Political system supposed to be by & for the people
What is wrong with our politicians and especially our president? How can anyone veto a children’s heath insurance plan that was widely accepted by so many from both red and blue states? Isn’t the President of this great country supposed to represent the will of the people, all of the people? Why does the President think this is his country and that his will is paramount to the will of the people he was elected to represent? It is OUR country and our elected politicians are elected to represent us and what we collectively want, not what the politicians want! How can anyone veto such a bill while also spending so much money in Iraq with at best questionable intent and results? Why do we as a people allow our politicians to continuously embarrass us with their self serving partisan politics? It isn’t a red problem or a blue problem, and if you think so you are allowing your chosen political party to bias you. Both political parties do it and they do it without regard to we the people. I am not affiliated with either political party but I believe strongly in what our political system is supposed to be, for the people, by the people and of the people. Today’s political landscape is for the party, by the party and of the party.
What we need is term limitation. This would help focus the attention of our chosen political representatives to doing the best they can for the duration of their elected term and get their attentions away from trying to get re-elected and playing the party games.
This letter has not been edited.
When many politicians and certainly the president says, We have to protect our interests they mean "our", not your or the peoples' interests. "Our" means the big money people and the needs of the rest of us are not addressed.
Posted by Stan B on October 19, 2007 02:24 PMBe careful, Mr. Land. You said something negative about the President of the United States. You will now receive anonymous slams labeling you as a traitor, un-American, liberal, etc. by a bunch of people, most of whom are too gutless to use a user name. In their world, dissention is not allowed.
Posted by BO on October 19, 2007 02:37 PMBush et. alia. are a prime example of patriotism remaining the last refuge of the scoundrel
Posted by rheingold on October 19, 2007 02:44 PMBush did not veto a poor "children's health insurance plan." He vetoed a middle class/poor, adult/children's health care plan.
Under the legislation, people earning upwards of $80,000 in some cases would have been eligible for health insurance paid by you and me. "Children" as old as 25 would also have been covered.
Is our country moving towards guaranteed health care, guaranteed housing, guaranteed college education, guaranteed from cradle to grave? I hope not.
And by the way G. Land, the system of government you describe is clearly a democracy. We however are a democratic republic where the minority's rights are protected. Our representatives and leaders are supposed to not go along with each little desire of the masses. They are supposed to use their own judgment of the facts and make decisions accordingly.
Posted by Nostra Damus on October 19, 2007 03:19 PMMr. Land,
Term limits isn't the answer.
The answer is in electing candidates that understand and obey the Constitution of the United States of America, and then, we as voters need to hold them responsible by voting against those incumbents that do not uphold their oath of office.
Visit www.ronpaul2008.com to learn more about a Presidential candidate that honors his oath of office.
Posted by Todd Chapple on October 19, 2007 03:22 PMI do not want Bush or next president clinton spending any more of my money on goverment give aways. This plan would of insured people earning up to $80,000 & "children" up to 25 years old

No offense, but where have you been for the past forty years?
Posted by Mac on October 19, 2007 03:43 PMG. Land
In the case of the liberals, leftwingnuts and other anarchists don't you mean "Mob Rule". A famous founding father of this nation said that.
Such a long winded comment and intellectually boring.
It sure isn't the Gettysburg Address but just as long.By the way I hear Lincoln was a Republican and a this is supposed to be a Republic and not a democracy.
I think he also said you guys would vote yourselves the money out of the treasury.
Posted by on October 19, 2007 04:29 PMhow come billie c never passed this when he and algore were in office? wasnt a big concern then I guess and they need something to feel impotent about now so its the Republicans are aginst the kids.
Somebody on the dumocrat liberal progressive side please explain why clinton never passed this off? the only thing they had was hillary care and was never brought up for a vote as it was so bad and now she has it again and its so good?
come on liberals why didnt any of your kind ever pass this before? because it wasnt important then as they knew it was a rotten program that wouldnt work.
we have a SCHIP program but not big enough for you liberal progressives with your hands out.
Bo
Are you still mad? Poor baby. You have the rest of your life to get over it!
What is wrong with you G. Land? Did you read or comprehend the massive increase in spending for those who do not need it? All this would have been is another step towards socializing or healthcare and thus deteriorating the care we get even further.
Why is wrong for me to pay for my childs insurance out of my own pocket rather than letting the taxpayers pay it?
Tell your Dem buddies to re-write the extension legislation with a modest increase but not the massive entitlement for people like me who can and should pay their own way.
G Land,
President Bush informed the Congress that he would veto any bill that was put in front of him that expanded insurance coverage to adults, middle and high income families. The Dems pushed it anyway knowing this would be a political coup for them. This has little or nothing to do about protecting the children it has to do with getting elected in 2008.
If my memory serves be correctly the majority of the people also want the border secured and enforce are current immigration laws. Guess what that has gotten us?
The right are a bunch of idiots. 80,000? Prove it you liars.
Even if true, is 80,000 for a family of four living and working in Manhyatten rich?
Like I said, "IDIOTS"!
Rick,
When your Democrat friends talk about taxing only the rich, their starting point is $103,000. Are you saying a family making $80,000 is poor and needs assistance with their health care but a family making $103,000 is rich and should be taxed at a higher level. Wow! I guess the middle income group is rather small in NYC.

Posted by on October 19, 2007 09:17 PMQuick question....
How does the far right justify and rationalize the fact that their party has refused to enact the wishes of the vast majority of Americans?
Posted by jay on October 20, 2007 10:39 PMWhat SCHIP is, is a program whereby those who can not afford health insurance for themselves have to pay for health insurance for others. And if you believe it can be funded by increased taxes on tobacco products paid by smokers, you must of failed basic economics classes, if you ever took them in the first place. The government has come to the smokers ATM for money far to much as it stands and any futher tax would be a targeted tax on a selected minority segment of the public which is unconstitutional.
This whole house of cards will soon come crashing down on the heads of those who think the government has forests of money trees. They don't fools, it's your tax money they spend as if it will never end, creating a multi trillion dollar deficient in our economy. Ultimately you may see the absurdity and incompetence of those who built it but, it will be to little to late and you will have to watch as the government picks your pocket more and more and there will be nothing they can do about it.

I thought you had grown tiresome of me and were moving on to new things. Apparently, like most extremists (on the far left or right), you are full of crap.
