Paul Krugman
Mr. Krugman claims talk show host Rush Limbaugh said that members of the military who oppose the Iraq war are “phony soldiers.” Mr Krugman’s claim is, of course, a complete fabrication. What Mr. Limbaugh really said was that there are many people claiming to be soldiers who really aren’t. He cited a recent case of a “phony soldier” who claimed to have seen our troops torture people in Iraq. Problem was this “soldier” had never been in Iraq, having been kicked out of boot camp. Mr. Krugman’s complete lack of investigation to find out the facts certainly qualifies him as a “phony journalist.”
This letter has not been edited.
Paul Krugman is an example of why the media is losing the respect of the American people. The FAILURE to verify the facts and just repeat statements that fit with his views makes him guilty of bias and hyprocrosy. Before spewing or writing things as fact on should endeavour to verify their information. This is happening all over, such as with global warming. Fact it is occurring, Falsehood that it caused by man, scientist have yet to conclusively prove this. So in order to gain respect one should check their facts.

He also talked about how the left wing was drooling over these people and their comments and had no shame when the truth came out.

You heard all about that incident. Did you hear how he put the letter Harry Reid sent to Clear Channel to try and cause problems for Rush for sale on E-Bay? Did you hear that it sold for 2.1 million dollars? Did you hear that Rush is going to match that amount and all the funds go to MC-LEF? Now why do you think there was so much talk about what the left wanted to twist into a story and no talk at all about a real story?
Guess it must be because the press isn't well....it isn't press or reporters. It's a bunch of liberals telling each other that they are right and their view of things is exactly what they want it to be and no other viewpoint is right.
I pity anyone who doesn't think for themselves and investigate any statement of fact by any media person, right or left. Have the schools totally stopped teaching how to think critically?

Nor do I care to read what Krugman decides are facts when everything he writes is directly off the moveon daily memo. I may as well pretend Olbermann's rants are worth my time.
I'd rather read or listen to someone more centered politically who's thoughts are more fact based and rational.
It takes some searching but these type of reporters do still exist.

But he later said "phony soldiers" a second time in agreement with a caller who said the only true soldiers are those who agree with the president's Iraq policy. That second "phony soldiers" comment implies that soldiers in active service who disagree are phony. Even Limbaugh's transcript shows this. IYou don't have to believe Paul Krugman.

If you will re-read you'll notice I want every statement of fact checked whether I like, hate, love, am married to or have just pointed a gun at the one making the statement. That is what I meant about teaching critical thinking. My 8 year old is crazy about Limbaugh so on Saturday I pick either one show or one hour of one show from the past week and we listen to it. When a statement of fact is made we write it down. When an article or person is quoted we note that. At the end of the time we go back and double check facts, statements and context. I believe it is more important to verify the statements of those you agree with than your opponents. I am teaching her this as well..
Again I don't care who says it, if it can't be verified it is an opinion..nothing more.

They have their celebrities and one of them was Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth. Now, he was a "corporal." I say in quotes. Twenty-three years old. What made Jesse MacBeth a hero to the anti-war crowd wasn't his Purple Heart; it wasn't his being affiliated with post-traumatic stress disorder from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. No. What made Jesse MacBeth, Army Ranger, a hero to the left was his courage, in their view, off the battlefield, without regard to consequences. He told the world the abuses he had witnessed in Iraq, American soldiers killing unarmed civilians, hundreds of men, women, even children. In one gruesome account, translated into Arabic and spread widely across the Internet, Army Ranger Jesse MacBeth describes the horrors this way: "We would burn their bodies. We would hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque."
Now, recently, Jesse MacBeth, poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court. And you know what? He was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim and his Army discharge record. He was in the Army. Jesse MacBeth was in the Army, folks, briefly. Forty-four days before he washed out of boot camp. Jesse MacBeth isn't an Army Ranger, never was. He isn't a corporal, never was. He never won the Purple Heart, and he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen. You probably haven't even heard about this. And, if you have, you haven't heard much about it. This doesn't fit the narrative and the template in the Drive-By Media and the Democrat Party as to who is a genuine war hero. Don't look for any retractions, by the way. Not from the anti-war left, the anti-military Drive-By Media, or the Arabic websites that spread Jesse MacBeth's lies about our troops, because the truth for the left is fiction that serves their purpose. They have to lie about such atrocities because they can't find any that fit the template of the way they see the US military. In other words, for the American anti-war left, the greatest inconvenience they face is the truth.
