DeGette’s wilderness plan applauded
I would like to applaud U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette’s action to represent the interest of Colorado citizens rather than the deep-pocketed oil and gas industry (“DeGette unveils plan to designate 1.6 million acres as wilderness,” Sept. 13).
Her proposal halts the destruction of Colorado’s most pristine lands from oil and gas excavation so that we and future generations can enjoy them for years to come. If we fail to protect Colorado’s most valuable resource and biggest attraction with strict restrictions, the oil and gas industry — only interested in deepening its already overflowing pockets — will suck the beauty from our beloved land.
By designating 20 percent of Colorado’s land as wilderness, we will ensure that we can keep the oil and gas industry at bay. If we don’t, we might have to replace our well-known and loved silhouette of mountains on our license plates with that of oil and gas pumps and derricks.
I urge all representatives to shun the influence of money from the oil and gas industry and instead represent the wishes of Colorado citizens.
John E. Schleicher, Boulder
Oh yes lets all stand and cheer Diane. Her and the lefts support of foriegn governments and thier oil and gas interests into American pocket books. Lets all bow down at the alter of globalization.
Diane is part of the problem not the solution. There are many alternative energies out there. Those of which are not based on fossil fuels, yet people like Diane will not support or even consider.
America still leads the way(for the moment) in technology when it comes to these alternatives. Howeverf leftists would rather do all that is possible to keep this country dependant on foriegn oil from the middle east.
Diane is yet another reason why recalls are so important.
For those who wonder about alternative energy think about it. Electrical power for cars based on batteries. Nuclear power for homes and buisness. Hydrogen power, wind power (as l;ong as it does not block the Kennedy compound in Nantucket).

I can feel all of the warmth in this warm and fuzzy plan that will allow you to enjoy parts of colorado that you will never travel to. I am sure all of the almost citizens who are covered by her plan and support of abortion would love to see these areas but never will.
yes we should all stand a bend over to her as she supports another feel good idea.
she is not even John's representative - Udall is
Posted by on October 1, 2007 07:47 AMAnother freakin' tree hugger who would rather spill American blood in foreign deserts to protect oil reserves than see his precious "pristine environment" carefully harvested.
I'm sure those dying and being maimed in the Mid East are appreciative of your "concern."
Posted by on October 1, 2007 08:50 AMIf DeG. want's to put all potential energy sources sources "out of bounds," then she also needs to reveal her plan to keep $10 p/g at the pump "out of bounds" too. If she can't do that, then she is just pandering to the environut/global warming/carbon footprint crowd, trying to jam her wacky snakeoil down everyone's throat in the process.
And when she and Ritter find out that thye don't have sufficient tax revenues (some of which could be energy based) to support their socialist programs, just watch them shut their alarmist pie-holes.
Posted by on October 1, 2007 10:09 AMSo, Ms DeGette, We bound certain lands as irreplacable wilderness. Then when Global warming comes and the climate change causes these idylic spots to become desert and causes our national seashores to be underwater, How do we reverse the process and turn cities and farms into parks and parks into cities and farms? Look at the big picture , folks. The environment (which is a small part of the universe) and the universe are DYNAMIC,. Statutory wilderness is Static, not dynamic! I remain optimistc because the dynamic part will win in the end, whether we take a little oil out of a hole or not. In fact, climate change should make the natural environmental reclamation faster.

Anon 10:09, how does natural gas in Colorado have anything to do with gas (made from crude oil) prices?

My such language! "Vitriolic"
So are you a liar because what the no- names posted seemed to be pretty much inline with the truth when it comes to the likes of M.S. DeGettes and her wilderness plan.
This Pat Schroeder wannabe seems to be following in her two "Left" feet.
People call them the way they are sometimes.

Leftists like Repugnants are Liars can't stand it when somebody expresses an opinion that conflicts with their concept of Supreme Authority.
Cut them some slack -- it's like being inbred.
