Hard to take seriously
Tuesday, October 30 at 12:01 AM

On Oct. 8, letter writer Stephen McBrayer lambasted a previous letter writer for his anti-war stance, implying that dirty bombs, poisoned water and exploding trains are coming to America if we don’t continue the fight in Iraq (“The politically correct will destroy this nation”).
But I found it hard to take McBrayer’s “concern” seriously when I noted that his address is listed as Aurora rather than a fire base in the Middle East.

I support this war 1000% as long as I don't have to fight it and especially as long as I don't get taxed for it. God Bless America!!!!

Infinite lip service for patriotism. Just don't ask me to suffer any inconvenience or expense...

And since you live in Evergreen away from cities, colleges, the arts, and poverty, you don't care about and are not entitled to an opinion about any of those issues. Since you are male you may not have an opinion or care about abortion issues, right?

Your reasoning is flawed. Civilization involves division of labor, which is different people doing different things, all of which are part of a larger whole.

Your inability to understand that basic fact of civilization argues that you should improve your education.

The war is a joke. Huge mistake and the sooner we figure it out the better.

Liberals have known that this war has been a war for profit from the beginning.
Only the very rich and/or very stupid still support Bush and Company,
Either way, they should be very ashamed of themselves, but they won't.

Greed and stupidity are easily manipulated, unfortunately, and Bush has accomplished what Osama has wanted all along , to terrorize Americans and take advantage of that same greed and stupidity.

May God strike both spoiled, rich, sadistic bastards down in a long, lingering death.

freethinker,
You seem to think that I don't believe Mr. McBrayer should have an opinion. I didn't say that - I said it was difficult to take his concern SERIOUSLY, as he is drawing a doomsday scenario for our country, in which case it is his obligation as a citizen to work for America's defense if he is able. I must admit, he may be handicapped or elderly, or working for a defense contractor, or even a soldier on leave, and if that is the case, I retract my comment and believe his concern may be real, and not rhetorical.

As for your "division of labor" argument, that was my point. As Mr. McBrayer pointed out himself, he feels the stiuation is dire. In that case, those able to carry the fight to the enemy (admittedly, Mr. McBrayer may not be one of those) should be doing so, dividing the labor into those who can fight (over there) and those who cannot (over here.). I wholeheartedly agree with you. It appears he is not doing his part in the epic struggle he describes.
