More children need health care
Tuesday, October 16 at 12:01 AM

I am fortunate to receive my health care through Medicare. It’s not a perfect program, but for more than 40 years it has helped seniors like me get affordable health care.
For the past 10 years, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program has done the same for low-income kids. Until now. I am ashamed to see President Bush veto a bill that would allow this vitally important program to help more of America’s — and Colorado’s — children get the health care they need to start their lives right.
Overturn this veto. Overturn this mistake. Our president is leading us off course, and it is left to us to chart the right path.

dave grow up and show your age and some intelligence. since when do people making 2-300% above the proverty line need a free handout from the government? if you make 60-80k per year you can afford health insurance. the program that is in place works well but liberal progressives like you and the dums want all government control on every part of our lives and this is a start

Unfortunately, 06:11 AM has it right. The only way I could see any kind of subsidy for a family making $60-80k per year is in the event of some medical condition which precludes the child from getting health coverage if the parent(s) change jobs - which, by the way is an argument for some form of a national plan. I really don't want parents to be bankrupted paying for a sick child's health care - on the other hand, since medical expenses are a tax deduction, it irritates me that folks who have enough to be able to itemize (which means that to an extent we taxpayers are already covering some of their health care costs) want even more.

dave you are correct we do need to chart the right course and that is to tell all the liberal socialist out there to move to canada to enjoy their free health care, and please take mikie more with you.
remember hillary care in 93 when it was shot down for being a joke? well she is back and now all of you freeloaders want a hand out again.

Why not, Dave, as long as you step up and pay for it all. And let's have a $25 p/h minimum wage, a BMW in everyone's garage and a $5,000 per month SS check for everyone while you are at it.

Entitlements are killing the kids Dave...Who do you think will eventually have to pick up the trillion dollar tab for socialized medicine, Dave? You?

Let's all have more and let the other guy pay for it!

The bill is flawed and President Bush did the right thing by vetoeing it.

Mary ,medical expenses are not automatically a deduction. It is only deductible if it's 7% of your adjusted gross income.
It is not an automatic deduction like interest on house payments. You must meet a certain criteria.

Medical Insurance costs a lot more than 7% of my annual income. Why shouldn't I be allowed to deduct that from my taxes?

thank goodness for the presidents veto. at least it has stopped for awhile lcongress' desire to take away all our monies and then redistribute it to their favorite sponsor.

Posted by on October 16, 2007 01:29 PM

stan b if it was up to a conservitive government you could deduct your medical cost but with your socialist liberal progressivies in power they want all the money you will send them to had out to others to make them feel powerful and needed.

Stan B. , I agree all medical expenses should be deductible. We would benefit greatly if we could at least deduct our insurance premiums. But as it stands now ,you can only deduct medical expenses,Dr.'s,surgery , medicines etc..
No insurance premiums yet.

Why doesn't Hillary instead of wanting to give every newborn $5,000,just give their parents up to $ 5,000 per kid a deduction for all medical costs including insurance?

I think every other taxpayer should pay for anything I want just becase I want it. Isn't that what Hillary is selling the selfish welfare whores?

If Hillary gets elected we will go back and beyond a eelfare country.

No more working for what you want. Just wait for the government handout. While this is going on ,the people who are working for a living and have self pride to provide for their families will be paying for the millions of legal and illegal people who rather wait for the check.

A blank check, signed by Hillary Clinton.
