Dems should take new look at fiscal votes
Tuesday, October 23 at 12:01 AM

The recent Rocky article, "Union of Taxpayers flunks state Dems," reported that
the state's Democrat-controlled legislature and governor earned a grade of F
from the taxpayer group for their voting records in the first legislative
session since taking control in the last election. The governor and each
legislator's vote by bill is published in the group's report. Republicans rated
higher overall in voting against tax and fiscal bills unfriendly to taxpayers.
However, it appears the Democrats have gone giddy over their new power and are
getting accustomed to disregarding the people who pay the state's bills - the
taxpayers! They complain that "We could have stood on our heads, danced and
sang, been very entertaining and still gotten F ratings."
The taxpayers are not looking for entertainment from our representatives. Better
that they examine their own voting records carefully, thoughtfully consider what they are doing to Colorado taxpayers, and then change their voting
to be more in favor of the taxpayers. Maybe then they will get a better score!

Traditionaly Dems have always raised taxes and spent money freely. They think it is their duty to create a larger welfare state. Unfortunately too many still live and think it is the LBJ administration and that the great society needs expansion.

The best way for any and all taxpayers to fight this is to vote these tax and spenders out of office. Put fiscal conservatives in office. Or at least vote for candidates that have taken economics 101.

that wont happen in denver as they all want as many freebes and they can get. getting the money for the gifts is easy as they just raise taxes or get a bond issue to pass with the help of the people who dont pay any taxes but get all of the freebes

No one has spent more money than Bush

LBJ spent more.

You folks do realize that we're going to have to raise taxes because of the fiscal policies of the republicans over the last 7 years right?

Iraq is now costing $2Billion a week. Bush is a complete idiot and we can thank the GOP morons for nominating an incompetent loser. The Republican party should go away.

The new democraps led congress gets a f- grade. The meatball"it's true" if this congress would of supportedur troops over the terrorist this war would of been over.

By voting for the Democrats and putting them in office here in Colorado to spite George Bush's war, the taxpayer cut off his nose to spite their face. That goes for the entire nation. Now this politicians have a lower poll numbers than the President. If Bush can bring most of our troops home before the next Presidential election the they will clean house of these bigger losers than Bush and The Republicans will take the White house again. When people think of Hillary or Obama in power it gives them the cold sweats. It will probably be Giuliani in '08.

Keith can you explain how the war would have been over and what the current situation would be like? I don't see an end to this war because I don't see what they were trying to accomplish. I don't know how we can define a victory. It seems like a complete mistake.

Keith, I have a question. I often hear varying versions of your talking point that "if this congress would of supportedur troops over the terrorist this war would of been over." Many times other groups are inserted where in you've chosen "Congress"...so it's certainly a versatile phrase.

My question is...what "support" are you talking about....and how would such "support" allow our troops to claim victory? How does this "support" negate the strategic roadblocks that are currently standing in our way?

Posted by jay on October 23, 2007 10:18 AM

Jay,

The left has never supported this war, oh yea they did vote for the funds and even voted for going to war. However the moment it started to get little difficult, the left threw up their arms in surrender. They said voting for the war was the wrong thing to do and some even threatened to take away the funding.

The left wing media immediately starting blowing out of proportion any mistake made in Iraq. In every war in history mistakes have been made, and new tactics have to be developed. However in this war the media was reporting how are tactics are changing and giving our enemy a opportunity to adapt to them.

Then our liberal Congress pushed for a time table, telling the enemy how long they have to keep fighting before they win. Criticizing the Iraqi Government for not doing in a couple of years what it took the US 15 or more years to accomplish.

Having the Speaker of the House visit with one of the allies of our enemy. And how about the Senate Majority leader say to the world we have lost this war. Or maybe having our elected official calling our soldier murderers and rapist.

If this is what you call support for the troops, maybe you should ask them how they feel about your "support"

Where's the jgd777 who's calling for moderation on the other threads?

Liar! Partisan Hack!

Posted by on October 23, 2007 11:08 AM

OK jgd777 can you tell me how we win this war? It seems like a simple question and one where we all deserve an answer. What is the objective? How have Democrats stopped the completion of the objective? How do you define a victory? When can our soldiers come home?

Posted by It's True on October 23, 2007 11:14 AM

Again jdg777...your partisan nature gets the best of you.

Instead of debunked strawman arguments...why don't you give us an answer to the question I asked Keith?

Posted by jay on October 23, 2007 11:27 AM

This is not about partisanship this is about supporting the troops. I personally feel that our government made some huge tactical errors when we went into Iraq. However we are there and we need to find a way out.

In war the enemy very seldom is totally destroyed, we didn't kill every German in WW2 and we didn't kill all of the Japanese either. What did happen is we proved to them that no matter what they do they will lose the war. So, we do not need to kill every terrorist, what we need to do it prove to them no matter what they do or how many people they kill they will lose in Iraq.

If we can defeat their will to fight we can win. This can only be done with an absolute resolve that no matter what they do the victory will not be theirs. Everytime one of our politician gets up and says the war is lost it only reinforces the terrorist's resolve.

We have the best equipped and well trained military, let them do their job. Don't stand on the other side of the field and point out every mistake they might make, or tell them when the point total gets too high we are just going to quit. If this war is lost it will be lost here at home in the halls of Congress and not on the battlefield.

Why would the enemy quit fighting when they are constantly being told they are winning? Maybe we should be telling our soldiers that they are winning and then let them do their job, because they can win this war.

Posted by jgd777 on October 24, 2007 09:52 AM

I guess I was looking for substance rather than empty platitudes. What "support" are the Dems withholding that would erase the strategic roadblocks (insufficient force size being a big one) that stand in our troops' way?

No amount of "resolve" is going to make the reality of our deficiencies on the ground go away.

Posted by jay on October 24, 2007 11:56 AM

Jay,

How about stop telling the world "we lost the war'

If are politicians would stop playing politics with this war, and let our military do the job they can win this war, even with the troops currently on the ground. We are not losing battles Jay, but the politicians are losing this war.

We could have 400,000 of the best equipped troops in the war and they could not win this war as long as our politicians are back here telling the world we are losing.

Have Pelosis, Ried, Clinton, and the rest of them shut their mouths for a few months and watch what happens.
