Put-upon media critic
Poor Jason Salzman, ever the victim. Everywhere this Rocky Mountain News media critic goes he claims he must endure the Independence Institute (“Too much media Independence,” On the Media, Sept. 29).
A simple question, Mr. Salzman: If you are either physically or emotionally incapable of changing the station on your car radio, what are you doing driving a car? Another tech flash for you: The channels on your TV can also be changed at virtually any time.
As to that insensitive newspaper that insists you read it — maybe you need a little vacation, whaddaya think?
Finally, I have noticed that 100 percent of the time when I find someone who claims to be “ ... humble and reasonable ... ” they ultimately turn out to be arrogant and dogmatic. Thanks for keeping my stat in triple digits, Mr. Salzman.

hey jason,
maybe we should all be wearing brown shirts and walking in lockstep
Posted by on October 6, 2007 09:19 AMJason Salzman, in last week's column, made exactly the points I've been wondering about myself ever since I moved to Colorado from California a few years back. Just what is the Independence Institute and why are its representatives seemingly everywhere in the Colorado media?
And then to find out that they are not a mainstream political "think tank" but are, instead, a libertarian one. How did such an organization -- one that represents an extremist political philosophy -- gain such a foothold in the public debate and such influence over policy making in this state? I can't think of any libertarian organization that has a similar level of influence in California.
Since libertarians and greens represent roughly equivalent portions of the voting public, I strongly suggest that each time someone from the Independence Institute is granted a forum in our major media outlets, someone from the Colorado Green Party is allowed the same access.
At least then we can have a policy debate that includes positions that actually make sense.
Posted by RB on October 6, 2007 11:50 AMrb please go back to california and tell them what to do to make you feel good. and by you saying that the green party makes sense I would assume that you have bought all of your carbon credits from algore, correct?
Posted by on October 6, 2007 05:04 PMThat bias liberal media! How many time have rightwing nuts said that?
If you don't like the NYT DON'T READ IT!
Wahwahwahwah!
Posted by Rick on October 8, 2007 08:46 PMNever mind that many of the Founding Fathers were small-L libertarians -- a word whose root is "liberty."
Oh, and if libertarian thought is extreme and the Green Party is closer to the mainstream, that says everything we need to know about RB.
