Boettcher renovation a waste
Wednesday, October 17 at 12:01 AM

I sure would love to know what percentage of Denver city/county taxpayers have ever or will ever set foot inside Boettcher Hall. I dare say a very small percentage. Yet each and every Denver taxpayer is being asked to cough up money to try to rehabilitate that albatross. And how sad that the Museum of Nature and Science is fatally joined at the hip with Boettcher in Issue 1H.
The museum, which, I imagine, day in and day out draws far greater numbers of young and old from all walks of life, and is a great center of learning, is far more deserving of taxpayer funds than is the elitist Boettcher, which, since the day it opened, has been a loser in more ways than one. I say get those who messed it up to fix it up. Or turn the space into something that will pay for itself. Hopefully, the taxpayers, the majority of whom will never enter the place, won’t vote in favor of (Issues 1G and 1H) fixing what never should have been in need of fixing to the extent that it is.

Just hand over the money. The goverment leeches have decreed that they need it, therefore you must surrender it. Accountability doesn't apply.

Since my family and I have been to Boettcher on multiple occasions, we clearly statistically outweigh Jim and his inbred cousin Clyde. Sinveling rant dismissed.

I bet Jim and Clyde want your tax dollar to pay for thier free medical under the new proposed old socialist medical program being thrown around again.

Clyde and Jim more then likely want social programs funded that go to illegals instead of American Citizens.

Ok so maybe I exaggerate. But to say or imply(?) that Boettcher is not worthy of support is wrong. I agree that the city government and state government is irresponsible in their actions of upkeep. Look at old Mile High, and the now invesco. The city wants the revenue but will not live up to its end of the agreement on upkeep.

This is yet another reason why the voters need to think long and hard before they vote these tax and spend candidates into office.

jim why all the up roar on a tax that you, living in wheatridge will never pay? have you ever been there? I guess the culture that takes place there is way over your understanding.maybe you and clyde can get the city to build you the perfect building that you would use alot, say the nose pickers memorial building.

If they have a following they should not be afraid to raise the ticket price and manage.

Hey Jim, how much of your tax dollar went towards capital improvements and incentives for Cabela's to build a store in your city? Take care of your own house before you worry about someone else's.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Colorado is stuck with a slum-lord inspired form of anti-tax, anti-revenue producing, State Constitutional Amendment. Douglas Bruce did no maintenance on the properties he had in his control; so why should Government bother with leaky roofs, failed plumbing, etc., etc?

Give Government barely enough to keep essentials alive - and do that grudgingly; so the greedy can keep as much as possible from what they gouge to get. If the building(s) - or house(s) - fall down on those inside, that's just . . . T.S.

The State has been trying to de-Bruce itself, and recover from the effects of the damn foolishness of the whole anti-tax "crusade" for years. Now, the buildings, and other essential parts of the infrastructure, are in such condition as to be in many cases hazerdous to those who work there, as well as to visitors.

But, leave it to the anti-tax nuts to scream and holler against the idea of doing anything to deal with the problems. As usual, their whole argument is nothing more than one of: "We've got ours; we intend to keep ours; and to hell with anyone else."

"Take care of your own house before you worry about someone else's."

This, from someone posting in favor of a tax increase that will benefit a small fraction of the population. Ha.

Or to put the pro tax nuts argument in an equally facetious manner, " I want it, but I don't want to pay for it, so I'll extort the cost of my pleasures from everyone, whether they benefit from it or not." Or perhaps a better way of stating it, "I want to have my cake, and eat it too." I take it you didn't bother to pay attention during the part of your history lessons regarding feudalism OG, at least the part that involved a small minority of "intellectual" aristocrats stealing the labor of serfs to pay for opulent entertainments while the laborers starved in the fields. Didn't work out so well for the "tax-payers". Or if that's too much of a far-fetched analogy for you to be able to analyze, look at Soviet Russia. Funny how oppressors always justify their actions as being for the good of humanity(at least their part of it), and people never learn and continue to clamor for these benevolent, humanitarian dictators. But maybe you're of the "history is bunk" school of thought.

You have to love the tax tax tax mentality of the left. "We can spend your money better than you can". Oh and poor Colorado can't keep up because of Tabor. What a crock. There's nothing wrong with the "people" approving any tax increase. Pro-tax nuts like Old Grouch will only contribute when "everyone else" is forced to. Send your own money first if it's such a worthy cause.

He calls it "dealing with the problem", I've never been to either and honestly have no desire to go yet. And if I do, I'll expect to pay THEN. How about really dealing with the problem. A vast majority of the Denver metro population don't go these places either. That's the problem, why should they be forced to pay for it.

Denver had to have an Aquarium, "the people had to have it" we were told. A giant fish tank in the middle of the rocky mountains. That will sure bring in tourists. Who thinks of these things?

You're darn right I've got mine. Because I busted my ass earning it. I'm not going to part with it so some stuffed shirt liberal can enjoy a night at the Opera. Pay your own damn way.

Nail on the head, nail on the head.

The famous collectivist arrogance rearing its head. Do you sincerely think that you are the only person named drew? Wait, I've seen the intellectual content of most of your posts, you probably do.

rick.

We don't have a new Mile Hi Stadium.

We have INFESTED FIELD, and I get to help pay for it clear up here in Longmont.
Boulder County is included in the stadium tax district for some unspoken reason. It surely can't be for the enrichment of my community,
40 miles North.

Remember spoiled, rich, whiney, Pat Bowlen
saying the donkeys needed a new stadium to be competiteve? Right after winning back to back super bowls in the old one? That's a huge crock of sh!t, and I hope the donkeys
are a losing team forever.
