DPS closing schools
Saturday, October 6 at 2:00 PM

Leroy M Martinez of Denver writes:

DPS schools are talking about closing more schools next year and now they want to borrow $400 Millions dollars for the under funded pension and use the school building as collateral. Maybe the schools should hire more business teachers in their schools because this does not sound like a good adventure. Now they will close even more schools when they cannot pay back any monies and lose the building that were collateral.

They should close the entire district. DPS has been an incompetent school district for more years than most people care to remember.
At the very least, break it up into smaller more manageable districts. Eliminate the overpaid admistrative staff and replace them with personnel knowledgeable in proper business practices....schools should be run at allowable costs, not in excess of them.

If they close the whoke DPS system down where would the poor pitiful students go to be babysat. That's what the teacher's are doing these days.

Babysitting the illegals children so that they can do they jobs that Americans won't do and giving them free meals. Next there will be a districtwide policy that the bring blamkies and their favorite stuffed animal to school.

At least till they are 14 and start having babies.

Dear 6:57,
Thank you for saying it so much better than I ever do.
The closer we look at DPS, the uglier it gets.

Schools are for educating children so they can become, hopefully, self supporting citizens that add something to society rather then on the governmental dole. When a school fails to do this, for any reason, it is the fault of the administration governing that school and that's the bottom line of any business. And don't make the mistake in thinking that schools aren't businesses. They are in the business of teaching children and that should and aught to be their only purpose for existing.

If closing some of the schools improves education, then imagine how brilliant the kids will be if we close ALL the schools!

Close all public schools now!

There aren't only illegal students that attend these schools. For what reason do we need comments about illegals at these schools? What does it help? Let's face it, they're here, and improving our school system isn't as easy as "kick out all the illegals and everything will magically be better". There is a serious problem with DPS, and it has very little to with the citizenship status of the children. There are problem children who are legal residents, believe it or not. It is easy to blame someone else (illegals) for our problems, and talk about what they need to do before we can begin working towards a solution. Instead of making everything about the immigration debate, our society should be focusing on bettering itself in MANY ways (not just the one solution that springs to mind: kick out the illegals) and this includes providing to our children the one thing in life that they MUST have to be a productive member of society: a *QUALITY* education. Maybe closing and reforming schools for a fresh start isn't such a bad idea.
