Republican leadership unfit
It’s not about Democrat and Republican anymore. It has come down to decency vs. indecency. Both Democratic and Republican legislators need to put aside partisan name calling and address and clean up the corruption which is rotting the government from the top down. Pete Stark is right. Any congress person with morals should be expressing the same sentiments. A little more courage and a lot less hypocracy is what we need from all the people we elected.
This letter has not been edited.
Personnally, I wouldn't trust either party to run things. We need to implement tough standards on our politicians. First term limits on both Represenatives and Senators (after all what is good for the goose is good for the gander) Senators should be limited to 2 terms of six years each, and Represenatives to 4 terms of two years each. The Senators, Represenataives, Justices, and President should also have to follow federal employee guidelines and regulations on gifts and meals, and such. Finally, Congress can not vote themselves pay raises but instead pay raises must be put to a vote of the nation at large, i.e. general election. This would reduce the influence of lobbyist and make congress more answerable to their constituents.

Posted by on October 28, 2007 08:32 AMYes and the Democratic party is going to do soooo much better - sheep - Baaa
You speak of putting aside the partisan name calling after you have done just that by slamming O'eilly and Coulter who you've probably never listened to or read - just what you've been told by others.
Of course you do not mention which party answers to, and is driven by the likes of George Soros, Barbra Streisand, Moveon.org, the dailykos, the ACLU, the New York times etc who are all smear merchants trying to destroy this country from the inside out?
That party is your party, The Democratic party !
You sir are as clueless as they come and are getting setup for the great socialism failure these people want to instill upon you and I.
You democrats are all the same - you speak of enlightenment and tolerance but do not practice it. You speak of freedoms and the constitution but want to limit it to those with which you disagree.
Hypocrties
Lot's of conspiracy theorists here.
This is pretty simple folks.
If the Republicans had done a better job they'd still have Congress.
If they would have done a better job, they would keep the WH.
Posted by jay on October 28, 2007 10:22 AMI hate to break the news to you, jay, but Hillary Clinton will never be elected president.
The Republican party has learned from it's mistakes and will soon retake Congress.
The Democrats are getting scared. They have resorted to promising an end to all bad things and flat out bribes for votes:
1) Universal pre-kindergarten
2) $5000 for every newborn
3) Universal health care for everyone
4) College for Everyone
5) $9.50 per hour minimum wage
6) No war in Iraq
7) Higher taxes on the "rich"
8) Lower taxes for those who pay no taxes
9) "Fixing" Social Security by raising taxes
10) The rest of the world will love us
What a bunch of low-life, socialist demagogues.
Posted by John II on October 28, 2007 10:40 AMYou are correct that the Republicans are not fit to run a communist/ socialist country like the dumocrats what around here. so if you want that type of life please go to france where they have it and leave us alone.
Posted by on October 28, 2007 01:50 PM"The Republican party has learned from it's mistakes and will soon retake Congress."
John....that statement isn't rooted in reality because the Rubs continue to obstruct legislation and initiatives with the support of the vast majority of Americans. Thus...they are still making the same mistakes that caused them to lose Congress and continues to harm their credibility
Furthermore, your implication that the american people aren't on board with the dems policy stances is ridiculous at best and willfully ignorant at worst.
The dems are favored by HUGE margins over the rubs in regards to who the american people want in charge of the following issues:
Dealing with global warming
Dealing with health care
Dealing with gas prices
Improving America's standing in the world
Reducing the federal deficit
Dealing with energy policy
Dealing with education
Dealing with homeownership issues
Controlling government spending
Dealing with the economy
Dealing with Iraq
Dealing with immigration
Dealing with ethics in government
Dealing with taxes
Dealing with China
Protecting America's interests on trade issues
Dealing with the war on terrorism
NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll
N=1,005 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.1
No amount of spin is going to make the Republican deficiencies in these areas disappear.
The really pathetic result of such overwhelming favorability for the dems policy stances is that the Rubs simply can't run on theirs or their track record...which means of course that they can't be competitive unless they once again go back to old faithful and warm up the swiftboats.
Like I said....pathetic

Posted by jay on October 28, 2007 02:28 PMjay,
You really love those polls, don't you?
I'm curious where your confidence in polls derives from. According to you, the infinite wisdom of the American people can be found in poll data. But, on the other hand, you are worried about swift boat ads. Why is that? If the people truly feel that the Democrats will handle the two most important issues better than the Republicans, why would they let something like a swift boat ad affect their voting? Perhaps, those polls are not as important as you hope they are.

Take a college level statistics course and get back to me on that one.
"you are worried about swift boat ads. Why is that?"
Because some americans are redneck stupid...and you can fool some of the people all of the time.
Posted by jay on October 28, 2007 09:25 PMjay,
Statistics is purely mathematical. Humans are much more unpredictable. Otherwise, we could cancel the elections and just base it on current polling data.
Again, if you feel that some Americans are stupid enough to change their minds based on campaign ads, how can you trust the accuracy of current polling data? The election is a year away. Hillary will lose.
