Spray the poppies
Since the Taliban is growing 95 percent of the world’s opium poppies, why do we require the approval of the Afghanistan government before we spray the poppy fields? We are at war with the Taliban, whom we supported when we wanted to remove Russia from Afghanistan. Profits from opium are used to support terrorism, and drug sales in this country account for the majority of crime.
George Couchman, Littleton
Yeah, that's the ticket. Spray a bunch of Agent Orange all over the place. Screw the Afghans.
Posted by Bangalong Skunk on October 24, 2007 02:02 AMYou have to be careful of what you spray. As you can tell banged skank would be upset if he lost his drugs do to the war.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 05:11 AMIf our liberal environuts got wind of any such plan, then these moonbats would target the U.S. military as the bad guys, blame Bush and Halliburton and view the Taliban as the innocent victims.
Posted by Hank on October 24, 2007 06:04 AMTaliban? Didn't we defeat them five years ago?
Posted by on October 24, 2007 07:02 AMNo Hank, if Rush Limbaugh and his druggie listeners heard there was a poppy shortage that would rank up there with an oxycotin shiortage..he would not stand for it! he would DEMAND ( which he does often) for freeing the poppy fields!!!!
Posted by mmmm drugs on October 24, 2007 07:19 AMGo easy here Goerge. Get our troops out of the way 1st. I am sitting here dealing with my Agent Orange problems, and so is my family (birth defects). I have disabilities associated with my Agent Orange, monoethanolamine, asbestos and vermiculite, synthethic lubricants, and other cancer causing chemicals. I've been screwed by the Commissioner Social Security Administration (SSA), Rocky Mountain Regions SSA commissioner, and Denver VA leaders. The American Taliban (Bush, K. Salazar, and Allard) are screwing those who served while they cat-napped during NAM. I've waited 7 years for my SSA disability compensation and more than 4 years for my Agent Orange disability pay. Bush (PHONY AIRMAN) is still screwing those who served in his stead. NAM vets and Rocky Flats workers are the best examples of why parents should keep their children out of Iraq-NAM. Ican't get my money, however, the Salazar brothers recently voted in congress (CNN reported) for their own family federal farm subsidy ($484K), which they intend to spend on wages for their criminal illegal Mexican farm workers. I think they should pony up their federal welfare loot and give it to the Flats workers and NAM vets.
Posted by 40acresandmymuleandNAMvetbennies on October 24, 2007 07:22 AMif they didnt grow poppies what would they grow, food?
719 i am so glad you have no life other than to hate people you dont understand. ever wonder how many of your liberal progressive buddies got hooked on doctor prescribed meds? think of how this would hurt the boulder schools in not being able to experiment with drugs.
now go back to your room and play with your self some more.
"If our liberal environuts got wind of any such plan, then these moonbats would target the U.S. military as the bad guys, blame Bush and Halliburton and view the Taliban as the innocent victims. "
They already do
I think what Bangalong meant was look at history. That's exactly what we did to get rid of the excess vegetation in Viet Nam. Now we have VA hospitals full of vets with cancer caused by Agent Orange. I think what was being said is that maybe one should think before they dream up these lame ideas. Now using the poppy field for tank maneuvers, different story. Wake up people, there will be a test.
Posted by CD on October 24, 2007 08:22 AMer, I thought this said "Spray the Puppies" and boy I was really going to get mad.
Posted by Never Mind on October 24, 2007 08:34 AMGeorge: "the Taliban is growing 95 percent of the world’s opium poppies"
It isn't the Taliban that is growing the poppies, it is the peasants trying to feed their families. The Taliban is the middle man who pays the peasants.
Although I'm afraid that General Petraeus' plan is too late, it is based on the right idea, that is, win the hearts and minds of the people. Depriving them of their livelihood without substituting some other way to feed their families is hardly a good win to win them over. The problem in Iraq is that too many people with George's attitude were calling the shots, the shots being aimed at the guilty and innocent alike, the "there's only good and evil, no in between, and we are the good so if you don't agree with us you are the evil" guys.
Posted by Truth on October 24, 2007 08:42 AMIt's the "war on drug users" that provides the massive profit . Just legalize the sh** and let dumbasses kill themselves like we do with cigarettes and booze and RJ Reynolds can make the money instead of criminals and religious fanatics.

Yep, that would be totally practical, there isn't a huge amount of money tied up on the government's side of the drug war, no dogs in the fight from that group.
Posted by drew on October 24, 2007 09:47 AMThis is what happens when our armed forces are forced to take their eyes off the ball and go on snipe hunts in Iraq.
Record opium production is the fiscal engine now driving global terrorism. Add to that the fact that AQ is back at 9/10 levels and our military is at the breaking point...AND the US is less safe and you start to understand the VERY long term ramifications of our incompetent strategic decisions regarding Iraq.
It will literally be decades before we recover.
Thanks Rubs...you're doing a heckuva job.
Posted by jay on October 24, 2007 09:52 AMCould we get some new right-wing morons on here for variety? Reading the mindless spew from the fat greasy Hank and the anonymous Republiturd gets old.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 10:59 AMHow bout we just legalize heroin and regulate it?
And leave the poor puppies out of it. They didn't do anything to you!
Posted by Stoner Dude on October 24, 2007 11:19 AMThere goes drew, our delicate little poppy flower and general bad seed on his usual incoherent drug induced rant. I'm sure he smokes cigarettes and guzzles booze after his illegal drugs run out.
Those opiate and cannabis user atheists sure do hate that agent orange.
How about dropping some radio active nuke waste from our nuke power plants in the form of dust right onto the fields? Dust the fields until they glow. That will put the Taliban out of business for 10 million years...and cause a little heart-burn too!
That might PO and maybe even kill some of the dopers who post here, but that just means more clean air for me!
Posted by Hank on October 24, 2007 12:10 PMActually, George, the Taliban is the only organization in the history of organizations to be successful in the war against drugs. It was during their tenure (for lack of a better choice of words) that the world got the least amount of opium from Afghanistan. Also, we are not at war with the Taliban. According to George Dubya, the mission was accomplished. Hence, the war is over.
Posted by Sheila on October 24, 2007 12:37 PMHank
No, that's too dangerous and expensive. What we need to do is recycle left wingers who use illegal drugs and use their natural poisonous foul chemistry, grind them up and drop their particles on the offending vegitation an voila!, no more poppies or liberals. In a month or so they become fertilizer and then they can grow dates and pomegranates.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 12:49 PMI reccomend anyone interested in Poppy eradication read:
Letter from Afghanistan
The Taliban’s Opium War
The difficulties and dangers of the eradication program.

Afghanis are extremely poor, and the infrastructure for agricultural alternatives to poppies is nonexistant. A badly managed program could do litlle to production but make the Taliban stronger.
Posted by Science Guy on October 24, 2007 12:54 PMhey 12:49 why don't you and Hank enlist? You seem to support the puppet in the White House so why don't you do the right thing and sign up? Don't tell me you are just as big a chickenhawk as Bush and Cheney? Don't be such a blowhard, try to be manly and not in a Larry Craig sort of way.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 02:12 PMIs there even a spray that will kill poppies? You'd better be careful...with the Bush administrations' luck, that spray would convert to nerve gas when exposed to poppies and drift over the United States.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 02:27 PMYo 2:12
That's more "Up Yours" and Barney Franks "Alley". Larry Craig belongs to you now since you Pervs. wel-cum his and your kind with open arms and other open things besides your small minds.
Posted by on October 24, 2007 02:48 PM"You seem to support the puppet in the White House"
We have three branches of government so of course that would be referring to the puppet controlled by the Democrat controlled house and senate?
Posted by on October 24, 2007 03:31 PMScience Guy,
Thanks for the post about the article. Looks kind of hopeless.

Not really. I loathe puppets and Cheney "The Puppet Master", but I really hate liberals and all left wingers even more. They hijacked my Democratic party over 35 years ago. Slick Willie and Hillary were the last straw.
I never thought we could find somebody worse for president than Tricky Dicky or the Gipper but after Bill and Hillary's second term I said see you later losers and became an Independent and never looked back. Something I shoud have done in the 1980's.
I am not voting for anyone for president in '08
jay,
What,
Why dont wejJust give up?
Your sorry ramblings are getting waayyy old.
Try thinking things through before you hit that post button pal,
We'd all appreciate it.

Yet another nonsensical mud projectile today. What's with the physical descriptions? Are you using yourself as a model of inspiration, or do you like to sit around and fantasize about the people on the other end of the connection? You sound like the kind of well-adjusted and thoughtful individual that brought this nation to where it is, a true credit to modern schooling.
Posted by drew on October 25, 2007 12:16 AMYES, OF COURSE SPRAY THE POPPIES! BUT, AHEM, LETS LEAVE THE OXYCOTIN FACTORIES ALONE. I ERRR UMMMM, WELL I NEED THAT STUFF TO MAKE ME SMARTER!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by RUSH LIMPBALLS on October 25, 2007 06:58 AMWhile I don`t care much for Bill O, he hit this one when he said Bush would never go after the poppy fields in any meaningful way.
I think we tried this somewhere in Latin America. We conned the farmers into growing flowers, instead of drugs, and then no one would buy their flowers.
Oddly enough, there is a solution for both parties here.
Have them grow crops for pharmaceuticals.
Our morphine, and codeine products have to be grown somewhere, let these farmers do it.
And they can grow tobacco, which is used for bug poison. Nothing kills like nicotine. There must be something they can grow that will replace poppies and give them enough to live on.
Posted by Sharon B. on October 25, 2007 02:14 PMSpray Rush Limbaugh instead!
