Al Gore & the Nobel Prize
Thursday, October 18 at 2:00 PM

Richard Taylor of Littleton writes:

Used to love Oslo. Went there when I was stationed in England with the U.S.A.F. They seem to have gone senile in selecting a person like Gore to receive a Nobel Prize. What is it for? Polluting 22 times as much as the average American, selling tobacco (thats his family business) to lead us to early deaths, being the lowest I.Q.d vice president, backing up one of the two presidents ever impeached for malfeasance in office. What is it about this person that makes him important? Go figure.

That so called prestigious award has become a political shame award these past 10 years or so. These days they give that thing away like they're giving candy away at Halloween. Just like Acadamy Award they gave him. They don't mean squat anymore.

Maybe Laugh In can give him the "Fickle Finger of Fate" next.

Yeah its too bad that Reagan or a Bush didnt come up with this phoney Global Warming idea then it would make sense. I'm not even sure if the earth is round ( damn foreign explorers were a bunch of immigrant dummies), and gravitry is a fraud ( damn English royalty wont tell me how to think!). I say we have an old fashion book burning and kick science and science books out of the school!

Posted by Thinker on October 18, 2007 02:50 PM

Yeah Bush shoulda won the award. Heck if attacking a country and killing thousands in a War cant get a Peace prize what can?

Posted by Oslo Ozzie on October 18, 2007 02:52 PM

Stop wearing those FLAG lapel pins, because you "passed", when you were told to CARRY the FLAG. I am so very proud of Gore, Kerry, Daschle, Cleland, McCain, Kerrey, Hagel, J. Webb, and Murtha. When America called them to serve, they answered HER call. When America called Owens, Allard, Barry, Bush, Lott, Hastert, Scooter, Rove, Boehner, Card, Delay, Cheney, Tancredo, Brownback, Alito, J-Loop, Salazar, Mitt, Rudy, Fred, Lamborn, etc., to serve, they collectively placed HER on ignore, and immediately called their rich daddies.

Oslo

Your pal and terrorist Yasser Arafat received one also, so Big Al is in good company these days.

draftwhatever

I heard they gave Gore the Medal of Honor because his rich family and friends petitioned for it like they did for his Nobel Peace Prize. Kerry received his what is it up to now 20 Purple Hearts the same way. Mr our troops are war crimminals hippie wannabe. If we knew then what we know now , we would have fragged him in his hooch back in Nam.
I enlisted and was in the 101st Airborne 1968 and did 3 tours.

You were probably drafted and if you made it to Nam probably were stoned and on report all the time.
Then got out and became a hippie wannbe and continued doing drugs and hippie chicks.
All the left wing vets I ever met were what I image you are.

So you're Proud of Gore and Kerry, Now thats a Laugh.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) is a group which over the years have machine-gunned people in airline terminals, blow up restaurants and schools, murdered Olympic athletes, blown up airplanes in flight, etc., etc. When one considers that the prominent leader of the PLO, Yasser Arafat, got a Nobel Peace Prize they should consider the source of the award when relating it to Al Gore.

No, I’m not in any shape or form equating Gore to Arafat. So don’t try taking this down that road. I’m just saying the thought of the award should be taken with a few grains of salt.

Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev won the award but said later about receiving it that nothing would have happened to change the Soviet Union without Ronald Reagan. I know that will ruffle the feathers of some hard-core lefties, but it is what it is – a compliment from the man who once opposed Reagan. It also says something about who gets the Nobel Peace prize and who really might be more deserving.

Since it’s not something I track, I don’t know who might be more deserving than Gore. But to give it to him based upon what is still arguably an uncertainty about climate change is not only presumptuous, but probably is overlooking someone who actually contributed to a more peaceful world. It shouldn’t go to someone who has simply raised the loudest voice about a popular political and scientific issue.

Thinker and Oslo Ozzie,

I thought the topic was Al Gore & the Nobel Peace Prize. Does every political arguement end for you by bringing up presidents you dislike? The world is a lot deeper than you two must imagine.

But speaking of Reagan read my post from 04:32.

Disregard the sanctimonious nonsense about tours in Nam. I, too, am proud of Kerry and Gore. It is great that Gore won, and watching the Right blow a ventricle over it is a bonus.

Posted by Atticus on October 19, 2007 05:47 AM

MC what the hell does Arafat have to do with Al Gore winning the Noble prize??!???? talk about changing the subject! And if you can bring in a bad actor like Reagan what is so wrong with a good filmmaker winning the award? Quit playing politics, bottom line is taht conservatives ( read that Republicans) are pissed tahta Democrat won a prestigious international award. If the award is so 'meanigless' because of past winners why are you so angry that Gore won? I am afraid your bias is showing Cat.

Tired of Pseudo Americans, lol, speaking of pseudos I am betting YOU never served, most chickenhawks on these blogs never have. They enjoy wars, but are just too cowardly to serve in them. The only heavy potsmokers I knew in 'Nam were the Swift boaters and speaking of cowards and draftdodgers, I dont recall seeing your boy Georgie Bush over there. Oh that's right he was back in the states drinking brewskis at the officers club in Texas whining that even that was too tough and could he possibly do his coke-snorting in the Guard. What a man!!!! A born leader.

Posted by Oslo Ozzie on October 19, 2007 07:11 AM

If Isaac Newton had been a Democrat you conservatives wouyld still be whining that gravity doesnt really exist cuz they cant see it.

Larry Craig,

You need to read my post again to understand what I was saying. That is, if you can comprehend English in written form.

Posted by Mountain Cat on October 19, 2007 08:00 AM

Mountain cat, I undertsand the language as well as you write it. I also understand that you are another hypocritical Republican angry that someone who is a Democrat won an award. You dislike the Democrats and Gore so you 'trash' the award. You make a correlation that Arafat was evil so you discredit Gore receiving the award. Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandella, and Martin Luther King also won the award so using your conservative twisted logic we should discredit them as well? Brilliant republispeak logic! So typical of Republicans and conservatives...how about thinking for yourself instead of listening to the conservative hatrid that spews from Rush, Hannity and Coulter? You mindless idiot, maybe you could have Keith or An American read my reply to you.

Portuguese neurologist Egas Moniz received the 1949 Nobel Prize in medicine for "his discovery of the therapeutic value of [prefrontal lobotomy] in certain psychoses," including depression and schizophrenia. The prefrontal lobotomy operation, in which the nerve fibers connecting the frontal lobe with other parts of the brain were cut, and which often made patients zombie-like, would be repudiated by the medical community within a decade.

Al Gore, the latest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, is a similarly poor choice, one likely not to stand the test of time.

Ossie & Harriet

You have it backwards. You liberals always turn things around and re-write history to decieve the public.
Contrary to your false asumptions or lies it's the left that that rarely serves in the military unless they are drafted. If they are drafted they burn thier draft cards and head north to Canada. Like your Chicken-Chicken President Slick Willie said when he was hiding out in England at Oxford " I lothe the military and when he became President the military lothed him. Just as my son who is in Iraq and his fellow soldiers loathe the Democrats, left wingers and that includes you boy. One of these men are worth 100 of your kind.
This a general rule of thumb for your coward peacenik and appeasers group. Most liberals that do join is for the benifits durning peace time. What's your military back ground that gives you the right to question my service to this country?
We who have served hate war more than you "Pseudo" Americans who benefit from our sacrifices and know peace has a price that your ilk are unwilling to pay.
All you pay is lip service.

Posted by Tired of Pseudo Americans on October 19, 2007 08:31 AM

Hank, I am afraid your prefrontal lobotomy is showing. Speaking of lobotomies, maybe Bush's lobotomy is what kept him from winning the award? maybe the committe should ask someone with your impecable credentials next year in selecting a Republican for the award ( A republican winning a peace winner, now that IS funny!)

MORE ALGORE EXPOSURE:

Leaving aside the school-marmish, preachy, superior attitude that makes him such a magnet for parody, Gore is a phony. Consider that in 1996, he gave an impassioned address to the Democratic party convention, vowing to fight the tobacco industry to his last breath because twelve years earlier his sister had died from lung cancer. In 1988, however, while campaigning for the nomination for president, Mr. Gore had been telling tobacco farmers (in a Southern accent much thicker than was ever heard from him in Washington) that he was practically one of them, that he had tenderly held the young plants in his own two hands, had their interests at heart, and so on. And his movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," which offers an exaggerated, one-sided, and often inaccurate view of global warming, is more propaganda than documentary.

AL GORE: MARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER--PSYCHO!

Al Gore suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The criteria for this diagnosis, as described in the psychiatrist's bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, include a "pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts," as indicated by these manifestations:

O "a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)." Gore regularly demonstrates his grandiosity. Who can forget his notorious claim that he had been instrumental in creating the Internet? But far more serious and complex are Gore's delusions about issues of technology and environmentalism, such as his repeated endorsement of anti-technology tracts and criticism of technological advances while a congressman, senator and vice president. His writings generally place science and technology at odds with "the natural world" and by inference, with the well-being and progress of mankind. More on this below.

O "preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love; believes that he or she is 'special' and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)." These sorts of fantasies run riot in Gore's Earth in the Balance, in which he assumes that he, alone, has divined the solutions to the world's problems and the bold and dramatic measures that await the education and enlightenment of the public. When he was vice president, Gore and his staff of true believers attempted to purge the federal government of any dissension or challenge to his view of policy, in a way reminiscent of the worst paranoid excesses of the Nixon administration. Vexed by people who weren't sufficiently "special," Gore simply got rid of them.

O "lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others...shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes." While a senator, Gore was notorious for his rudeness and insolence during hearings. A favorite trick was to pose a question and as the witness began to answer, Gore would begin a whispered conversation with another committee member or a staffer. If the witness paused in order that the senator not miss the response, Gore would instruct him to continue, then resume his private conversation, leaving no ambiguity: Not only is your testimony unimportant, I won't even pay you the courtesy of pretending to listen to it. Gore once accused his political enemies of possessing "an extra chromosome," a remark that infuriated the families of persons with Down Syndrome, which is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome.
------
CERTIFIED PSYCHO!

Ossie and Harriet

Sure you were in Nam but if you were you were either smoking dope or a mortar went off near your head because I already told you of my service. You can't seem to retain current information. Your worst injury to your brain was to cause you to become a left winger. It's beyond me why anyone who served in that war would be a be a liberal. You had to be a misfit to start with. You probably still smoking that garbage and wearing your beard and ponytail. I can see why your so-called military family thinks like you if you around them. You had a bad influence on them. We had losers like Kerry and your kind during Vietnam and the same holds true for the present. You sound you're a disgrace to the Army and to this country.

Why don't you goe kiss Jane Fonda's behind like your pal John Kerry.

ok, so maybe in the US global warming is mainly thought to be a big conspiracy, and simply because Gore took the stance that it is a big problem, means that half the population will immediately take the opposite stance.

However, in the rest of the world it is taken seriously and people there are generally surprised at the Americans lack of action, and apparent intransigence on global warming.
Where they expected technological and thought leadership, they saw instead denial and political games. So when Gore did his movie, they took it as a sign that America was at last waking up.

They rewarded that because it was a well known politician saying something that was at least in the right direction.

If Mr.Taylor now dislikes Oslo as a city because Gore was awarded a Nobel, then that says a lot about his maturity, and maybe not a little about his understanding of both science and how the world perceives the US.

Posted by Bango Skank on October 19, 2007 11:29 AM

Gore is full of hot air gases and Yasser Arafat was a terrorist. Both have and had Nobel Peace Prizes. Total value of that prize is zero these days.

We can't prove global warming caused by fossil fuels one way or the other. One group of scientists says it's a natural cycle the earth goes thru periodically. Another claims it's due to fossil fuels. It has gotten warmer. I tend to think the latter has more to do with economics and politics.

All of our envious friends in the UN seem to want us to be subject to pollution standards that do not impact their economies or that they feel exempt from following. The global warming Go Green has become a multi-billion dollar Industry that will cost Americans thru the nose if we are forced to follow their enviromental mandates.

The earth's weather has always been changing. That is why we have desserts where there was once a lush vegetation and the Ice caps(No sad polar bears floating on a tiny icebergs) were once a tropical forrest. Sea levels have been rising and falling long before I started driving my 1964 Chevy 40 years ago.

Let us not forget that Gore has been in bed with big oil throughout his political career. To a far greater extent than Bush. Then there is his strip mining business, big tobacco, etc.

Gore is a typical rich liberal elitist. Do as we say, not as we do. Oil is not the only thing he's in bed with.
He probably has stock in enviromental friendly light bulbs and other Go Green products. Who's going to get the Nobel Peace Prize next? Osama Bin Laden?
