Impeach Cheney
If Cheney is allowed to escape impeachment, you, as an elected government official will be sending the message to the whole world that America is no longer a democracy, and that our government officials are above their own laws. How is that dangerous? We will be seen as ignorant hypocrites who flaunt our so called freedom and democracy with no true knowledge of what freedom or democracy really are. Meanwhile, the very man who stripped away so many of our constitutional freedoms is allowed to walk away unhindered. This has gone on long enough. It is time for justice to be served, so that we Americans can regain our honor.
Support the impeachment of Cheney.
Make democracy strong again.
This letter has not been edited.
Better yet, draft the fat coward.
Posted by on October 10, 2007 02:20 PMI would like a list of the rights that Mr. Cheney has taken from you.
Also - How did he take those rights away without the action of Congress?
Why would Congress Impeach someone with whom they are complicit?
I would rather throw them all out and start over. The next election is the chance for an all new congress and a third of the Senate. I see no reason to vote for any incumbant.
Posted by Frank Discussion on October 10, 2007 02:27 PMI'm with Frank. We should also seriously consider someone other than the current crop of pres hopefuls. Keep an eye out for who the Independant runners will be. I'm sure we can find one head and shoulders above these.
Posted by KW on October 10, 2007 02:33 PMYeah. I agree with Frank D and KW. The whole batch of politicians has failed us. It's time for third party candidates to step up!
Posted by on October 10, 2007 02:47 PMMs. Gerhardt:
As Frank and KW already asked, what constitutional freedoms has the Vice President stripped from any of us? This is a legitimate question.
Secondly, we do not live in a democracy, no matter how much you may wish we did. So a return to something we have never experienced is not only irrational, but futile. We live in what is called a Constitutional Republic. I'm sorry to be the bearer of this news to you.
Thirdly, do you understand the rules of Impeachment? That there must be evidence brought forth of "high crimes and misdemeanors" (not just things that piss you off), and then articles of impeachment must be drawn by the House of Representatives? Do you really even know what you are writing about, or did someone once tell you that Dick Cheney should be impeached, and in your ignorance, you jumped right on that bandwagon going nowhere?
Finally, I ask you if you even understand what the word impeachment means. Let's pretend for a moment that we live in your reality, and Vice President Cheney is impeached. Would you be satisfied? Or would you then hope for a conviction by 67 Senators and subsequent removal of office by the Senate? You do understand that impeachment means nothing right? That of the three Presidents ever impeached, not ONE of them was convicted and removed from office. You do know that right?
So, my final question to you is, is it your qualifying motive to do nothing more than embarrass the Vice President of the United States with Impeachment, or are you actually hoping for his conviction and removal?
Posted by Dan2 on October 10, 2007 02:56 PMTwo presidents, Dan2. Nixon was not impeached. That crook resigned before the vote.
Posted by on October 10, 2007 03:02 PMHmmm... I don't know the technicalities of this, but the House Judiciary committee on July 30, 1974 resolved to impeach the President. He resigned 10 days later.
I am going to say that I stand corrected, and that Nixon was not impeached, because he did not face the full vote of the House of Representatives. Great catch anon!
Posted by Dan2 on October 10, 2007 03:12 PM"Better yet, draft the fat coward."
C'mon, anonymous, would you like to be in a foxhole with that tub of lard brandishing a rifle? My god, he can't even hunt pigeons without committing mayhem. Do you want our casualties to increase dramatically?
Posted by drew on October 10, 2007 03:17 PMimpeach teddy boy as he took the freedom of life and liberty from Mary Jo. oh wait that cant happen he is not a republican is he mel?
I have check all sources I can find and there is not one, evern the very liberal of the liberal papers and news programs that have ever published a list of rights we have lost because of Dick Cheney.
did the voices write the list for you?
The rights Cheney, Bush and Gonzales have worked to eliminate include habeus corpus, free speech, freedom of assembly, the right to an attorney, the right not to be tortured, and the right to not be afflicted by the incompetence and arrogance of this worst of all possible administrations. Impeach Cheny, then Bush. Then put them on trial and imprison both of the SOBs.
Posted by Exhoosier24 on October 10, 2007 03:51 PMExhoosier24,
Rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States apply ONLY to CITIZENS of the United States. From reading your post, you claim that we no longer have habeas corpus, free speech, freedom of assembly, or the right to an attorney.
Are you sure you are not writing about President Roosevelt?
It seems you may have your era's confused, although I shouldn't expect reasoned opinion from a Hoosier... (tongue in cheek kidding of course) ;o)
Posted by Dan2 on October 10, 2007 04:21 PMExhoosier24 - Thank you for providing your list.
According to the Constitution, the Congress has the right to suspend Habeus Corpus. I was not aware that there was such an action taken. Are you implying that the Patriot Act (Which has a Sunset Provision attached) suspends Habeus Corpus for more than terror related activities?
Explain the loss of Free Speech.
Explain the loss of Freedom of Assembly.
The courts have modified the right of attorney and Congress has the power by the Consititution to impose military justice on military combantants.
There is no right not to be tortured. The constitution addresses cruel and unusal punishment as a result of court actions.
The last is just hate bleeding through
Posted by Frank Discussion on October 10, 2007 04:24 PMDoes the "Denver 3" ring a bell, Frank?
Posted by on October 10, 2007 04:54 PMDan2, You are confusing this thread with facts and logic. Please stop, this is a "how you feel" blog.
Posted by on October 10, 2007 04:59 PMMs. Gerhardt is correct. Impeachment is long overdue. Get rid of that fat coward and let him take his stooge, Bush, with him
Posted by Rheingold on October 10, 2007 06:37 PMTrue Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on the dinner menu. A Constitutional Republic arms the sheep.
Posted by clyde on October 10, 2007 08:56 PMMy only suggestion - After they are impeached, shackle them and put them on an airplane to The Hague to stand trial for war crimes and genocide.
Posted by Mike on October 10, 2007 09:00 PMThose who are suffering from Bush Derangment Syndrome would not know torture, loss of liberties, if it bit them in the ass.
Thier idea of freedom and liberties is for them and not those who oppose thier thinking. Thats facisim and oppression. But hey remember they are the ones who claim to be the enlightened thinkers of a progressive movement.
Posted by on October 11, 2007 03:39 AMHey Melanie,
You start out saying:
If Cheney is allowed to escape impeachment, you, as an elected government official will be sending the message to the whole world that America is no longer a democracy, and that our government officials are above their own laws.
Last I checked Melanie we lived in a Constitutional Republic - with democratic institutions - not a Democracy out right.
Better go back and think about what you are trying to convey because when start out with a false statement like that your argument is that much weaker.
Also, if you have evidence to support impeachment then by all means let us remove him from office, if not than stop re-writting your daily Deomcratic party talking points it is really getting tiring.
Having attend many policitical events of all stripe (because I like to hear all points of view) I can attest that all politicians try to keep the opposition out of their events.
Posted by Frank Discussion on October 11, 2007 07:16 AMFrank Discussion displayed his ignorance:
According to the Constitution, the Congress has the right to suspend Habeus Corpus.
...in times of rebellion or invasion. Neither of those scenarios is in play...
I was not aware that there was such an action taken.
Are you familiar with the case of Jose Padilla?
Are you implying that the Patriot Act (Which has a Sunset Provision attached) suspends Habeus Corpus for more than terror related activities?
Wait! How do we know someone has committed "terrorist related activities" if they don't have access to courts or a lawyer to protest their innocence?
Therein lies the slippery slope that you would so gleefully like to slide down.
Posted by Charles B. on October 11, 2007 07:27 AMNot enough time to make impeachment worth while. I say feed him some extra think bacon and watch his heart explode.
Posted by on October 11, 2007 08:03 AMThanks Frank, Jack, Dan. It is wonderful to see a well thought out route of the mindless. Charles---Jose Padilla? That’s the example? My advice to all who fear the “persecution” Jose Padilla endured, is to not approach Al-qaida offering to build and detonate a dirty bomb in the US, than accept training and cash from Al-qaida and return to the US. “Enemy Combatant” sounds like an apt description, but if you like “Convicted Terrorist” better, so be it……….
Posted by kobetabber on October 11, 2007 09:09 AM.....the message ... that America is no longer a democracy, and ... our government officials are above their own laws.
Honey, THAT SHIPPED SAILED!!
We will be seen as ignorant hypocrites who flaunt our so called freedom and democracy with no true knowledge of what freedom or democracy really are. ...
Again, THAT SHIPPED SAILED.
We have allowed truly EVIL men to take over the controls.
One can only hope that Prick Cheney goes hunting with someone who doesn't know how to shoot straight.

Posted by Keith on October 11, 2007 09:21 AMKobetapper said regarding Jose Padilla:
"Enemy Combatant” sounds like an apt description, but if you like “Convicted Terrorist” better, so be it……….
Tell us how long he was held before being granted the chance to defend himself.
Did you know you had the right to a speedy trial Kobetapper?
Did you know you were protected from cruel and unusual punishment? Or from unreasonable searches and seizures?
But hold on! Apparently you don't have either the rights or the protections that you thought. Think what you want about Jose Padilla- my intention is not to defend his actions- but consider his story when you rationalize away your rights with such nonchalance through appeals to fear. You should fear the loss of your rights under the constitution much more than you should fear terrorism.
Posted by Charles B. on October 11, 2007 09:47 AMI’ll restate the above “Enemy Combatant”. Let’s make this simple via illustration. In 1942 I approach Yamamoto with my desire to plant explosives in the San Pedro shipyard as a sympathizer to Imperial Japan. I receive explosive training and money from Japan, return to LA where I am arrested. Am I an “Enemy Combatant”? I believe you’d have to say yes. While I also possess US citizenship, as a citizen I am entitled to specific rights; I am now an “Enemy Combatant” and as such have a different legal standing. If I acted alone, did not receive money from Japan; then I would be only a citizen (albeit a questionable one) and entitled to the due process requisite of a US citizen.
Is that sufficient? No? Let’s start over. Pretend I’m a …………………..
Melanie, the United States of America is a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy.
Never has been a Democracy, check the Pledge of Allegiance & other papers.
There is no need to waste the time and money involved to impeach the Veep either, just vote for Dr. Ron Paul for president.
Of course the Patriot Act is nothing of the sort.
And who cares about the loss of habeus corpus? As they say, if you ain't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Right. Seriously though, you can defend the Constitution now, or defend your lives later.
"I can attest that all politicians try to keep the opposition out of their events."
That's a bald-faced lie, but if it makes you feel better about your gutless chimp master, go with it.
Posted by on October 11, 2007 12:14 PMJust let Cheney take Bush hunting. After he shoots & kills Bush they can prosecute him. 2 birds with one stone, nice and tidy
Posted by Iggy on October 11, 2007 12:21 PMAnonymous Poster 12:14PM - Since all you have posted in pure emotion with nothing to back up your statement, it is painfully obvious that you do not want to take part in a serious debate or discussion of the issue, only vent, rage, and call people names.
It is not possible to make progress until meanfully discussion of positions takes place and a mutual understanding is reached.

I think you need to familiarize yourself with the case of Jose Padilla before you embarrass yourself further with your misunderstanding of his case..
First answer a simple question: Where/How was he tried?

tomaetoe, tomawtoe, what's the dif, right?
Posted by KW on October 11, 2007 04:45 PMActually, that ship sailed a long time ago, KW.
Due to a healthy thirst for knowledge, and my job, which has, at times, taken me to, shall we say 'colorful' locations on the planet, I've been harrassed at airports, questioned extensively, and have had most of my phone conversations over the past several years, tapped. (Almost all calls generated into or out of countries with large percentages of muslims are illegally tapped.)
So... it's not new to me. I'm not worried, either.
KISSES!
Posted by Sheila on October 11, 2007 07:25 PMChuck-I'm certain you believe Padilla innocent and deserving of the Freedom Medal. Padilla was convicted of conspiracy not terrorism. But who cares? My illustration is an analogous portrayal of Padilla’s actions, not the legal process to convict him. When reading, try to focus on what the writer is writing about not on what you want to talk/write about.
Posted by kobetabber on October 12, 2007 09:36 AMSheila, your son isn't a sniper is he.
Posted by on October 12, 2007 09:50 AM"Chuck-I'm certain you believe Padilla innocent and deserving of the Freedom Medal."
Just another instance where you're totally and completely wrong kobetapped.
You tell me I should read before responding while continually revealing a penchant for not doing the same.
It's still obvious that you aren't familiar with the Padilla case or the relevant court decisions regarding it, so I won't bother to discuss it with you further..
