Marathon more like an obstacle course
Thursday, October 25 at 12:01 AM

On Oct. 15, the day following the running of the Denver Marathon, in a box
beside the news story covering the event was a list of facts on the marathon
that provided some statistics about that day.
It would have been instructive to include the numbers of people stuck in traffic
while heading for a downtown church the same day, and the length of time spent
in those frustrating jams!
The obstacle course churchgoers must run on many Sundays during the summer is an increasingly irritating fact of attendance
at downtown churches. It does have an impact on attendance.
If the city can make accommodation for attendees at events, some consideration
for those going to church on Sunday could be offered by making available to the
churches alternate routes from various sectors of the metropolitan area.

Oh, you poor, poor churchgoers. Yes, I think the City should set aside lots of money to help you out. Tons of money. After all, the churches are so poor.

Perhaps, on those days in which it's difficult to get to your downtown church, you could volunteer somewhere. Anywhere away from the "event" that's keeping you from your house of worship would work.

Would whatever god you follow prefer you to help people or to complain that you can't get into the temple?

It's another conspiracy of the godless urbanites or godless healthnuts...I can't decide.

Geez, people, give the letter writer a break! All he did was point out that the way the marathon course was designed, it was damn near impossible for folks, including myself, to go to church. It's a valid point. The route laid out for the marathon seemed designed to isolate Capitol Hill, and its many churches from the rest of the city.

We should be so lucky!

I volunteered at a water station during the marathon and actually had a church-going woman cuss at me for being in the way!

Jesus, protect me from your followers.
