Baseball is a beautiful thing
Wednesday, October 10 at 2:00 PM

Bill Hopping of Littleton writes:

This is too much fun-a nail biter today, with cheers for out-of-town scoreboard changes that rivaled the volume created for mid-season grand slams. Life-long friends made in the stands at every crisis in today’s version of The World’s Most Beautiful Game. Season-long heros became icons and legends today, as the Babe looked down from heaven and said “What a beautiful game, I’ll have another beer, thank you.".

A sportscaster interviewed Pete Rose on the eve of his record breaking hit and asked him what he thought Ty Cobb would be thinking as he looked down on the field. Rose replied, "From what I've heard about Ty Cobb, he ain't looking down".

Great post Stan B!

This is indeed my favorite time of the year. With only one of my teams left (grew up in Milwaukee - sad the Brewers didn't make it, fan of the Red Sox for half of my life now - love they are still in it), this is especially exciting as my wife and I are expecting the arrival of our first born, my son, any time now, and I was told, with no room for questions, that regardless of what happens in baseball, I would NOT be going to any out of town games.

Well, it looks like I hopefully won't have to worry about that, as my Red Sox should take care of business right here in my home town!!! GO SOX!!!

Want to hear something really funny?

Larry King was a sports interviewer when he first started his career and got to interview Ty Cobb when King was a very young man. King asked asked Cobb what his batting average would be if he were still playing today. Cobb immediately replied, "About 280".

King asked him if that was due to day games, a tougher schedule, traveling, and so forth. Cobb replied, "No. It's because I'm 70 years old!".

Dan2....

"Well, it looks like I hopefully won't have to worry about that, as my Red Sox should take care of business right here in my home town!!! GO SOX!!!"

Mr. Dan2; we have a sort of tradition out here in the flyover territory that works well for handling nefarious traitors -- transplants from the inbred masses of ancient and decaying cities like you.

We gather up a few good ol' boys, boil up a pot of tar, pluck a few chickens and splinter a formerly smooth rail.

Why don't you put on your "Sox" jersey and cap, and let us know where we can meet you for a demonstration of this grand old tradition.

Trust me, you'll love it!

It's nice too see something good happening in this town for a change.

The Rockies have given anyone who cares a chance to enjoy something positive for a while.

They have great players and I'm not talking about athletic ability.I talking of character.Their humility is refreshing.Their players not acting like prima donnas is refreshing. They are a team.

I watched the games leading up to their great come from behind, against the odds to get into the league playoffs.

What really made me happy was to see Cal Ripkin Jr. in the booth for TBS.

He is my all-time baseball hero.I have never seen him have a harsh word for anyone, never throw a tantrum, was always gracious winning and losing. Was a great short stop for the Orioles,is a family man. and one of the very very few sports figures that kids could look up to.

I think The Rockies will have quite a few of those players. GO! ROCKIES!!!!

I'm excited about the Rockies making it this far and will be watching some of the games and cheering them on but baseball is still boring.

Joseph S.

Like I am going to sweat a couple of good old boys from Colorado? Give me a break.

My seats are in section 239, Row 5, Seats 11 and 12. I shouldn't be hard to miss with my Red Sox cap, face painted Red and Blue and Sox T-Shirt. If you can get to the Club level, bring it chief. I have survived many games at Yankee stadium wearing exactly what I plan to wear when my Sox end the Rockies season.

But, for the next week or so, I will be a HUGE Rockies fan, hoping they can continue this miracle run. I, unlike most of you so called "Rockies Fan's" have season tickets, so I put my money where my mouth is. How about you chief?

Dan 2...

We're both safe -- our seats (for 14 years) are in section 121.

It is nice to see longterm dedication come to fruition, isn't it?

Enjoy the games...

Dan2 exclaims:

"...when my Sox end the Rockies season..."

I bet you can sing the entire refrain from "TO DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM" in your sleep, too!

By the way, congratulations on your soon to be arriving son.

In all seriousness, thanks carl, that was very kind of you to write.

But, the REAL impossible dream is to continue to think the Rockies can sustain their AMAZING streak. 17 of 18 games, and now it just gets harder. If it wasn't for the Brewers, no matter how well the Rockies had played, they would be sitting on the outside looking in, which would have been a travesty.

I'm proud of the team I have season tickets for, but my loyalty remains true to my Sox. Crucify me if you must, but if nothing else, at least I am loyal.

Joseph S.

Great seats! Enjoy the game(s), this is truly an historic moment, and, I think above all else (and I can take the heat for this comment), it is about damn time that Denver gets behind a team other than the F'n Broncos (whom I absolutely DESPISE)

Rockies are the team of destiny (at last) this year.

Rockies over D Backs in 6

Rockies over Indians in 5

Sorry, Dan2, it ain't the year of the Sox, except in the washer! The Indians are going to bushwhack your beloved Sox at the pass on the way to the Rockies (six, possibly seven games) -- fortunately, the Sox will leave the Indians beaten and licking their wounds when they arrive here!
