, 2007 12:44 PMActually the memorial is in Clement Park, which is right next to Columbine High School.
Posted by ML on October 5, 2007 01:43 PMNo, actually it is a bunch of self-important suburbanites that created their own problem and now want to be thought of a some kind of "special" victims. There's a reason they had so much trouble getting the money together to build this shrine to their victimhood. Grief counsellors out the wazoo, "We Are Colubine" everytime you turn around, even those that had no children whatsoever. It was simply an opportunity to grab as much media time as possible. And again, idiots like Tom Mauser surfaced to try again to blame guns for the parents failings, becoming a media whore in the process.
Sorry, I don't buy it. The people are truly disgracing the memory of these kids by hijacking it for their own twisted gratification.
Posted by clyde on October 5, 2007 11:22 PMClyde is one sick little sack of turds, no question about it. I'd hope he rots in hell, but he creates hell all around his filthy soulless carcass.
Posted by on October 5, 2007 11:52 PMI see all our self-involved, shallow, too-busy-to-raise-your-kids, Beemer drivers are just a tad insulted to be called what they are.
Posted by clyde on October 6, 2007 11:25 PMClyde,
Now there is something wrong with a person if they drive a BMW, too?
Just how shallow are you if you look at a persons’ car or where they live or where they went to high school and then pretend that you are able to judge them?
I thought prejudice went out of style a long time ago.
Notice that Clyde has not come within a mile of answering any of the questions other posters have asked him. He talks tough, but he's pretty unsure of himself.
Posted by Mountain Cat on October 8, 2007 08:39 AMNot the least bit unsure, and have a VERY good grip on the frailties and failures of the suburban "keeping up with the Jones" crowd. Keep going. Just don't forget that you get a ticket if your lawn is not green enough. These little suburban enclaves are all just window dressing for empty lives. I'm sorry if you feel offended, but I have no respect for a bunch of sheeple pretending to be people.
