Goodman fails to enlighten readers
Amy Goodman’s column of Sept. 16, “Another wall also cuts off Israel-Palestine debate here,” a rehashing of President Jimmy Carter’s distorted talking points on the Middle East, does little to enlighten Rocky readers on a complex issue.
We don’t understand how a syndicated columnist published in a major American newspaper can write about the Israel-Palestine issue and then claim an “absence of debate.” A passionate discussion on both sides of the issue is taking place all across our country. To claim otherwise — while also asserting “powerful political forces” keep peace talks at bay — is absurd.
What’s really keeping peace talks from advancing is the lack of a Palestinian partner for peace. Unfortunately, Israel can’t agree to tear down the wall in the present climate — such action would ensure a return to suicide bombers and loss of innocent life.

What do you expext from the media. Anything that may appear to be proIsreali is bad and oppressive. Never mind that suicide bombers target innocents as primary targets. That the palistinians really do not want peace. That historically the land was Isreali long before 1948. (facts from National Geographic history channel).
That the movement of holocost denial is invogue not just from Iran but here in America as well.
Isreal has a right to defend itself dispite popular opinion.
Jimmy Carter is a fool and people who take this senial old man serious are as crazy as he is.
Posted by on October 8, 2007 04:56 AMIn 1967 on USS Liberty, Israel illegally attacked this vessel in international waters, where they murdered 34 US sailors and injured another 174. Their excuse? MY BAD! The North Koreans quickly followed Isreal's lead, and in international waters they attacked USS Pueblo (spy ship), where they murdered a US sailor and made the other 82 crew members POW's for 11 months. PUEBLO still sleeps in North Korea.
President Carter and former US Rep. Cynthia McKinley, are the "only" Americans to call Israel what it is (backbone). The Middle East is a plantation, just like our plantations of old. You have a load of coloreds being controlled a few heavily armed whites (Israel). America is just as vile as Israel because we give them weapons to keep Arabs in a state of involuntary servitude.
Posted by 40acresandmymuleandNAMvetbennies on October 8, 2007 07:14 AMI think it is fine if you want to support an exclusively hebrew, apartheid country in the middle east. Please! Don't do it with my tax dollars and Please! get your AIPAC lobby out of spying on my government! i.e. Rosen and Weissman. And Please! tell us Why you attacked the USS Liberty (an act of war).
And also, If you did want a partner for peace, why do you keep killing them off? i.e. government policy of targeted assinations?
If you want peace with the palestinians, why did you put them in a the worlds' largest concentration camp, Gaza? That is not going to foster peace. You don't want peace. You want the land.
40acres, What? Are you jealous that the jew has suffered far greater than the black man? Palestine was the Roman occupation name for Isreal. Thus Jews are palestinians. It would be nice if some people would spend sometime learning history before they state their opinion. Arabs are enslaving people this very day. Islamists are murdering people for their faith...but crawl back under your rock and ignore the truth...blame the jews.
Posted by T on October 8, 2007 08:05 AMSteven and Gale, I find the title of your organization dishonest and a fraud. You are the American Zionist Committee. A number of Jewish Americans find the destructive actions of Israel on Palestinians to be Crimes Against Humanity. You certainly do not speak for those Jews.
Amy Goodman's observations were accurate. A discussion of Israel and it's actions does not exist and the ones that happen are biased in favor of Zionists. The vast majority of media commentators (maybe 90% or more) favor Zionists. In the Talk Show world nearly all hosts are pro-Zionist and will not even let a caller bring points to a discussion with-out calling them antisemitic or cutting them off. President Carter's book was exceptional because he has the courage to consistently apply his Principles. He calls actions evil regardless of who commits them- Nazis, White Supremacists or Zionists.
Some rhetorically questions - Does God favor some people more than others? Is God a county clerk that issues property deeds? Does God have some map in His office that designates land allocation for different religions and peoples?
Americans believe that "all people are created equal" which argues against God playing favorites. Americans believe that governments owes a duty to ALL people under their control to treat them equally, allow them to participate in the election process and to insure them the protection of the law (we had a civil war over one point, and we made changes in the way we treat Native Americans, minorities and women).
Israel has done NONE of those things for the Palestinians under Israel's control. Israel and it's supporters hold a 2-state solution (maybe you're the Khane-style genocide types) but was the same type of plan not allowed for South Africa, which is Carter's point.
When we have movies and TV shows with Palestinians as victims and Zionists as bad guys, when media focuses on the human interest side of the Palestinians victims, and when ordinary Americans know that Arab Israelis have yellow license plates on the cars while Jews have blue ones, that Israel has NO constitution to protect all people in Israel and that Palestinians live in concentration camps, maybe then you can say there is a "passionate discussion on both sides of the issue (is) taking place all across our country".
