CSU’s editorial & Iraq
Wednesday, October 10 at 2:00 PM

Dolores Williams of Fort Collins writes:

Republicans don’t want to talk about their war (occupation) so they jump on a word. Students are most affected by this “war started by lies” when their contemporaries are coming home in boxes or without limbs and functioning brains. They will also have to pay for the run- away costs of the war at $10 billion/month, all borrowed debt outside the budget.
McSwane is brave and the best example of an informed citizen who is trying to get the attention of the students at CSU who are too busy to get involved. He has already got our attention, yet we are not smart enough to understand the need for the press to be out there.
We are in a quagmire in Iraq, possibly adding Iran to the mess, because the press can’t be relied on to alert us to the dangers of the Bush/Cheney war for oil. Why, because the same pressure is put on reporters in our news and paper media, so they can’t inform us what we need to know. Right here is an example of “kill the messenger” and we totally miss the point!
Wise up, Americans, and don’t be fooled again. Our free speech and constitution are at stake.

Interesting points! I have one question - If there is no way to get true information from the Government or the Media - How do you know that what you believe is true?

Frank Discussion has a point. You can't prove that this post is real.

delores you need to start reading something other than media matters for your information.
this does prove a wonderful point about you and free speech. had this been towards your girl hillbillary you would be up in arms. did you read the piece that the dums in congress want more spying done? yep they need to know who is not on their side and to hell with free speech.
if you believe the moron mcswine is informed we are all in for a lot of trouble. for the rest of us in the real world please keep him in ft collins and maybe he could be your mayor or editor of your paper.

I don't care to comment on the opinion of Ms. Williams and her disdain for war. I prefer to comment on her numbers alone.

"Runaway costs of $10 billion/mo, outside the budget." The total budget for the entire defense spending for FY 2007 was $463.5 Billion. Of which $121 billion was appropriated for the continuing conflicts of Iraq AND Afghanistan. In fiscal year 2007 (which ended 10 days ago), the emergency funding of the Iraq war was $20 billion above appropriated funds, according to the GAO. During that time (FY 2007) the Federal deficit shrank to $131 billion, or about 1.2% of the economy and the Congressional Budget Office still estimates that the budget will be balanced by 2010, EVEN IF THE WAR IN IRAQ CONTINUES AT CURRENT LEVELS.
-Soucre GAO and CBO

So, Ms. Williams, where in the WORLD are you getting your figures from, or do you just enjoy making them up? Real cost, outside the budget for the war in Iraq is not $10 B/mo, but really $1.6 B, in a budget of $2.9 TRILLION.

Dollars and sense only, not judgment on your feelings of the war. While still a HUGE amount of money, it is no where near "runaway costs" that we will be leaving to our children, as the partisan mantra goes...

Holy cow Dan2, I am impressed. That is some of the best obfuscation I have ever seen.

Hey! You guys didn't tell me Mitt Romney was going to be in Denver today. The theme of his "prez" speech, "ask Mitt any question". Well I just happen to have a couple. I would like my questions printed in the CSU Collegian and CSU College Republicans (Future Draft-Dodgers of America-FDDA).

1. When NAM broke-out, you broke for your Mormon mission. Black Muslim Elijah and his son, Wallace D. Muhammad were sentenced to 3 years in federal prison each, for pulling the same religious draft conscientious objector stunt. Do you owe black folks 3 years in federal prison? Was your pappy a cabinet member in the Nixon administration? Can you smell GOP sulphur?

2. The Fitzsimons redevelopment project is/was a cash-cow for the LDS construction company owners and the LDS Church, SLC, UT. FLDS are fleecing, pimping, and exploiting taxpayers through massive federal welfare fraud. Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer (Fitz chairman) and former UCH/UCDHSC CEO Dennis Brimhall gave the Mormons the Fitz candy store (federal funds fraud, waste, and abuse). Brimhall retired from UCH/UCDHSC and the LDS rewarded his for his fraud, by appointing him as their new Director, International Mormon Missions. They made political fiancial "donations" to Tauer. Did of these organizations donate to your "prez" political campaign?

SUMMARY: The brothers in SuperMax would welcome Mitt, Tauer, and Brimhall.

flimflam - I see that you can not deny the facts stated by Dan2 so you make a rude comment. We can not have a sincere discussion if you will not participate.

"uncapable to consume knowledge"

Posted by KeithisanIdiot on October 11, 2007 10:13 AM

Keith can always be counted on for comic relief. Against all odds, he seems to get more stupid by the day.

Somebody get Keith a big bowl of knowledge to consume. After listening to him I think he hasnt eaten any in years!!!

Kieth has a spectacular affinity for his personal opinion and such bias and prejudice trumps. Get off his case. The kid suffers a mental affliction.

Dan2:
According to my calculations 120 billioin dollars per year is quite close to 10 billion a month. And, as I am sure you are aware, this is the first fiscal year that the war funding has been included in the federal budget. It seems that the letter writers numbers and point were right on. What about yours?

Posted by J on October 11, 2007 01:34 PM

Read her letter closer J. She said $10 B ABOVE federal funding, which is a fabrication.

"$10 billion/month, all borrowed debt outside the budget"

Calculate away, but her numbers are 100% inaccurate. Read the GAO report on FY 2007, and the quarterly reports from the COB. My numbers are the governments numbers, not my own, fabricated, calculations.

Posted by Dan2 on October 11, 2007 03:15 PM

But you don't dispute that prior to this fiscal year the war spending was not a part of the budget. Seems like you are splitting hairs. But you are of course right as always, on or off budget 120 billion a year to CREATE MORE TERRORISTS is a great deal. Yeah right.

Money,

Bing up war and the republics can't spend enough, bring up a change in health care and they are up in arms about the cost. You have to understand how badly they want to keep us safe but by god we aren't going to help fellow Americans stay healthy. Keep us dumb and sick! Easier to control a dumb sick and poor population! why do they hate colleges and professors? You bring up a college professor and immediately they will label him a liberal. Education has a liberal bias...

"Easier to control a dumb sick and poor population!"

You mean like the kind that operates solely on feelings, impulses, and irrationality, the kind that thinks that making a point consists of saying "I'm right, and your wrong" without ever providing some sort of empirical, objective evidence in support of their views?
