Selective outrage
The Rev. Al Sharpton is out and about protesting in favor of the Jena 6 in Louisiana. I wonder: If six white students beat a black student, would he be out there defending the white students?
Leroy M. Martinez, Denver
Stupid question Leroy. He wouldnt be. He proved this when he took his racially bias stance on the Jena 6. A group of young blacks who jumped and beat up a young white who had absolutely nothing to do with the tree and ropes months before.
Al is right though. Justice in this country is not blind. If you are of an ethniticity of nonwhite background, then you can claim or scream all sorts of things. Hate crime, racial slurs ect. Lord forbid if you are white though. Then it is just poor fellow life is tough.
Posted by on October 8, 2007 05:55 AMRemember the Duke rape case? Rev. Al slammed the Duke lacrosse players, and very loudly and very publicly declared them guilty before they even went to trial. He was then was strangely silent (no apologies, no "Hey, I was wrong.") when the case was dropped. That should tell you exactly what kind of person Rev. Al is.
Posted by wolf on October 8, 2007 09:22 AMSlow down, guys. As Americans,Sharpton and his ilk are free to say any thing they please. We're similarly free to say that Sharpton and his ilk are cheap, lying hustlers stealing the pennies off the eyes of dead African-Americans.
Posted by Jimminy on October 8, 2007 10:04 AMwhen is AlShaprton going to apologize for calling the Duke Lacrosse players "racists, haters, and white mother f---kers? After all how can he claim that all white people are racists when he himself does not apologize for his racists statements, or is it do as I say not as I do....
Posted by on October 8, 2007 11:11 AMAl Sharpton would go to Louisiana, not to defend the whites but to demand their imprisonment.
Posted by Stan B on October 8, 2007 11:22 AMIf a person is prejudice, I'm prejudice against them, Al Sarpton included. He makes his money by being prejudice, it's his job to cry out at any real or imaginary alledged sign of anything he decides needs to be ranted and raved about just so long as he has a black audience. He does nothing to heal only to keep the race fires burning which does no person any good black or white or any other color. He is what used to called a professional black, a man with no other job to do but be the blackest of the blacks and be the loudest of the loud in the process of proving he is a true black, as if there were really imitation blacks.
Posted by Allen Campbell on October 8, 2007 12:03 PMWell, not being black,I'm not sure whether there could be imitation blacks outside of the book "Black like Me",but Barak Husein Obama was accused of being "too white" not long ago.Would that make him an imitation black? Would someone say to me for asking that question"That's white of you".
Does black-letter law apply only to blacks? If something raises a red flag in one's mind,is he channeling Geronimo?Lenin? If one is in a brown study is he considering the Latin-American situation? Can the news in China be called yellow journalism?
