No to Army expansion
Wednesday, October 3 at 12:01 AM

I am very opposed to Fort Carson acquiring more property for training (“Senate OKs 1-year hold on Piñon site,” Sept. 7). It is very poor from an ecological standpoint to churn up valuable farmland and turn it into a dust bowl by the military. When the Lord said to subdue the Earth it was not the intent of the Almighty to have it subdued by tanks.
We have not been instructed to turn our plowshares into guns. Rather we are instructed to turn our guns into plowshares.

So Helen it is not ok for the military to expand trainnning facilities. Some of which will provide a great experiance and skills that our military needs. It will also enlarge the buffer zone of safety between military excercises and the general public. I wonder then if you are opposed to this precious farm lanmd as you call it being dug up and developed by corporations who want to flood an already over done houseing market.

I get the idea if there is a profiet involved you are ok with it but if it supports the troops you are against it.

Helen I too am against the army taking the land of so many families for a bogus reason.
there is a place in california that could be used as a true excerise for moving troops to combat readyiness and its called 29 palms.
that area would allow the army to move troops and equipment in a more true to life situation rather than just going out back to play.

554 I support the troops and what they are doing but this idea is all bogus. it they sell out to developers then shame on them as I am for keeping the land as it is.

in response to 07:02 and his claim to use 29 plams. Haveing spent lots of time out there. Either up at American Mine or over in Quackenbush lake. This place is already heavily used by the military. Units from the east coast (Camp LeJuene) are there for 5 months out of the year as well as from Camp Pendleton and the units of 29 palms already.

Trainning time and scheduleing makes this as well as Chocolate mountain in Arizona well used.

The enviorment in this area is conducive to dessert and some arrid mountain trainning. Calling it a more true to life situation is very misleading. The military requires geographic differances as deverse as can be. This includes Ft.Bragg and its wilderness areas, the swamps in Louisianna, and the plains of Texas.

By denying the military of room to train is just silly all because you don't like them in your backyard. Remember it is because of them you even have a back yard.

ok lets move this purchase to say vail or aspen or even golden and broomfield as they do have a lot of diverse geography for training. so because of them I have a back yard and because of them I wont even have a back yard or a house. that is what you are saying isnt it?

I'll give a dollar to anybody who can explain this sentence to me:

so because of them I have a back yard and because of them I wont even have a back yard or a house.

Any takers?
