Columbia University’s hypocrisy
Friday, October 5 at 11:51 AM

Dave Petteys of Roxborough Park writes:

During his visit, Ahmedinejad was granted all the courtesies.
Columbia twisted its arm patting itself on the back as the bastion of free speech. Yet when the Minutemen tried to speak recently, they were shouted down by unruly students. Even the President of the United States is not welcome on campus! It shows the depths of hypocrisy and anti-American bias to which Columbia has sunk!

Another place where Bush is not welcome is in the campaigns of the Republican presidential contenders.

Neither is the ROTC. We libs hate the military and their ILK. We'd prefer raghead madmen to the people that protect our country.

Columbia University is not a barometer of what sane people think. Try to remember the idiots of the 1960's who now are clean cut elder business men or tradesmen making a living the old fasioned way. . I'm one of them and I survived to be a good guy. Kids don't have a clue what life is about. If they don't get arrested to much and stay off all drugs, except grass, I'm sure the percentage range that succed at life will be about the same as it always has been. Experience is the greatest teacher, so let them experience the ups and downs of learning and the majority will be just fine, believe me.

Allen,
Try to remember all of the soldiers that died in Vietnam because of the actions of those idiots in 1960's All of the war protests that embolden "Charlie' to fight even harder. Then try to remember all of the Vietnamese that were murdered after our soldier left, because of the idiots in the 60's

I was drafted right after graduation from high school in 67 and wore the uniform with pride, while you idiots of the 60's were running around calling everyone of us "criminals and baby killers" Now you are all elderly businessmen and tradesmen, and the soldiers that died because of your actions are just some passing bad memory.

What the idiots in Columbia University did by inviting Ahmedinejad and giving him standing ovations, will cost some soldiers their lives. Like the soldiers that died in Vietnam, they too will never get to experience the ups and downs of life, because of the actions of the new group of idiots.

Soldiers will die because of what the idiots at Columbia University did. Believe me!

No more federal money for anti-american universities.

Stuff it where you got the most room Jgd777. How dare you insinuate that I cause the deaths of anyone, How in the hell would you know what I did in the sixties? What do you know about me at all Jerk. I did my time to, although not in the same way you did. My job was one hell of a lot more dangerous than you could ever believe but, I don't broadcast it like so many do to use it as a political tool.

You make a great big mistake assuming a surperior attitude about anything you know nothing about. I never called anyone a baby killer fool and your comments are a disgrace to all in the sixties that supported the troops while maybe not supporting a war we could not win because of political game playing. That's where you should place blame if anywhere rather than calling people you dont' have a clue about aiders and abeters to the death of any American.

And your reading skills are suspect what I said was--- who made a living the old fasioned way I'm one of them. Not I was one of the idiots. Try getting what I said, not what you think I meant.

Hey guys-slow down and think about the big picture. This isn't the '60s,and recasting today's issues into that mould doesn't get us anywhere, least of all the aging hippies whose ears are still ringing with "Hey,hey,LBJ",etc....They all became Star Wars fans and now have Imperial Walkers.
The reality of the Columbia University-Ahmedinejad situation is that Ahmedinejad ended up looking like the boor that he is and he was not allowed anywhere near Ground Zero.Score one for the good guys-us.

Jimminy,

He may have ended up looking like a boor here in the States, but to his supporters back in Iran he appeared as a welcomed visitor in the "Great Satan's' backyard. Do you honestly feel that it will be seen in its entirety back in the Middle east or just the part with the students from Columbia University giving him a standing ovation.

Allen,

Maybe you should reexamine your writing skills. "Who now are clean cut elder business men or trades making a living the old fashion way" is a phrase decribing the idiots of the 60's. And your admission of being one of them, included you in that group.

And I will stand on my position that the idiots of the 60's were running around calling the returning military "baby killers and murderers" Hell even your hero John Kerry did it.

Can someone please tell me how calling our soldier liars and killers be considered supporting them?

jdg777-I do think it's safe to say that Al-Jazeera(sp?) probably will put a more positive spin on Madman's appearance than, say, the Manchester Union Leader, but since democracy in the Mideast is pretty rare outside of Iraq and Israel,I'm thinking that whatever is said in Arabic about Madman won't be relevant there or here.I believe that what is relevant is that since the stature of Islamofascism is diminished here at home we may actually start to remember that the USA has always had the wherewithal to erase Madman's nation in a single day.We may need to help those folks realize that their interest lies in giving us reason not to exterminate them.

Posted by Jimminy on October 6, 2007 05:33 PM

We had exactly the same option in 1965.

Posted by Jimminy on October 6, 2007 05:38 PM

In sum,I think Columbia did us a service. They showed us how foppish and foolish both they and our enemies can be.Don'tcha love unintended consequences?

Posted by Jimminy on October 6, 2007 05:45 PM

More a symptom than a cause,I think.

F#*&k Columbia.

Charles B.

While it’s no surprise that you would mock someone, it’s also no surprise that you modified what jdg777 wrote. They did not say that the kid in the 60’s caused all of our ills, now did they? jdg777 didn’t even use the word “hippies.” You did.

But they did correctly state that the actions of the idiots in the 60’s had a terrible effect in the eventual outcome of the war in Vietnam, particularly for the people of South Vietnam and Cambodia, and that the actions of the idiot of today will likely lead to a similar poor outcome.

I cannot pretend to know how old you are, but I have a feeling that you were not around during the 1960’s to know what jdg777 was talking about.

I really don’t like pointing these things out to you, but I hate the distortions you embark upon.
