Immigration article bias
Your bias is hanging out for all to see. Reporter Fernando Quintero’s article (“Little middle ground at immigration debate,” Sept. 28) is a blatant example of yellow journalism. This man is not a reporter, he is an advocate for La Raza, and his propaganda is transparent to any reader.
In his “report” on an immigration debate between former Gov. Richard Lamm and assistant economics professor Benjamin Powell, he devotes all of 83 words to Lamm’s position (against illegal immigration) and a full 181 words to Powell’s position (for illegal immigration). In previous articles on the recent Greeley meeting on the impact of criminal activity by illegal aliens upon locals, he used words like ominous to describe music and took pains to point out the size of attendees’ belt buckles and cowboy hats, as if that made them comical or less important as an audience.
I’m tired of this man’s ridicule of legitimate citizen concerns. If he cannot even try to be fair to issues, his tripe should appear on the opinion page.

I just love being pimped and exploited by criminal illegal Mexicans, Vatican, Mexican gov't, Wal-Mart, etc. I am just giddy that my home-boy, Rev. Al Sharpton has joined Wal-Mart as a criminal illegal Mexican political lobbyist. My 43 "suits and dresses" in the Congressional Black Caucus-CBC-comical blacks in congress, aren't on Wal-Mart's payroll. However, they and the NAACP are just cowering in fear of LARAZA; US Sen. Shamnesty Salazar, captain, S.S. Amnesty (just another slave ship); Richardson; Sen. Martinez, etc.
I am just tickled pink that a few decades ago, as a child, I watched blacks die at the entrance of hospital emergency rooms, just because they were black and poor. Today I get to pay criminal illegal Mexicans medical bills in those same hospitals. I was also denied admission to the University of North Carolina, just because of the skin I'm in. Thanks to Richardson, Skaggs, Ritter, and Salazar, I get to pay the college tution of criminal illegal Mexicans, in educational institutions that wouldn't admit me.
I was also denied enlistment in the NC National Guard because I flunked their "hue" test. The Guard and VISTA were Vietnam sanctuaries for the likes of Bush, Quayle, Chips Barry, etc. I want to thank Cong. Bush for violating Truman's executive order which desegregated all of our military units. Cong. Bush also violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (resegregated all of our military units), which he carved out a NAM sanctuary slot for "W" in the racially segregated Texas Air National Guard.
Last but not leastly, is George Romney. When NAM brokeout, Mitt broke for France and his Mormon mission (racially segregated). Mormon laws supercede federal military draft laws. George got Mitt an illegal religious draft deferment. Black Muslim Elijah Muhammad sought a religious draft deferment and he was rewarded with a 3 year federal prison sentence. His son, Wallace D. Muhammad, south the same deferment, and Wallace was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison too. Mitt owes blacks 3 years in federal prison.
In the aggregate, I think draft dodgers like Barry, Bush, Salazar, Richardson, Quayle, Owens, Allard, Martinez, and Mitt, should be deployed to Ft. Leavenworth, KS or SuperMax, for prison weddings.

Posted by on October 20, 2007 06:50 AMIt's not about race or color, it's about legal or illegal. The focus is on mexican illegals because they are the majority of the illegals at this time. If it were any other mass of people from any other country, they would be the targeted group as well.
This country should never allow a group of illegals amnesty based on the tired old garbage of political expediency. Illegal is illegal under any circumstances and applies to all equally. Case Closed.
Posted by Allen Campbell on October 20, 2007 06:55 AMDenise, Good letter. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Keep em coming. If one looks on he front page here you have "Scripps Academy for Hispanic Journalism" . I guess Mexican/Latino imperialistic propoganda is " journalism" these days.
Posted by Ben's Border Street on October 20, 2007 07:33 AM40acres, can you get on the topic of the original letter? Or will this thread merely consist of people's reactions to your bitter rants?
Posted by Denise Luepschen on October 20, 2007 07:34 AMPolitical expediency my left foot. It is caving to business demands for cheap labor, plain & simple. If the the Feds want to make the illegal immigration issue end, the solution is to prosecute, fine & even jail the illegal EMPLOYERS, which is precisely what the EU is doing to solve their illegal immigration problem (which is only to the tune of 500,000 illegals per year across Europe). If it starts hitting business in the pocket book, and repeat offenders face jail time, they will do their best to only hire legal employees (citizens and valid green card & work permit holders). If there are no jobs, do you really believe that illegals will come here? Yes - this will probably raise cost of goods; however, so base wages will also increase.
As far as the business and Mr. Fox's (the former president of Mexico) canard that "illegals are only doing jobs Americans won't do", I would like to point out that when the Swift plant was raided by ICE, legal workers literally lined up around the block for the jobs, and most were turned away. While some illegals do work in the agriculture industry, most are working construction, landscaping, meat packing - all jobs which used to be the backbone of the blue collar works in this country.
As far as not finding enough workers to replace the illegals, I will believe that is an issue when the rolls of those waiting (some for 20 years or more) to come to this country legally. Depending on the site, there are somewhere between 4-8 million folks who have already passed the security clearance. I suspect that the folks who have waited the longest have probably married, and may have children; however, it should be no problem to run the security clearance on the spouse, and those clearances may be unnecessary depending on the age of the children (I certainly hope that children under say 6 years of age are not considered a threat). Once that labor pool has arrived, if there still appears to be a labor shortage, the country can discuss raising the immigration limits - NOT BEFORE.
Now the 2 questions are: how important is this issue to you - and does the person you plan to vote for in the upcoming presidential election have the same view?
Posted by Mary on October 20, 2007 07:41 AMSo far I've only heard the Republican candidates come out and boldly state. They will build the wall all the way from San Diego and deport illegal aliens. No Amnesty!
I've heard from Democrats they want to deport criminal illegal aliens and some don't think the fence is a good idea. They use words like" comprehensive" and "established immigrants". They want to allow them access to SCHIP,and entitlement programs, they want to allow them SS benefits.
When are the candidates and people who think illegal aliens are harmless and should be given the store, while the owners are on vacation realize ,the second they step foot in this country they have committed a crime and we all know the many crimes that come after that.
For some reason the government and any one who does not support deportation and upholding the laws of this country think an illegal has to kill someone to be labled criminal, they have to rape someone, rape a child, run you over with their unlicensed, uninsured car, they have to shoot a police officer etc...
However if you arrest an illegal for DUI 4 or 5 times ,unlicensed and unisured, molest children, steal from you, beat up their wives or girlfriends, get stopped for traffic ,have child after child and never paying for them, violations, drug offenses etc... they do not think these are deportable offenses even though they are breaking many laws just being in this country.
Here's what needs to be done.
The fence should be built immediately.Use prisoners if you have to.The fence should model San Diego's 2 fences with room in between for support vehucles.
More Border Agents with all the high tech stuff that homeland security has to help them do their jobs better.
National Guard Helicopters equipped with night vision and any thing that will help detect tunnels and border crossers.
After the fence goes and covers every square inch of the U.S. border. The fence facing the Mexican side should be electricfied and notices put up any attempt to cross over or go under the fence will subject you to being shot.
Then we methodically empty out the prisons of all illegals here serving time for crimes and deport them back to Mexico. Then the jails, then go after the mexican businesses that are blatantly owned and operated by illegals, then this will start sending a message to all businesses you better start reporting who is illegal in your business or be subject to fines of $50,000 per illegal.
Then the schools if a child is illegal or a child's parent's they should be deported. If the child was born here to illegal parents they have the choice of taking their child with them when they are deported or leaving them with legal family members.
The Supreme Court needs to define the border baby issue or Congress and the Senate need to clear this issue up. I don't think because you had a baby in this country and you are illegal that baby is legal.
When we get the millions of illegals deported it will give them a chance to change their own countries, not ours. They have the power to make their contries better, not ours worse.
English will be the official language,no more signs, telephone ,ballots, documents etc.. in Spanish.
The only thing in spanish is the deportation papers.
To me this issue is bigger than the war , because we as a country are losing ,people to crimes committed by illegals, jobs, wages, billions of dollars in services, schools are failing,we are losing our identity.
Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on October 20, 2007 07:52 AMWe can express our opinions and our disdain about how this country ignores our immigration laws 'til the cows come home.
We need to march, bombard our spineless leaders, shout from the rooftops, whatever it takes to be heard beyond these pages. These pages are not seen by the majority. I have not spoken with ONE American who is not disgusted with this mess, yet many do nothing to be heard.
The American people have had it with this blatant disregard for the laws that were written to protect us, both on the part of our government and the lawbreakers who laugh at our laws.
Call the office of all Senators at (202) 224-3121 and the White House opinion line at (202) 456-1111 as many times as you can. DEMAND action and change.
Posted by c on October 20, 2007 08:39 AMI'm afraid the solutions in this forum are too little to late. Fences won't work without massive numbers of troops to patrol them, and who among the blue collar working population can afford higher taxes to pay for that kind of solution. No, that would never get off the table, so what can be done? Take an already over funded agcency like the IRS and sick them on those who hire illegals. If you stop the employers you stop the increase in illegals.
Next, you track down those remaining by requiring another over funded agency, the BATF, to use their highly developed technology to assist local police.
Any additonal funds could be taken from the absurdly flawed, incompetent and failed war against drugs, primarily grass, that is an example of government not paying attention to the real threats to our way of life and ignoring the best interests of the people.
Posted by Allen Campbell on October 20, 2007 10:11 AMWhat's that you're saying Denise? Reporters can be biased and twist a story to push an agenda? Thanks for that news flash.
And in other breaking news, it's been found that water is wet.
Posted by on October 20, 2007 10:32 AMWhat the American public truly knows about illegal immigration is miniscule. This is not an attack on them. The media, the News included, has conducted a concerted campaign to prevent the American people from learning the full extent of the problem.
Half of the aliens illegally in this country, ie, here in violation of law, came here with passports in hand and simply did not go home. Although the large majority of illegal aliens are from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and other parts of Latin America, there are large numbers of illegals from Canada (yes, Canada), Europe, Africa, Asia, and most notably, the Middle East.
America has to wake up, stop hitting the snooze button on the alarm, and take decisive action to make it clear to our elected officials that "We The People" (remember us?) want the issue of illegal immigration solved, and solved without giving an ESTIMATED 12-20 million illegals any form of amnesty. That means No DREAM Act, Senator Salazar. It means no amnesty, no "earned path to citizenship", and absolutely no "comprehensive immigration reforem" (translation: Amnesty)
It has been shown categorically that when enforcement is applied, illlegal aliens leave the areas where strong enforcement inititiatives are enacted. The phrase for this is "attrition through enforcement".
I agree that the employers need to be held accountable. So should the cities and states who have sanctuary policies in place. Lastly, those countries who knowingly encourage its citizens to come here illegally should be sued for any crimes their citizens commit here in the US by the victims of these crimes.
It's simply a matter of economics. If we make it too costly to hire illegal aliens, the magnet disappears. It's that simple. It's up to us to ensure that happens. We must have the national will to do this.
Posted by John Sampson on October 20, 2007 01:41 PMDenise,
Good letter, you're right, the articles are not
FAIR OR BALANCED.
If you see Out In The Open with Rick Sanchez
on CNN he's the same.
John Sampson,
I couldn't say it any more clearly.
Why aren't the BOZOs leading this country listening? The problem is easy to solve. Take away the jobs and they won't come and won't want to stay.
Simply enforce the law in every way.
Posted by c on October 20, 2007 03:12 PMWhat I want to know is why there is even a debate about illegal immigration. These people have committed crimes. First they committed a crime in either Mexico or Canada by crossing their border into the U.S., then another when they entered the U.S., then another International law by violating soveriegn states(nations) borders. If they gain lawful employment in the U.S. it is with the use of illegally (i.e. forged) documents. So when people state that these people have not any harmful crimes they have. Wars are often fought over issues of border violations, it is a FELONY to use/make fored documents. These people have no legal rights in the U.S. as they currently are not U.S. citizens and should never be granted this precious right.
Posted by Scott on October 20, 2007 07:48 PMWhat part about the vast majority of Americans supporting a guest worker program with a path to citizenship do you far right wingnuts not understand?
Posted by jay on October 20, 2007 10:34 PMWell Jay, show me where I can find the supporting data for your statement? Just because people do not want illegal aliens, doesn’t mean they are "far right wingnuts" (your spelling, not mine).
Your statement is the typical immature response most advocates provide. Instead of calling people names why not try providing some facts, not unsubstantiated statements???

Posted by truthy on October 21, 2007 08:42 AMI'm glad you asked, Fooled.
I'm always happy to do a little tutoring. Now remember...I'm just proving that the vast majority of Americans agree that our best option to deal with the illegal immigrants already here is to help those who qualify eventually achieve citizenship through a guest worker program. I've also included information about the vast majority of Americans' feelings on deportation.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't fix our obviously broken immigration system....just that you folks on the minority in regards to the illegal immigrants already here...are just that...a vast minority.

Take a look, liberal NBC news, liberal bias and low ratings.
The American citizenry shot down amnesty for illegal aliens twice in the past 8 months, yet he would have us believe Americans want to be invaded by Mexico and Latin America.

Better lay off the Cali/mexican drug pcp dude!
I am late to the party but, I agree with everyone who comes down squarely on the side of "what does anyone not understand about the word, illegal...."?
I am a forgiving, accepting person but why should I and, the members of my family, obey the laws of this country when others are being given a pass ?
We have been sold out by our government and big business. I own stock in several of those businesses, as well, but, I dont condone or approve of "the bottom line at any cost" and am trying to put my money (such as it is) where my mouth is.
Also, I am speaking out to my said representatives in "my" government as to my displeasure with their actions.
I am also writing to companies that print English and Spanish instructions and tell them I will not knowingly buy their products anymore until they change this. English is the language of international business, let people learn to speak English not that we learn Spanish.
Impeach Bush.
